Ready Lanes DO NOT Save You Time

When I drive, I find that Ready Lanes are sometimes a few minutes faster, but nowhere near "about half". That's because they don't enforce the Ready Lane requirement for an RFI passport.

If you're talking about walking, I have no idea.

Global Entry is the way to go, for sure. My last trip I walked past a line longer than any I've ever seen. Facebook posts later that day pegged the wait in the General line at four hours! I know there are scams and "services" to let you skip the line by paying people off, or you could catch a bus that drives out to Otay and back. Far better to just get Global Entry and skip all the lines legally.

    Global Entry is awesome

Looks like from midnight on Thursday 22nd April all US citizens, tourists or non essential visitors are allowed to enter Tijuana. (no dentist appointment needed). But Mexican citizens are not allowed to enter the US with a non essential visit until May 21st.

I will be there Friday too, as I have a real dentist appointment on Saturday morning. Not the first time, can DM me, I hope admin got my membership.

Only Chihuahua is excluded because restriction now applies only to states with high coronavirus risk.

    Published on Tuesday, April 20,2021.

Starting Thursday, people in the United States will be permitted to enter Mexico for nonessential purposes via land crossings in all but one of the country's six northern border states.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) said on Twitter that the ban on nonessential land travel from the United States to Mexico will remain in place until 11:59 pm On May 21 but only in border states that are high-risk orange or maximum-risk red on the federal government's coronavirus stoplight map.

Of the six states, Coahuila, Nuevo LEand and Tamaulipas are currently low-risk green, Baja California and Sonora are medium-risk yellow and Chihuahua is orange.

As of 12:00 am Thursday, when the current restrictions expire, people will be free to enter Mexico from the United States via crossings in all border states except Chihuahua at least until an updated stoplight map takes effect next Monday and could result in changes to the border states' colors on the map.

Meanwhile, the United States Department of Homeland Security has extended its restrictions on nonessential land travel from Mexico until 11:59 pm On May 21.

"The restriction suspends the entry into the United States via land border, ferry crossing, rail, or through coastal ports of entry from Canada and / or Mexico, as immigrants or nonimmigrants for any travel that is not deemed essential," says a statement issued by USA Customs and Border Protection on Monday.

The SRE said that Mexico and the United States are in talks to ease cross-border travel restrictions depending on coronavirus infection rates on both sides of the border.

Some Twitter users expressed anger that people in the United States will largely be able to cross into Mexico for nonessential purposes while Mexicans won't be able to do the same in the opposite direction.

"Why can American citizens freely enter and leave our country without any restriction? Are they immune to Covid? Since the pandemic started, there have been no restrictions for them, only for us, the Mexican citizens," tweeted one person, apparently referring to reports that USA Travelers haven't been stopped from entering Mexico for nonessential purposes.

The SRE also announced that the ban on nonessential travel into Mexico via the southern border would continue until May 21.

While the restrictions on nonessential travel across the northern border were introduced more than a year ago, the southern border ban only took effect a month ago.

    Racial discrimination

No racial discrimination in the US. Here the hookers discriminate against guys without enough money.

    Update

Update on this, I'm coming down to Tijuana this Thursday. Staying the night in downtown, leaving Friday. Hoping to have some fun and see what there is to offer in the Zona Norte on Thursday evening.

I'm eager to go to Tijuana but I don't have anyone to go with, and would rather not go alone. If anyone wants to meet up either before or after the pedestrian border crossing I'd appreciate getting shown around a little. I'm not squeamish about sex in the same room but I can go off and do my own thing as well. I'll buy you some drinks or whatever's worth your time, and I can tell some Hollywood stories and stuff like that too. I'm in my 20's, pretty well traveled and sensible.

Getting ready for the next trip to Tijuana, but getting intimidated by the border wait times (showing 2:15 hrs wait at 4:48 pm today). https://bwt.cbp.gov/details/09250401/PED Note this has 2 tabs (General and Ready).

While checking the CBP web site, I found the following link https://www.cbp.gov/travel/clearing-cbp/ready-lanes where it states if you have a passport card, you can use Ready Lanes. Can someone verify if that is valid and there are Ready Lanes for pedestrians that can be used by passport card holders on PedEast?
There are no more Ready Lanes at the pedestrian crossing in San Ysidro. Virtually all passports now have the RFID chip, and all passport cards have them. I think that may be why they did away with the lanes. The only Ready lanes existent are vehicle lanes.

That industry's experiences into (and now emerging out of) Covid is pure 'old regular supply and demand.

When the pandemic and shutdowns hit the economy in Spring 2020 auto rental reservations suddenly tanked.

At that exact same time the used auto market got super hot with much more demand for personal vehicles to get folks around with bus, rail and air traffic suddenly becoming less available and less desirable.

So auto rental agencies sold off many used vehicles at top dollar. They couldn't rent them.

Rental agencies are not scared of having low inventories of cars. Too much vehicle stock could be a much bigger problem.

Low inventories will initially turn into sky-high rental rates if demand bounces back strong.

Where do you get "Reverse supply and demand" from?

    Backwards thinking?
Wonder if Uber fares in USA San Diego have also gone up since more travelers may be using them now due to sky high rental car rates?

I did not rent a car last Nov. When I stayed in Imperial Beach. I used Ubers within San Diego and to the border.

I have to agree with TomJ. There haven't been "Ready Lanes" for at least a few years.

That's wonderful; have you walked across lately? I crossed last Thursday; ready lane does not exist. If you want to cross in a timely manner, get GE or Sentri.
