First post over on this board. For those who have been to both Tijuana and Medellin, would you provide a quick pros and cons of each, things you preferred over the other. For context I am new to the hobby with a few CR trips under my belt, looking to explore more. Thanks for any input.

While I have researched Medellin a bit I have not been comparted to Tijuana where I have been many times. I would say one of the huge differences is comfort as a gringo. Tijuana has multiple bars in one very small area that you can roam between and when your in the bar you can feel completely comfortable. You don't need to be looking over your shoulder for safety reasons, you don't need to worry about someone drugging your drink. (yes you don't want to be totally unaware of your surroundings) I am just saying I believe Tijuana is much safer.

You can come as a solo and feel very comfortable. From my research and YouTubers talking about Medellin I have not gotten that feedback. Luke who's posts on YouTube has been to both and this is what I remember his posts describing as well.

If you speak Spanish very comfortably and you don't look like a gringo. Then. Maybe you would feel at much more ease in Columbia but I think Tijuana wins hands down for the better of the two. I have been to CR as well and enjoyed some "fun time", but while the girls were beautiful, it was not anything compared to the vibe at HongKong and Zona Norte / Tijuana red light district.

Just show up at the pedestrian crossing with your aging passport. If you tell them you're staying just one day, they'll probably wave you through without even filling out an FMM.

Or, you can get an expedited passport renewal. (Mine took 3 days.) You'll need to somehow document that your travel date is coming up soon, so check out the state department's website.
