With more than three weeks left in the year, 2023 has set a gruesome gun violence record for the USA.

According to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which tracks incidents of gun violence across the country, there have been 38 mass killings involving guns this year, defined as shootings in which four people or more are killed, not including the shooter. The number of mass killings this year is higher than in any year since at least 2006, The Washington Post reported.

GVA altogether recorded 630 mass shootings in which at least four people were shot (killed or injured, excluding the shooter) in 2023. In the past nine years, only 2021 and 2022 had more mass shootings than this year (to date).

Here are more grim statistics from 2023, according to GVA's tally (as of Dec. 5 at the time of publication):

1,571 minors under 18 years old have been shot and killed.

39,939 gun deaths, almost two-thirds of them suicides.

34,087 gun injuries.

Mass shootings are a uniquely American phenomenon. They take place in homes, supermarkets, places of worship, movie theaters, nightclubs, workplaces, concerts, college campuses and schools.

They are also an increasingly common part of childhood in America. Children from as young as preschool age are put through active shooter drills and trained on lockdown procedures in the event of a shooting. These drills have been found to have a profound impact on children's mental health, and experts often dispute how well they protect students, especially in the absence of more stringent gun laws, more proactive safety measures and competent law enforcement responses.

Meanwhile, efforts to limit access to guns — an obvious and crucial factor in reducing mass shootings — have repeatedly been rejected by lawmakers, the vast majority of them Republicans. Legislation to enact stricter gun reform measures has failed, over and over, at both the state and federal level. And research has shown that in states with GOP-majority legislatures, mass shootings can lead to an increase in laws that loosen gun restrictions. ".

Maybe it is similar to the thinking in Mexico. When there is an auto accident. Nobody move the cars, wait until the investigation is complete.

Last time I had some issues crossing the border: PwedWest was closed and the PedEast line was many hours long, so I ended up crossing the border at Otay and Ubering to the airport (the taxi ride to the Otay crossing cost me $30, and Uber cost me $60, so this little detour cost me $90! I'm planning to leave Tijuana on Wednesday morning. How would you guys recommend I proceed? What time should I check out of HK? I think my flight leaves San Diego around 1 pm. TIA.

PedWest is back open again. If you are crossing this upcoming Wednesday the line should be very short with the chance of rain. Even without the rain if you arrive at 9 am it shouldn't be more than 20 min, when I checked the wait time today (Friday) at 9:30 am it was 5 minutes.

Pockets in Zona Rio is great. Triangulo is decent and Deja Vu has like 2 tables and so does Amnesia. Guys complain about lady drinks in HK, Amnesia I think lady drinks were like $20 or something outrageous. I'm sure they a few more spots, but Pockets is more pool hall while the others are more sports bars with tables. They have and old pool hall in Centro, but mostly older crowd and older tables. If you're bored, then always try Batbox at Paseo Chapultepec that has baseball cages and even virtual golf range with games. Bol bol is bowling, but a little further than the pool halls. I can't recall other things to do off the top of my head, but I'm sure plenty more things to do in Tijuana than just banging sexworkers.

Triangulo was empty around 5 PM. AC was off and so was really cold inside. It was just us. Tables are nice but price of table and beer is a bit on the higher side. Did not like it was cold. Will try pockets next time.

Yadiras mentioned below by others was closed night and day and only opened on Wed after 8 PM. Was cold as hell there too. No music, just us and no one else. We played one game and left. We went to Ricardo's next door, the grand slam we ate there was excellent.

The Chinese restaurant across the street from Ricardo's called Asian tasty was a joke. They gave us a dried up pile of brown rice and some dried rubbery pile of meat.

Has anyone stayed at Hotel Ibiza (the one beside Malquerida)? They used to have a website years ago but it seems to be gone now. Is it still open? Also, has anyone checked out the small hotel beside Gold Club in the alley? I noticed it on my last trip when I was eating on the balcony at Azul and I don't remember it being there before.

There isn't a topic for small bars in Tijuana.

I used to frequent El Fracaso, there were some nice ladies there. It's kind of dead now.

Also, Rio Verde. But the problem with RV is there aren't barfines, you can't take the lady out of the bar without a hassle.

Yea fracosa was a popular place (at least for locals) at one time. I have been in there on weeknights and its pretty dead. But check it out on a Friday or Saturday night and its packed. For you HK guys don't even think about checking it out. But for you explores who are looking for the girl next door give it a try.

As far as Rio Verde and bar fines an amigo bar fined a girl there for 20 bucks. But we all know nothing in Tijuana is set in stone. Might depend on who the manager was at the time or the girl or how much time is left on her shift.
