This is an interesting phenomenon I've noticed as well. They go to the Rey specifically to panhandle. They ask for 5k colones, figuring enough stupid gringos will give them money so they won't have to actually fuck anyone for money.

When you give these girls money for nothing, you reinforce their assumption that all gringos are stupid and gullible.

That's one of the reasons I don't go there-You'll learn-or maybe not-Place is now nothin' but a den of thieves

On a scale of 1-10, I'd rate the San Jose streetwalker scene a -2

You don't want a streetwalker, unless they are trouble or under-aged they can go to any bar and show their wares and do their business. So I wouldn't even think about it-

90% crooks? LOL. There are a lot more honest taxis than there are scumbag ones. The guys who hang outside of Colonial Casino and Del Rey are not what the majority of taxi drivers are like in Costa Rica.

The only meter cab you'll find directly outside of the airport are the official airport taxis, the other guys hanging around are piratas with normal cars. To get a regular red taxi with a meter you'd have to go out to the road. Cheapest way for you would be to talk to the pirata guys outside and indeed 25 is a normal price for them.

The guy ran the meter to the airport and charged me 38. 00. Another guy took me from 13th to the Airport bus stop on 14th and 2nd and purposely turned down another street where traffic was one lane due to road construction and backed up-other street was clear sailin'. Guy took us from DELREY (OFFICIAL CAB) to El pueblo 6, 000 colonies.guy way back 2, 000-I know about pirate cabs-the official ones are like I said 90% crooks. They were all OFFICIAL CABS.

The only meter cab you'll find directly outside of the airport are the official airport taxis, the other guys hanging around are piratas with normal cars. To get a regular red taxi with a meter you'd have to go out to the road. Cheapest way for you would be to talk to the pirata guys outside and indeed 25 is a normal price for them.

$15 for the pirates, all day long, take the elevator across the street in the parking lot, go to departure level. May take a few no's, but within 5 minutes you'll be on the way.

They were offering a new credit card and throwing in 40, 000 frequent flyer miles for signing up. They only fly to San Jose in Central America. But its a free flight.

One time at the Del Rey this girl walked up to me and asked me for a drink, I said no. Then she asked me for $10! Straight up, as if I was a walking ATM! I said fuck no.

Anyway, how do you handle these situations? Sometimes no doesn't send them on their way.

Haven't been to San Jose in 5 years, planning to go in a few months. Are there any streetwalker areas. Where are they, how much do they charge, and is it safe.

The area around the Coca Cola Bus Terminal had a few clubs / brothels. Locals only.

My advice for you would be to go off the beaten path into the smaller massage places. There are several of them.

Whatever you do don't go into one of these places with another gringo. It will ruin your negotiating power.

Prices were roughly $35/40. I wouldn't pay anymore. Sessions were boring to decent but nothing amazing. Quailty of chicas was below average compared to other destinations that charge the same price.

Can someone please tell me how much should I expect to pay for cab from SJO airport to LaAmistad hotel. Also I will land pretty late in the evening, Is it safe to cab or arrange for hotel pickup event though it might be expensive? Please let me know.

Cab fares vary because of the time of day, traffic and the route the taxista take. Normally it's going to run you $25. $35.

For ISG brothers I give a $5 discount on $35 pickups, so it's $30. Dropoff to SJO from San Jose are $30. $5 discount for a total of $25.

I always have cold beer for my guys when they arrived, sim cards, Free cell phones to use and we can even stop at Walmart to get supplies if they need it.

All month of June I have had a "Let Her Ride!" for free special, where I will pick up your favorita in San Jose, Heredia or Alejuela to meet you at the airport. You can not get this service from a regular taxista. Also, Gringo raise, gringo spoken. Come on down. What are you waiting for?

SJO to almost all downtown hotels are about $20-$30 depending on the cab driver. It is safe to use a cab. Just ask to put the meter on (ponga la maria, por favor) or negotiate a flat fee before you get on the cab. Usually pickup service charges extra $5 or so, but gringo operated service is an option if you want to arrange a ride prior to your arrival.
