IMHO, an overreaction on your part. While the Cuba Dave situation is disturbing, It can easily be interpreted that he WAS promoting prostitution in CR and other countries, via multiple web sites. This admittedly vague law relates to PROMOTING prostitution, not making prostitution itself illegal. Over 90% of the "hobbyists" in CR are ticos. Keep a low profile and you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Looking forward to my fifth trip in the last 12 months in January.

I forget the guys name (owner of Sportsman Lodge) big guy, always seems friendly but, if I were him I would be concerned. I would be proactive and try to meet with someone with some power. High ranking police, or politician. I would get some assurance that what I was doing was ok, and if not what I need to do differently to make sure I am within the law. Get his lawyer involved etc. I know he is an American and an easy target. Maybe he has already done this or has thrown some bribes around but, I sure would be covering my Ass Right now.

Governments around the world are fed up with bad reputations promulgated on the Internet. Costa Rica is a leader in this effort to stop the country from caring this reputation. If I was at all associated with a web site or publication that just discussed prostitution in Costa Rica I would not step foot in the country. I can't testify to this but I don't remember Cuba Dave referring to any girl as a prostitute. He may have made references to 'a friendly girl' but again I am not sure. And actually, he never spoke about any girl in a disparaging way. He did make 'the scene' sound attractive but hardly in any way as a promoter for self interest. In the end, the Costa Rican law is vague and dangerous. Surely the places like Sportsman's and the Del Rey would be more fruitful targets for government zealots than poor old Dave. Just wait. Some nut in the government will go after these place regardless of how much revenue they are professed to generate. Just takes one do gooder nut. Did you ever wonder just who is reading this?

This is my first trip in CR. This time also mark my first year as a monger. I started in DR last year in August 2014, then followed with Medellin in October 2014, Cartagena, Barranquilla, and Santa Marta in December 2014, Medellin and Barranquilla again in May 2015 and now CR in August 2015. This has been a truly fantastic year! As always my reports are long so I warn you guys to stop reading if you don't like reading and skip it all.

Indeed one of the best FR's I have read till date on ISG, reading your report forces the other person to visualize how it must have been in SJ and indeed encourages to visit SJ / CR.

However my curiosity is peaked. I recently made my first trip to Costa Rica two months ago. I met a stone fox of a black woman (tall model type) at the the El Rey. I invited her back to the Sportsman Lodge. She refused to go. My intuition says that this was La Negra although the odds are obviously she wasn't. Also I met another woman at El Rey who would not go back to Sportsmans. I know that Sportmans Lodge has some kind of blacklist. Were the women refusing to go to the Sportmans Lodge because of the blacklist or because of time considerations? Any Costa Rica regulars willing to comment?

Not a regular but I'm here for the first time. My driver told me Sportsman's required all the ladies on site to have an ID and you can go to the management if you have any problems. If you get robbed the staff knows their info to report it to police. Troublemakers get banned from the premises.

With all this shit going on about CR I have no interest on planning my visit end of this month in CR. This would have been my first trip to CR just to check out a new playground and get the lay of the land like they say. With all the fun Colombians girls in Medellin who make love with you like a long lost boyfriend, and I may add after spending a few weeks in Cuba back in August with all their restrictions, viva Colombia!

Hobbiest, he only picked up one of the three girls, La Negra, from the Del Rey. La Negra invited a pair of cousins to go to his house. The girl who's accusing him is not La Negra, but one of the cousins. He appears to have just spent one or two nights in jail, although he can't leave Costa Rica. If you read and believe earlier press reports, his accuser originally said he raped her when she refused to have sex for money. Now she's saying she was reluctantly persuaded to have sex for money. Anyway, given her age, it sounds like the police didn't have much of a choice. They have dropped charges of sexual assault and of contacting the acccuser for sex through the internet.

What is worrisome, if the Tico Times article that Cerebro posted is true, is that La Negra, the woman that Ehsan met at Del Rey, is [CodeWord902]. While he's not being prosecuted for having sex with her, it's not good if the Del Rey was letting [CodeWord902] hookers slip into the establishment.

As to Cuba Dave, there are only a handful of posters here that have to worry about the new law. Someone may have already posted this, but it reads.

Any person who promotes or establishes programs, campaigns or advertisements through any medium on a national or international level to project the country as an accessible destination for commercial sexual exploitation or prostitution of people of any gender or age shall be punished with imprisonment of four to eight years.

Does that make Cuba Dave's incarceration right? Hell no. By the standards of my country, it's a violation of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. And it's a travesty that he's locked up over a law no one knew anything about. But that doesn't change the fact that anyone who's not running tours , not running a web site, etc., will not be prosecuted under this law.

Gents get drugged and robbed all the time in Thailand, so he's lucky he didn't lose all his bling and money. He could have also been jumped by the girl's boyfriend (s) and paid with his life. I am really sorry but I have to respectfully disagree. Did you even read the full story? The very place you are saying that you will "stick to" is where he picked these girls up. This could have been you mi amigo just as easily as him. You can't blame this guy for not wanting to stay at HDR.

Now this guy is sitting in one of the fiercest prisons in the world and you say he got what he deserved? Yes. I do agree that sex with minors is unacceptable but if you or anyone else sees a hot chick at the HDR you probably assume they are old enough to work there. When was the last time you asked for ID and even at that what's to say they don't have FAKE IDs. This whole country is on a witch hunt and I would stay away until it sorts itself out. If not, be very careful as you may get what CR deems that you deserve.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting the links Cerebro. If the girl's allegations are true, maybe he deserves to go to prison. If Costa Rican law actually allows him to buy off the victim and have charges dropped, he may be lucky this happened in Costa Rica instead of at his home in California. My impression is that the judicial system in Costa Rica is reasonably good, at least by Latin American standards. If there's nothing on his security camera, there's no DNA evidence, and it's just his word against a hooker and her friends, I bet he gets off. Also, it sounds like only one of the three girls is accusing him, and the prosecutors have already dropped two of the original charges.

Response to arrest of Ehsan, quotes wasn't working.

Having been to CR plenty, here are my thoughts.

Fool wanted to impress Hookers with his money and pretend that they found him attractive.

Fool was targeted by Hookers for what is becoming a common extortion scam in CR for young girls to claim against older men.

Fool is now out of tons of cash and his reputation destroyed.

Fool should have paid for a $100.00 room at the hotel where the one legit hooker worked, and not gone after her friends outside the hotel.

Leave the Rolex at home, leave your ego at the entrance, and have a good time.

When the girls ask what you do for a living, think Retired Teacher, Bartender, mow lawns for a living not I'm a loaded idiot Gringo.

I do not recommend street walkers in San Jose, many are trannies and very violent. You will get in trouble. Besides the casas are real cheap. Like zona two. So you will not pay much and be safer.

Totally agree, street walkers are like Russian Roulette. With a semi auto.

The Casa's are so cheap, that street walkers are irrational.

Casas have a fixed address, probably a business license, and an owner and manager that can be held to account by the PD.
