Yeah Ticuan won't charge it and Pueblo Amigo offered me tax free in person today. Grand Hotel DOES charge you the tax. I would be interested in knowing all the hotels that don't charge it.

Anyone with experience? Knock the tax off the price and it might work but an extra $425 on top of it is brutal.

    Thanks.

Mexico tightens ban on smoking in public places

    https://www.yahoo.com/now/mexico-tig...014937450.html

Will Grant. Mexico and Central America Correspondent.

Sat, January 14,2023 at 5:49 PM PST1 min read.

Mexico has brought into force one of the world's strictest anti-tobacco laws by enacting a total ban on smoking in public places.

The step, which was first approved in 2021, also includes a ban on tobacco advertising.

Several other Latin American countries have also passed legislation to create smoke-free public spaces.

However, Mexico's legislation is considered to be the most robust and wide-ranging in the Americas.

It amounts to one of the most stringent anti-smoking laws in the world. Mexico's existing 2008 law. Which created smoke-free spaces in bars, restaurants and workplaces. Is now extended to an outright ban in all public spaces. That includes parks, beaches, hotels, offices and restaurants.

There will also be a total ban on the advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products, meaning that cigarettes cannot even be on show inside shops.

Vapes and e-cigarettes are also subject to tighter new restrictions, particularly indoors.

The Pan American Health Organisation has welcomed the step and applauded the Mexican government for implementing the ban.

The organisation says that tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of death in the world, responsible for nearly a million deaths in the Americas each year, either through direct consumption or exposure to second-hand smoke.

However, some smokers are dismayed at the draconian nature of the new law.

In essence, it means that many will only be allowed to smoke in their homes or other private residences.

Others have raised questions about the practicalities of enforcing the law.

With police corruption so rampant in Mexico, many fear that rather than issuing real fines or punishments for smoking in public, some officers will use it as a pretext for taking bribes. - (So it looks like you can't smoke cigarettes in Hong Kong and Adelitas from today.)

You can buy cartons of cigarettes and alcoholic beverages at the "Tijuana Duty Free" store right at the entrance to the US pedeast (pedestrian border crossing).

I pay by the day and don't pay tax. Maybe its included. I find prices in person cheaper than travel websites. Are they giving you a discount? If not I would definitely not rent anything by the month. Your better off getting hk vip card, doing that once or twice week on Mondays Tuesday, spend 120 night at Marriot once or twice, stay in Playas de Tijuana on days you don't need Hong Kong, hotel Baja, and Ceasars, plus theres few newer hotels off revolution a few feet I've never stayed.

Yeah the Tijuana papers had been talking about it most of the week, I guess the first hours it was opened on Monday only about20 people went thru so I guess the word didn't get out to well.

I think that agent is confused and gave you bad info. The border doesn't close for holidays and if it was to be closed they would notify the public. Also PedWest is one of the points for those seeking asylum to come to with that new border app.

That's the big question on the legalization of it. Will it help or make it worse. If it's very expensive the Cartels I'm sure will still just produce it to sell to those that can't pay for the legal stuff. I mean marijuana is legal in California but with the high taxes on it many people still buy it on the street. So California tried lowering taxes to get more business.

Well I've only heard of the problem getting worse over the last few years and it corresponding to the amount if homeless people. This pertains to the cars, I don't hear so many reports about homes but with people putting so much personal information on Facebook it's easy to figure out who's not going to be in town for some time. You could also question if people that stay at an Airbnb could later go back to rob the place knowing that nobody actually lives there and the neighbors are use to seeing different people come and go.

Wouldn't the Duty free in Mexico be the cheapest?

Since the tax is included in the price of things in Mexico I wonder if Ticuans price includes the tax and maybe if you went online it's different. Or they add the tax when you pay your bill. I would double check to make sure what the exact final price is.

Go to 5th street and Revolucion. The stand that sells tobacco also sells cartons. He has been there for years.

Criminals are kind of uncooperative with the time. They tend to lay in wait and break in when you are not home. Then they sack the house for guns because it is so easy to move them.
