When I caught a taxi to the border last night, I asked for la linea, and was dropped at the new border. On the way there, the cabbie gave me a song and dance about his mom having cancer, and needing surgery. He asked for a donation. We stopped at the new border crossing, which was desolate at130 am. At first, I thought he was holding me hostage, until I realized where we were. I handed him 5, and he asked, again about the donation.
Its a long walk down the ramp, and spiral, till you get to the agents. I was the only one there, and breazed through. Definitely better return to my car.

Posts: 6523Tijuana officials should investigate the crime and punish just the assaulting perps. A lot of cabbie families will be going hungry in a few weeks.
Suspending the provisional license for border pick up spots is to punish the whole group, and it will cause all of them to hate the mayor.
The group may also turn against the hot-headed yellow shirts and punish them ex judicial, perhaps using the cartel's brutal ways, with torture then dismember and dissolve in acid drums?

Google translate does a decent job, for those who don't read Spanish.

Posts: 603Yellow taxis returning to the border to hassle again?
Heard a rumor from a Tijuana local that they went to a federal judge who ruled they should be allowed to return to work as usual. Strictly hearsay for now but if true don't be shocked to see 20 drivers accosting you after leaving the building entering Mexico soon.
Somehow I feel that many gringos have adjusted to alternate services such as the vans or Libre cabs by now and will boycott the Yellows.
I for one certainly hope so. They don't deserve another $5 from an unsuspecting newbie let alone a seasoned vet.

Posts: 1069What does the X want this time?
I woke up this morning to a barrage of texts from the X. The X being a BG who I ended up in a 5 year GF type relationship with that ended a couple years ago. During our time together she was great she never made it about money and then around year 5 things changed all contact seemed to revolve around she needs this and that always needing money. And that's when I just had to start ignoring her requests and move on.
So with today being her birthday I just assumed her texts were going to be something like "Where is my birthday present?
Nope when I finally took a moment to read them, Yes she was asking for a big favor and this time I was more than happy to help.
It turns out her 17 year old pregnant daughter was in Long Beach hungry lonely and with one set of clothes. Turns out while not ready to give birth anytime soon. But she was just here for a Doctors appointment and for some reason has to stay 10 days longer than anticipated.
Ok scam?, where should I send the money? No the X asked if I could go spend some time with her get her out of the house and maybe get her a few things.
Hell yes, me the cheap bastard who called 078 when a taxi tried to rip me off for a dollar. I cancelled my work for the day grabbed a pile of money and headed for Long Beach. Now before anybody starts thinking this is going to be some undr age sex story its far from that. I was on my way to help out that Nina who at age 12 would wake up before everyone in the house and prepare the best pancakes known to man. They were covered with a cinamon roll type frosting. And then serve them to me as I would wake up. Breakfast in bed one of the good memories I still hang on to.
So it was off to Long Beach I found the place ok. As I met her outside she was standing with the lady she was staying with, who was giving me the eye like I hope I can trust this old gringo with the girl I'm responsible for.
We were still able to communicate pretty good me with my basic spanish and her with a little english. I took her to a nice place for lunch down at Shoreline Village and had a great time catching up on how the rest of the family was.
Next stop was Ross in downtown Long Beach where I let her pick out a bunch of clothes and a pair of chooos. And the last stop was Superior Market for some groceries.
While we did seem to get a lot of curious looks from people, lingering waitresses trying to listen to our conversation and the guy in line at Ross who commented on my spanish, when I was somehow able to put a whole sentence together. Yes what was this old gringo doing with a young pregnant hispanic girl? Now why'all know.
It really was a great.

Girls, policias, meseros, rateros in Tijuana all look at mongers with a fair degree of awe, as their horny, rich but naive cousins, with whom they can play their little games, be it power, threats, sexy, pity etc. To extract some change out of.
City hall and the power that be in Tijuana do want to protect visitors for cultural and economic exchange, even though tourists only bring in a very small percentage of incomes compared to the maquiladoras that employs a few hundred thousand workers.
Visitors in Tijuana do have rights and leverages. Learn how to use them to your advantage to resist being squeezed and robbed.
The guys who are afraid of and complain about Tijuana policias are the same guys who are afraid of HK's meseros. Go figure. Hehe.

Posts: 657You can shear a Tourist Sheep many times; but skin him only once!
Tijuana wants tourists to visit Tijuana so it does not want tourists killed or beaten but that does not mean you get to leave with your money! Remember, tourists are like sheep and as the saying goes, you can shear a sheep many times but skin him only once! Once you beat up or kill a tourist he will never return to Tijuana and the news will spread to the other sheep in the USA! I've had encounters with the policia but once they were persuaded that I was a pobrecito due to my beater car and apparently no money for beer, they let me go with no mordida! This sheep got away without being sheared by the policia but I would have returned anyway since a $20 mordida isn't going to scare me from visiting Tijuana. I've seen a number of new looking SUV's getting pulled over by the policia while I drive by with no problems. Flashy expensive cars equals Tourist sheep with too much money! Time to shear the tourist sheep wallet of some $$.
