Speaking for myself, I am going to CR for the National Theatre, the volcanos, zip lining, the gold and jade museums and the food and culture. Costa Rica is a beautiful place and I can't wait to enjoy all it has to offer.

Those are certainly all of the reasons for why I've visited Costa Rica. And there's still more to see. Hehehe!

The food is well below average. The fruit is good (I consider avocados in that category) and the coffee is very good. Not too much else is noteworthy.

Well below average, they can screw up an omelet, remember in CR they do not refrigerate eggs. And here's how they bar be 4 hs one slab with one Firestone Tire (which are made in SJ as we all know). After 4 hs they throw out the slab and decide the tire is probably more chewable. Forget CR meat unless you have a bite like a shark--it's not corn fed, only pasture. I always say "stick with the fish". Their ceviche and seafood soup is outstanding and I can live on that. And the rest of the fish is also generally super fresh and done just right depending on where and certainly fresher then what you get at home. Coffee is world class--top 3; a lot of fruits and veggies same category, pineapples to die for, so fresh they smell up a room. Next time you go to the grocery in the US or CAN, look at the label on the pinas--almost always CR or Honduras. Avocados you say? Yum they are good except almost all, 95%, are imported into CR. 80% of the imports are from Mexico as per the latest data in the veggie trade barrier / import war. CR doesn't currently do avocados well. Blaming recent year or three climate, disease, bugs, etc. And the Ticos are bitching, rightfully, that they can't afford them at the current price. But you will see incredible produce at those farmer's markets, every town more then 4,000 has one usually on a Sat or Sunday. Let her negotiate and make the buy, stay far away, and you'll come home with twice as much.

Do you think the government would lose a lot of money if they change the prostitution law? San Jose would be so different after all these years. Think about all the rich Chinese go there. Just because one dumb American go there and fucked up doesn't mean they would change the law. So Costa Rica is still good for me.

Let me clarify as I was a little unclear in my original post. I am NOT interested in strip clubs anywhere in the world. The intent of my original post was to identify a couple places where high-end ladies hang out. Like the ones who ask for $200/ HR. Usd and are worth it. That may not exist in SJO. In my mind I picture a place that has a half dozen ladies who are undoubtebly 10's and the place I picture charges 6-7 dollars for a beer. I understand and can manuver thru the DEN that I see described in many threads but thought it would be a nice break.

BTW. Please don't get the impression I am some idiot monger with his nose up in the air or some holier than thou guy. I am not. I just want a nice little quiet place to escape the agressive ladies at HDR / KL.

Help? Am I high? See'Mon. DH. You got to have some insights on this.

Such a place does not exist. Good looking + unaggressive = SL or Z2 but you will not be surrounded by 9s. You may find a 9 (I don't believe in 10s) or 2 in the process, and will see few 5s. Prices are fixed at Z2 and beers will not be $6 or $7 or whatever you said, and only a nose picker would pay more than $100 for an hour with the best looking chica in SL (or anywhere else in town). Quality and price are virtually unrelated throughout Central and South America. In Europe you do find some correlation.

Malibu is not a strip club; it's just that Theo hires bartenders who seem to have some trouble keeping their clothes on throughout an entire shift. Works for me.

Do all the hotels in CR have the girls check in their ID's? The reason why I'm asking is because I met a girl on a dating site and didn't want to make a bad impression by taking her to the hotel and they make it seem like she is a working girl. I'm staying at the La Amistad and wondered if it was one of those that could be known its activity, if you know what I mean, or as a regular hotel that has people of types staying there. I'm not too familiar with the landscape, I've been to CR before but kinda hung around a specific area. I plan to explore more but for right now I'm seeking some advice. All info is greatly appreciated.

I'd describe La Amistad as more of a "regular" hotel that happens to attract a lot of mongers (for a number of good reasons) in addition to "regular" tourists. Your lady friend could certainly be taken for a working girl by some guests and even management (NBD) because it is hardly uncommon for guys staying at La Amistad to bring working girls back to their rooms, but you are staying at a nice hotel with great food that attracts a reasonably diverse clientele. No reason for any bad impressions, IMHO. Like any decent hotel in San Jose, IDs will at least be checked.

The one thing I would be interested in knowing would be places that are a notch or two on the higher end of things....I am interested in the cream of the crop in SJO.

If by "cream of the crop" you mean "the most attractive women in one place", then the Del Rey during the evening would be the #1 choice.

Add IDEM to Dickhead's list. It's similar to Zona II, and usually has a couple of hotties around.

If you're interested in strip clubs that aren't ripoffs, you might check out Le Grillon, Pantera Rose or D'Pelufo's, in addition to Alcazar.
