My time is coming to an end. I cut my nicaragua portion of my trip due to some difficulties and a nasty cold.

I haven't been partying for a few days already but as usual I have some opinions that I would like to share.

Hotels -

El Castillo has been a blessing for me. This is probably one of the coolest hotels I've stayed at. The staff is SUPER cool and the hotel policies are the most liberal than any other hotel I've dealt with. The only reason I would not stay here is if they put me in the two rooms on the lobby floor. There isn't enough circulation in those rooms and there are no windows.

The entire hotel is filled with mongers and I've had alot of fun hanging out with some of the guys. Girls are waiting for you at the hotel bar!

* You must get your hotel siutation straightened out prior to arriving. If you don't you chance taking whatever is left paying a premium or staying in a shithole hotel. There are very few in between options here. Your mongering WILL suffer.

If you stay for a long time chances are some local expats can set you up in an apartment but that takes a little time. I never went to see one but was offered a look by an expat that I befriended.

WEATHER-

I really blew it. I sweat my ass off in central america but san jose is at 3/4 K feet. I had no idea and I packed the wrong clothes. What I really needed is a jeans jacket and some warmer sleeping clothes. The first few days were cold enough to wear a sweatshirt in the morning. Bottom line is I fucked up and thats how I got sick.

Pack like you would for medellin. You can get hit with anything here.

GIRLS

What can I say. I didn't expect much and thats what I got. My favorite spots were the new york bar (half block from del rey) and a few of the MPS. I did find some local haunts as well.

NY BAR-(freelance bar) You can pull chicas out of here for $30 an hour. DO NOT offer more. These are the girls that cant make it at the Del Ray. Some are very drunk or a little bit chopped up but thats what you get here with budget offerings.

MPS- I really liked relax. I went to a few others but there wasnt the greatest talent in them. I could screw just about anything but for $30 a half hour with bbbj I could do better somewhere else. Normal sessions run between 10 to 12 K then add a tip for extras. Alot of times they wont let you slide with extras for less than 5k ($10). I was expecting a san jose gringo hustle so I just went with it. A few times I didnt settle a price before and I gave her the equivelent of $6. I think they are used to getting more.

LOCAL HAUNTS-

If you go to avenida 6 and calle 3 close to the coca cola bus terminal you will see a few places side by side down the street by the corner. They are little dive bars that lead back to rooms and hotels/pensiones with girls standing outside. Pensiones prices are 7k but some of the bar/rooms places were 10k and 12k(for gringos!). Only one in three girls in three different places would do bbbj for a tip. I think these are high traffic girls who earn change no matter what.
I was not cool for being there like in other countries. Some locals were not amused but I did my thing regardless....low end sleaze better than del ray rip offs but not up to par with SA countries.

VIPS and the other bar next door a block from hotel dunn inn/Clarion are good low end late night options for the same prices. Girls vary greatly in looks.

STRIP BARS-

Went to a few dives payed non dive prices for drinks posted on the wall...left very quickly and never returned to the circuit.

As far as girls go thats it. You can find the mp's just by walking around. The other guys can turn you onto them as well. It very easy to get a hang of it after a few days. If you find "relax" you can find eros next door and idem across the street..

FOOD :

Stay away from the gringo trendy joints. These assholes charge more for an entree than in new york city. Hotel Havanna is another rip off joint with NY prices for drinks and $55 half hour sessions. I hate when gringos bring the bullshit with them...it screws it all up.

CR isn't cheap by far. For what I spend here I could do the same in buenos aires cheaper in lima or medellin. I am in no rush to come back but I wanted to see it for myself. If you aren't a bar crawler there is not much to do after 7pm. Central america is depressing compared to SA. San Jose was my last stop in CA. I will continue to go further south.

I also wanted to mention that the term MP'S is a very misleading term for san jose. These places are straight up chongos/brothels. The only place that even offered a massage was new fantasy. That kept me away from CR for a while.

Yes, there are "model types" in SJO, but if your looking for incredible sexo and a GFE, you may want to adjust your expectations. My experience from years of mongering have been mixed on the "super model" rent-a-date, they make great arm candy, but 9 out of 10 times they are poor performers in la cama. Yes, there are several "regular bars" in SJO: El Pueblo, Jazz Club, Castro's, and several in Escazu, but if you don't speak espaniol your chances are flaca e nada and flaca is walking out the door. Best bet is enjoy Key Largo, where every girl is on the program, and of course the Blue Marlin. Look for the girls in the back bar at KL, their are a few part-time puta's who like to hide back there, are super cute and selective on who they leave with. Also, look for the cute shy ones in the BM, they are also part time puta's that will rock your world. Stay away from the english speakers, they are usually hard core and will leave you disappointed.

What I always enjoyed doing is finding an attractive, sweet chica and take her out of the "gulch" for dinner and dancing on Saturday (I call Saturdays my "date night"), they appreciate being treated like a normal girl and will reciprocate with a lot of affection. are, what i like to refer to, as "one hit wonders" in that they come to san jose on "sex trips" in which they spend, usually, a week or less, and very rarely, if at all, leave the "confines" of gringo gulch! many of them look at the mps as "second rate" and don't care or bother with them!

this is for the expats who live in or near san jose(many retired and living on ss and, possibly, a pension!) and, in many case, don't have "money to burn" who rely on the mps to "scratch the itch"! as $60+ plus the cost of a st room would be a financial burden!

as i predicted in my report of april 4th:

"the "soft targets, the smaller p4p bars and the mps are the most vunerable and, i would imagine, if it happens at all, it will start in sj"

and

"simple equation, of the new police strategy, even if the sex trade is not made illegal, partly or in full, outright:

police raids = patrons become uncomfortable = a reluctance/refusal to patronize = closure!

i hope i'm wrong!"

Whatever you do make sure your hotel situation is straightened out before you come down. There is alot of bullshit with the hotels and bringing back chicas.

If you are on a budget of $45/60 I highly recommend hotel el castillo (list section). This is probably one of the very few places in san jose that is affordable and down with the program(minus the dumps).

IMHO forget about all the US bullshit and the american chains. You will most likely get screwed in some way.

I have alot to say but I am on a roll and will report once I gather more info.

* You need to buy a senior membership to get the really good info. If your trip means that much to you pay the $19.95 to jackson.

I have stayed at the Nuevo Johnson Hotel for years. Used to be about $ 10.00 Last time there - six months ago it had gone to $ 12.00. See Johan the manager - he should let you in for $ 12.00.

I have always found the area perfectly safe...if you are careful.

As an alternative you might check out the Royal Dutch Hotel and Casino about 5 blocks up the street ( 2nd Ave.). Their rooms go for about $ 60-65.00...but sometimes the night manager (a guy....don't bother talking to the girls during the daytime) will let you in for $ 40.00 for cash.
