    Goodbye Compass. Hello pronto!

Starting September 1, MTS and NCTD riders can use the new regional fare system, pronto. Pronto will replace the Compass Card and Cloud systems entirely, offering riders a better payment experience when choosing transit.

Nobody knows where the money goes after it leaves your hand, and that's not important. What is important is that when the border restrictions were in place nobody was supposed to be crossing into Mexico. Chasing girls isn't a valid reason, and doctor appointments were a marginal excuse. But the Mexicans, being a pragmatic bunch, said hey, we'll let you in but you got to buy the 180 day FMM. Which seems like a great compromise to me. It could be worse. They could stop you at the border and send you back.

Now that Mexico has lifted its border restrictions I think we'll see the incidence of 180-day FMM demands for short visits drop off sharply.

Smuggling? 6,000 lbs meth just got caught in Otay mesa

Jackie worries way too much. How would anyone smuggle anything in my little car? How will they pick up the shipments not knowing when and where I will go back to US?

The cartels have developed ways and resources to smuggle thousands pounds of drugs per shipment. CBP just seized a semi trailer loaded with 3,000 Kilos of meth and Fentanyl crossing Otay Mesa, retail price is about $18 mil. Too bad they did not stake out, nab the guys who received the shipment Otay and trace them to the top distributors in the US and beat the living shit out of them.

If smuggling is easy, perhaps Jackie should smuggle a few hot HK chicas and keep them in his basement for hot entertainment every night to replace his worn out rubber dolls hehe.

The guys working in Refracc are good mechanics who can diagnose difficult mechanical problems correctly and fix them cheaply without all the bullshit and sabotages by the Mexican mechanics in OC. Wingman Jack had his car squirting oil in Pepe's parking. He had it towed to his trusted mechanics De LEO near hotel Ticuan and stayed over night. It was not a difficult problem,. He could have HK's people or Pepe's parking attendants call in mechanics to fix it quickly on the spot.

If you have any problem with the exhaust, go to Rex Muffler on Aqua Caliente in Centro. It's a large chain with good mech and warranty. An OC shop caused a leak in my exhaust. Went back a few times they could not fix it. Rex repaired it twice and fixed the problem for $15.

Newer cars with complex electronic sensors and systems like MBZ, BMW, Lexus ect should be trusted strictly to cut-throat dealers. Very few independent shops have equipment and skills to deal with them. Just don't risk letting them cause even bigger problems. But replacing parts, common mechanical problems and body work can be done quickly and cheaply in Tijuana while you spend time flirting with hot girls in bars and pumping them in beds hehe. My neighbors go crazy with their car problems but I am all relaxed thanks to Tijuana mechanics.

Federal officials make meth bust — one of largest in USA History — at Otay Mesa border crossing.

Bundles wrapped in plastic inside a semitrailer.

Federal authorities said that discovery of this methamphetamine, discovered Thursday night in a trailer that crossed from Mexico, is one of the largest busts of the drug in USA History. Authorities also found 127 pounds of fentanyl in the trailer, at lower right. (Office of the USA Attorney for the Southern District of California).

BY ALEX RIGGINS SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE AUG. 7, 2021 12:33 PM PT.

OTAY MESA — Federal authorities made what they called one of the largest methamphetamine busts in USA History this week, finding more than 5,528 pounds of the drug inside a semitrailer that crossed from Mexico at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry in San Diego.

Agents also found more than 127 pounds of fentanyl inside the commercial truck, which had California license plates and was being driven by a Mexican citizen, authorities said.

The driver, Carlos Gerardo Symonds Saavedra, was charged Friday with two federal felony counts of importing controlled substances into the USA Each count carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life imprisonment.

"This is believed to be one of the largest methamphetamine seizures in the nation's history," officials from the office of the USA Attorney for the Southern District of California said in a news release Friday night.

Last October, authorities found about 3,000 pounds of methamphetamine in a semitrailer at the same port of entry. At the time, a USA Customs and Border Protection spokesperson said it was the second-largest bust ever, behind only a 5,000-pound bust in December 2019 in Laredo, Texas.

According to a criminal complaint filed by federal prosecutors in Symonds Saavedra's case, he drove the semitrailer through the Otay Mesa cargo entry lanes around 5:30 pm Thursday, presenting paperwork that stated he was hauling plastic parts.

A computer-generated alert system prompted customs officers to refer the truck to a secondary inspection area, where an X-ray machine detected anomalous packages mixed in with the plastic parts, according to the complaint. A drug-sniffing dog also zeroed in on the trailer, which customs officers searched, finding several suspected packages of drugs.

Officers tested the contents of one of those packages and confirmed their suspicions, according to the complaint.

But rather than unloading the trailer and detaining the driver, special agents from the Department of Homeland Security's investigative arm installed a GPS tracking device on the vehicle and allowed Symonds Saavedra to drive away, according to a statement of facts written by one of the agents.

With the Homeland Security Investigations agents following and surveilling the truck, Symonds Saavedra allegedly drove to a private commercial parking lot where he parked and placed the keys under the hood. Agents apprehended him as he walked away, and after his arrest, he allegedly admitted that he had agreed to smuggle the methamphetamine and fentanyl across the border for a payment.

It wasn't until then, after 10 pm Thursday, that the agents fully searched the trailer, discovering the huge load of methamphetamine and the fentanyl.

Well, they shipped them to Tijuana who fixed it up and got them running again albeit they have a little emission problem that would never pass smog back in the states. So the result is that Tijuana mechanics are pretty awesomely experienced in fixing cars that used to run in the USA. In the USA, we tend to keep our cars for about 5 years and get new ones to compete with our neighbors. In Tijuana, they run them until they vall apart. So they tend to fix them, and fix them, and fix them giving their mechanics a ton of experience.

Of course the only downside is that they may use your car to smuggle some contraband into the US. So it is advisable to keep an eye on the car, or use a mechanic that can be vouched for like Miguel since Solo have never posted something about getting thrown in jail for smuggling.
Also might take a catalytic converter or two. My ex father-in-law gets his cars fixed in National City since they trade work for scripts. It sounds like CaptainSolo has a good relationship with his shop and the guy should be honest enough to not ruin the relationship.

Do you have any actual evidence of this? That would have to be one of the most unreliable methods for smuggling ever devised. There are loads of shops and not all are "run" by a cartel. So, you'd have to wind up, more or less at random, in one with cartel connections. Then you'd have to have some procedure that took enough time and was complicated enough that the mechanic could hide drugs. Then you'd actually have to cross back into the US, and not actually live in Tijuana, or perhaps you're in town for a couple of weeks on vacation at an AirBnB. So there would be no reliable time frame for you to cross so that the recipients could rendezvous with your car in order to retrieve the drugs. And, if you did cross with drugs, they have no idea where you live, so they might have to follow you all the way to San Francisco. So, stop pulling our leg.

One real caveat when you bring your own parts to some mechanic is that there is NO warranty. You pay him to install. If the part is defective you get to pay him to remove the bad part, and pay him to install a replacement. And you're on the hook to return the defective part and get the replacement back to the mechanic. So, you may be saving a few bucks, you may not. It's a gamble. Everybody should know that going in.

After discussing the problems and checking the car, Miguel believed the problem was not a bent front right axle, more like rear struts. I already bought the struts planning to replace, so ask him how much to replace. He said in Spanish "Don't worry." I pressed him again, he agreed to $75, which he said was a discount. Socal shops quoted about 3.5 x as much for labor.

Left the car and went to lunch. Came back, bought him a six pack beer which he appreciated. He spent 3 hours taking things apart and replaced the struts with some help from the other mech. He wanted me to pay him directly, not to the shop, so the company probably did not get a cut of the job.

Car runs great. I was cruising in triple digit on the way back. Got the problem fixed quickly and cheaply, without waiting and having to put up with lots of hassle. Bagged 2 girls in La Zona before heading home. Car repairs have never been so painless.

Good thing about Schwab is they refund the fees. I had to get cash from an ATM in San Ysidro and all the usual ATMs charged only $3.50, but were out of cash. The ATM near the parking lot charged $8 and only gave like $400 cash.

    Rosarito

So just booked an Airbnb reservation for a condo on the playa as a regular said she wants to spend some time on the beach. If she stands me up, then I guess I'll just be in a nice condo with my dick in my hand. I know I should make alternative plans just in case, but so far she has gone through with most plans. I'm going to bring a GoPro and see if she is down with making a video and also some toys for her enjoyment. Anyone know of any reasonable taxi service from Tijuana to Rosarito? I was thinking of just trying Uber or DiDi if my phone works. Verizon has spotty coverage, but also have an AT&T phone for my business. Plan to do Puerto Nuevo for dinner. Not sure what else is in town worth doing.
