spent about 4 hours in the zona on friday. i got there about 3pm, parked behind jack in box, crossed the border and walked to fun-land.

i walk over because i like to check out a few shops, i rarely if ever buy anything but i like looking at the trinkets none the less.

i noticed a big change walking over this time. usually about 4 or 5 vendors will offer me valium, x, weed, and it always shocks me how brazen they are about it, but this time they were all conspicuously absent, and none of the vendors i talked to tried to get me to buy any naughty stuff.

I didn't know that the arc was that bad, but if I have to walk Rev at night, it's become a habit to look over each shoulder regularly.

I remember making the trip from Zona Norte to the border crossing at night, on foot - but this was back in the day. It was a bit frought with peril even back then but at least a reasonably sober gringo could make it with almost no problem (at long as he used a little common sense). These days, however, I would definitely agree with all who advise against doing this; the areas one has to travel during that trip have become even more dangerous since I stopped living there full-time, and now the cops are fucking with people in that area (they weren't doing this as badly back then as they are now).

Seems as if the only thing that hasn't changed since my heyday is that a gringo still has to watch his back in this part of town.

I'd agree with you that a daytime approach and the directions you have given would be very helpful for him. It's just that he never really stated when he was planning on doing this (day or night) in walking back from Adelita. When I've gone to Adelita it was always in the evening so I would just take a cab.

I actually would recomending walking to Adelita's from the border the first time for two reasons. 1st you'll probably be doing it in daylight and it's not a reeally safe walk to make at night. 2nd, you can see the arches all the way there (even from the US side) so you'll always have a focal point if you make a wrong turn.

After you go though the border turnstyle go through the next turnstyyle to yuor right (most of the locals will be going that way while most Norte Americanos will go straiit through the next turnstyle towrad the cabs Once through the second turnstyle go left about a block to the sports book, cross the street pass the McDonlads and straiit ahead will be the pedestrion bridge.and the arches. When you get to the arches hang a right on Rev.a left on the next street. Adelita's is about a block and a haf on your left.

If you do decide to walk back go the same way but don't turn at the sports book. Walk past it and you''ll be on the bride that takes you to the border line. BTW, the walk in the daytime can fun. Food stands, hawkers selling theirr wares etc. but at night it's all closed and very dark. I always take a cab.

From there, I walked to Adelitas using a map I printed out which I had previously studied for hours on end so I really didn't even need it. At the Arc go North then make a left at the first corner which is Coahuila and you're there.

My second time, I decided to save the $5 bucks and walk all the way to Adelitas. I wasn't about to pull out my map in front of people so I did the next best thing. I simply walked toward the Arc. You can see it from the border. This is how I found my route on the map. I didn't use a map I just walked in the direction of the Arc. It's simple.

Walking back to the Border, I took the same path but followed other people who where obviously tourists. That's how I found the border. Once you walk both ways you'll easily remember it the second time you're there.
