I crossed last night on foot. Upon crossing to the states, I was asked to show my passport and/or birth certificate. I said I had no idea that they were required. She handed me a leaflet regarding the new security measure and slid my driver's license through the computer, gave a brief explanation and then allowed my passage.
I think you'll be able to cross by claiming ignorance for the next couple of months while carrying only a state ID.

Posts: 1185Puple Rain is on the tourist Strip. I would definitely stay away from any and all of those clubs. From what I hear, they're total rip-offs cause they're exactly like U.S. strip clubs with the same price gouging tactics and no touching allowed and hideous girls.
Hey Bunky, did you use a passport to get through the line?
By the way, can someone tell me the locations of Vivamex and Azteca?

Any specific girls you guys recommend from VivaMex & Azteca and specific references.
I can say that Lizeth at VMx is a 6 at the looks, 8 in massage;
Mary at Az is an 8 at the looks, 8 in massage

Posts: 516Looks Like the Holiday Break Is Finally Over
Returned to the Zona Norte on Wednesday the 30th, and I am pleased to report the girls appear to have returned in force.
First stop was the Chicago Club. It was a little more crowded, and there was even a girl or two worth looking at twice. But that place now has a ficha bar vibe and I find myself less and less inclined to spend any time in there. They REALLY need to re-examine their business model.
Next stop was the Adelita Bar about 9:30 p.m., where the selection was excellent. In addition to the usual girls with the usual look I was thrilled to see some chicas featuring a fresher, less tarted up appearance. Standing near the front door there was a super hard body blonde about 5' 7", with chin length hair and golden skin. She was wearing low rise jeans and a simple crop top, which displayed her amazingly fit body to excellent effect. She looked like one of the teen hotties you see at the mall. She was talking to a shorter, more petite girl who had shoulder-length platinum blonde hair and a banging little body marred only by the obligatory tramp stamp tattoo on her lower back. Again, the look was fresh and natural and a very nice contrast to the heavy makeup and hilarious outfits favored by the rest of the girls. In hottie central there was a brunette with chin length hair, a gorgeous face and a nice body stuffed into a skintight knit minidress. Back in the left rear corner behind the sunken bar there was a tiny little spinner girl with a stylish bob and the cutest little short shorts. And hanging out near the entrance to the mens room was another spinner who is a dead ringer for adult film actress Alexis Love, albeit slightly less well endowed. She was wearing her trademark outfit, which consists of impossibly tiny boy shorts and an equally small sports bra top.
It's always nice to seen half a dozen fuckable girls in the first ten minutes, but I was off to the Hong Kong Club to see if the post holiday lineup was there as well. Am happy to report that's the case. Spent some time sitting with Estrella, a thin brunette with pale skin and the smoky dark eye makeup that young women like these days. I was just going to buy her a drink, but the vibe was good and before I knew it we were up on the third floor making out like teenagers. The girlfriend experience was a nice change of pace, and the waiters even left us largely alone. Estrella was a definite sweetie, and before I knew it we were at the hotel for a great session. Too bad the room was small and dumpy even by Zona Norte standards.
Jumped into a Taxi Libre for the trip back to the border, only to discover there was no meter. I asked the guy about it, but I'm afraid my Spanish wasn't good enough to follow his explanation. But it's funny how bullshit sounds like bullshit, even if it's not in your mother tongue. His car was a death trap, even by Taxi Libre standards, and it died several times en route, the final time coming to an ignominious stop near the Yellow Taxi parking lot. I threw him a few bucks and walked the rest of the way. Inside the pedestrian inspection building there was a short line, but all seemed to be moving smoothly. I suspect that won't be the case on a busy weekend night.

Posts: 1328Yeah but we're talking about your actural birth certificate on file at the county hall of records. You get a "certified extract." If you show up with a piece of paper from Mother of Great Agony Parish, it ain't gonna fly.

I pulled a couple of certified copies years ago so I'm all set. I think this will get you through faster than a passport if your passport has a lot of activity the inspectors will just waste time flipping through pages and asking questions.
The B.C. is a small boring document so they will just look at it and let you go most likely. Much more compact than a passport as it folds up under the DL in the same wallet window.

Last night at about 6:30pm there a full crew (maybe 6-8 guys) working on VivaMex. They had guys working the interior, a guy on a ladder painting the front of the building and a working neon "Open" sign, but it wasn't open yet. Even saw 2 guys standing outside, a Latino and Caucasian guy surveying the work. I suspect one of the two were probably the owner, or maybe they were just fellow mongers like myself checking out the progress.
I still think Friday is very optimistic for an open date, but I could see next week if they get their plumbing done.
When the I saw the Open neon sign I thought it was worth a look, but ended up going to Azteca later. The time off must be killing VivaMex's masseuses, thought a few might be over at Azteca temporarily, but didn't see any the 3 times I've been over during the move.

This is what the US Department of State website says...
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html
LAND AND SEA TRAVEL
The following summarizes information available on the Department of Homeland Security’s website.
* JANUARY 31, 2008
U.S. and Canadian citizens will need to present either a WHTI-compliant document, or a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, plus proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. DHS also proposes to begin alternative procedures for U.S. and Canadian children at that time.
* LATER
At a later date, to be determined, the departments will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have either a U.S. passport; a U.S. passport card; a trusted traveler card such as NEXUS, FAST, or SENTRI; a valid Merchant Mariner Document (MMD) when traveling in conjunction with official maritime business; or a valid U.S. Military identification card when traveling on official orders.
I'd rather not go through being hassled at the border and making my crossing the border any longer then need be, so I'd take my passport with me.

Posts: 516Birth Certificate - Certified Copy With Seal?
Do you fellas know if a photocopy of your birth certificate will suffice?
When applying for a passport the State Department requires a "certified" copy of the applicant's birth certificate bearing an embossed raised seal from the government agency that issued it. Given how easy it is to create a fake document using Photoshop etc. the requirement for a certified copy bearing a seal is sensible. I'm not saying the crooks can't fake the seal as well. But the average person probably lacks the capability to do that.
Anyway, given that a certified copy of a birth certificate is needed to apply for a passport, I suspect the official rule is that a certified copy is required as proof of citizenship when crossing the border without a passport.
Will officials at the border let you slide and accept a photocopy? Who knows? I suspect there will be some leniency at first. But the Department of Homeland Security seems bound and determined to require "WHTI compliant travel documents," regardless of the hassle that's going to cause at the world's busiest border crossing. So I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually take a hard line and require a certified copy of your birth certificate.
