Yea I don't get that and it does bother me. The past decade or so the police have been becoming more and more militarized and no longer resemble cops.

The days of protect and serve are gone. Now they only enforce laws, collect revenue and act like thugs.

I talked to a friend today that was at a massage parlor in socal during a raid today. I trust him and he has no reason to lie to me. Here's what he told me verbatim.

"Went in and was waiting for masseuse to come in. While waiting, heard a ton of commotion from outside, banging on the door, lots of yelling. Cops.

Waited in the room and they came in. The door to the room was wide open because he was waiting still. They were there in full on raid gear. Body armor, helmets, assault rifles, masks, the whole nine yards. Told him to get face down on the ground, which he did, while they completed the raid. For about 10 minutes he waited on the ground with a cop over him, gun drawn, finger on trigger. Now keep in mind, my friend works in a professional atmosphere and is very respectful. He looked to the side and up at the cop and noticed the gun pointing right at him. He asked the cop, are you pointing that gun at my head. Another cop said, yes he is, don't move. After the 10 minutes or so went by, he was grouped with the masseuses and one client. Cuffed and gave personal info, name, dob and address in front of all the other people and the other client. There were about 15 cops in raid gear and about 5 other "suits". They were all proud of their raid and accomplishment. He was then taken into another room for questioning. He was just there for a massage, so he was not arrested. They said that those places are human traffickers and the women are forced to work there. Mentioned a few websites and asked if he was familiar with them. Cop asked which vehicle was his, he said oh ok, you just got here. We've been watching this place all day. Questioned, detained, and released. They walked him to the front door and said, you're free to go, but would you mind sticking around until we question everyone else. He said, I'm free to go? They said yes. He said, you just had a gun pointed at my head and cuffed me. I'm leaving.

End of story."

I couldn't believe he told me this. He was completely freaked out, fearing a criminal charge and physical harm during the process until he was released. Thoughts of his professional reputation, picture in the news, etc. I have been to Tijuana several times now and I appreciate even more the zona. I believe that the women in the zona have less miles than massage parlor girls. You can actually enjoy your time in the zona, enjoy a personal experience, chatting, etc. Not so much of a factory feeling. I'm sure for the price of 1 parlor girl I can have 2 chicas, a couple beers and some tacos. When there is a knock on the door, it's not cops in raid gear.

I personally think it's pathetic that this type of raid is seen as a success and a good use of police assets. Get a fuckin life. Go bust some gangbangers or some drug dealers. Yes I realize the zona and Tijuana is not a place to let your guard down but I'll take my chances.

Should I stay away during that holiday as they jack up prices and it gets too crowded or would it be a fun experience to be there for this holiday? Any and all suggestions and comments are welcome. Cinco de Mayo is more of an American holiday than in Mexico. All prices are the same. All the girls are the same. If you want a Cinco de Mayo holiday go to Old Town San Diego!

On a side note, I have never seen this before but on Saturday, on the corner between the Jack in the Box and the trolley station there were a bunch of SD police officers doing some kind of special enforcment looking for pedestrian violations. They were writing many tickets for jay walking and crossing against the light. So I guess we have something else to watch out for as we anxiously make our final approach to MX.

If anybody still thinks that the police are here to protect the public, they are sadly mistaken. I suspect 90% of a cop's job these days is "revenue enhancement." Tax collectors for the welfare state. The other 10% is probably looking for some poor bastard to beat the shit out of.

I am sorry, But I am NO fan of Law Enforcement! On either side of the border. I work in Coronado and know several police officers. They are ALL assholes. YMMV but to me the power goes to their head. I watch them hide (Coronado police) in the bushes and shine their cameras on cars "leaving Coronado to go over the bridge". A real Safety hazard for the poor RICH folks in Coronado! Well it does not matter what side of the border they work for! It seems to be "culturally excepted" in Mexico to pay them off (Police) and generally being assholes! In the US no payoff (unless you are a SD cop- one convicted last year for extorting sex from a drunk woman) He is in jail, getting all the sex he needs now!

I know that regular US serviceman are not allowed to go to Tijuana, and I think I heard cops are not supposed to go either, I could be wrong. I know a few who do go. CBP agents are not the "happiest bunch" of people either, A lot have no Idea about Mexico and have no info on culture and people in general. Of course this is only MY opinion!

Well guess what? I had no idea_ but that said cop in San Diego jail was just on TV requesting a new trial because of what he said (his attorney) that the "shoddy" prosecution botched his case! And they said he deserves a new trial! I take it back, maybe the police in the SD district can be bribed!
