Posts: 29What ever happened to "The Green Door" in SJ?
Back in 1999 there was an old converted mansion in San Jose turned into a fun palace. Place was called "The Green Door" and run by some gringos. Anyone know what became of this place? Had a few nice group hot tub adventures there.

Listen, I know one or two dollars is not much money, but I will not allow myself to be taken advantage of. Whats so hard about paying what it costs? Just round up to the nearest 100 and that's the "tip".

Posts: 3359You are off by about 300 years; the quote is from Thomas Tusser. Mark Twain lost several fortunes speculating foolishly in the stock market and other silly ventures.

I still think it was Mark Twain who said it, and then Bernie Madoff put it into practice......in a BIG way.
Poor Bernie - all that money and he won't get to spend it now.

That is about three times what it should be for that short ride in San Jose.
Like the women who want and demand 'Cien" - just smile and say "NO"- same with a taxi driver - don't overpay or they will get used to it and then demand that much from their next fare.
The price of gasoline is high....but one does not need to pay 2-3 times what you should be paying.
Unless you are just a real "sport"......and another name for that kind of a guy is - Fool.

Posts: 59Soon it will be 3,000 colones to the Castillo or Sportsman.
Guys its approximately 300-400 colones to Barrio Ammon from the Del Rey.
Most of the taxi drivers that cruise the Del Rey at night are scam artists and do not deserve a "tip".
All you have to do is make certain they turn the meter on, if not get out. Also make sure you flag down a moving taxi and NEVER one that is parked outside the Del Rey. Your lady in tow might even get a little wet over your new found assertiveness!!

Posts: 111You got my interest. What is the deal with Calle 6? Sws? Or something else? And is it safe at night? Or is this a day activity?

Posts: 362How much to pay for a taxi from the Del Rey Hotel to the Sportsmans Lodge ???
A taxi ride from say the Hotel Del Rey to the Sportsmans Lodge ( which is approx. 7-8 blocks) should not run you any more than about $ 2.00. That would convert to approx. 1,000 colones.
Your best bet will be to ask the taxi driver to turn on and run his meter - called the Maria in Spanish - pronounced exactly like the womans name.
I believe it will be easier for you to use colones in San Jose for small fees like taxi's and such - than dollars. And it will perhaps be cheaper too, as some people in CR will not readily be able to do the money conversion - as quickly as you would be able to do.
