No. Prostitution is legal in CR. What's illegal is profiting off of somebody else engaging in prostitution. So brothels, pimps, etc. , are illegal. Pensiones get around it by 'renting' rooms to 'independent' workers.

I responded to an online TG escort ad by WhatsApp and she / he asked me where I lived and I told her.

After she quoted a ridiculously high price and when I said I couldn't afford that much she went ape shit calling me a dirty old bastard and said she is going to give all my personal details to police as prostitution is illegal here she said.

San Jose is still no where more than 25% of its pre covid days. Things were really dismal in HDR and Taormina. SL was quite slow as well, Castillo was the only surprising hold out with an occasional good looking lady. Most ask for 100 bucks but are not worth 50 in my eyes.

Yeah I was planning a trip to Thailand my coworker goes all the time. But my homeboy is coming from the US so Costa Rica is the easiest meet up for us. If you had your choice would you go to Jaco or would you go back to HDR / Taormina.

I travelled to Costa Rica 4 to 5 times from 2014 to 2016 and would say Jaco is preferable to HDR and the gulch. I found there to be more women around the Cocal and neighboring bars, plus there was more to do during the day and afternoon (beach, tours, surfing, boating, etc.). I do recall it being more expensive for lodging, food, and girls, but worth it in my opinion. Not quite as point and click as the HDR, but laid back.

I go to all those places and have never, ever paid in USD in my life. In fact I have never paid for so much as a Tic Tac in USD in Costa Rica or anywhere else in LatAm except of course Ecuador and Panamá. I absolutely promise you that mentioning dollars, talking about dollars, showing dollars, and thinking in dollars is all very counterproductive. Nor have I ever paid $100 or its equivalent in colones, although it's getting pretty close. I'm still paying 40 or 50 mil in the above mentioned venues. I do speak fluent Spanish and that does make a difference.

You certainly can but it marks you as a rookie and you will get worse deals. Always and everywhere, monger in local currency. Maybe Cuba is an exception or something, but not Costa Rica.
