Dude, just stay at the Del Rey or the Sleep Inn. That's ground zero. You won't regret it. Any slight price premium is more than made up for by the convenience of being at the center of the action. See my post from a few weeks ago. Decent hotel rooms at HDR start at $90, and Sleep Inn probably for slightly less. Its not like you are emptying your bank account at the Hilton. Guarantee companion friendly. And you'll never need a taxi except to go to and from the airport. Those little $3-4 dollar taxi rides add up to the point where it doesn't make sense to stay anywhere else.

Costa Rica is a beautiful country and San Jose is a great city with so much to offer. Safe to boot!! Although I like going to HDR to socialize and sometimes take back to my room, I am disappointed that it's so mechanical. Meaning, it's cookie cutter sex. Pension 360 ripoff earlier this month.

I speak of the two story tan building in Paseo Colon a few blocks in behind the Toyota dealership. And for anyone who'the defend the place claiming they've had no bad experiences there, let me say that I could have said the same thing up until my latest experience. It's entirely up to you if you want to patronize them. I won't again and here's why.

I chose a girl Tatianna after she agreed to two extras for a 10 mil colones combined up charge, but when we got to the room the price had doubled. I called the deal off and she called down the stairs for one of the managers, Pupys. I'm BTW very familiar with both managers, Pupys and Chino. They had seen my face for years and I had spent a lot of cash there. Anyway the girl demanded a 5 mil payment because in the room before things went sour I momentarily saw her stripped down to her panties. Yes, I'm serious. LOL To quote Pupys, "because you saw her naked. ".

And management supported her in the nonsense. Both Pupys and Chino were in house. I tried to reason with both but there was no communication. They just recited over and over a canned response to anything I said, "cinco mil for the lady" even though both can handle a good amount of English. Had it been some real money I might have refused to pay and headed for the door, but as it was I just gave up the 5 mil and told them I would not be back.

Also while on vacation I uploaded a report about this in Spanish to the main Tico forum, "the foro" as it is often called by gringos. The report was concise, to the point, contained appropriate language, and there is no way it could have violated any forum rules. Yet two hours later it was deleted and my username was permanently banned. I was not at all surprised because I knew in advance that Pupys is an administrator and constant poster in the adult section of that forum. As for taxis they are cheap. You have to act like you're not a newbie. Look for the Maria which is the meter. If you don't see it ask. Where is the Maria. That will put you on the straight and narrow. Then know your exchange rate and pay cabs in colones. You don't have to tip but I usually do. I mean wtf. I'm an american gringo and they dig it. For me it's cool to be polite. I'm not a cheapskate when I'm down there. But rest assured you are still a gringo. The older cab drivers are straight with you. The younger cab drivers like to give you a tour of the city. Get a map from this site and know where you are going before you go there. But if you stay at Sleep Inn everything is within walking distance. Don't underestimate the ability to speak espanol.

Dude. It sounds like you have some cash. As do I whenever I go down there for some nookie. Sleep Inn is worth the money for hotel accommodations. Plus it is even connected to the Del Rey which everyone recommends but if you want to get the best value for your money learn to speak espanol. The best place for nookie for the inexperienced monger is zona 2. They usually have a good selection of babes and just act like you know the deal. Which is usually what they charge and what you have to pay for extras eg bbj and swallow etc.
