There are a couple of pleasant differences. Most of these clubs have few, or zero, gringos. While some guys may feel intimidated by being the only white guy in the joint (not referring to you, of course) , I've rarely encountered hostility, and usually friendliness. But, that's beside the point.

The nice thing is that with the lack of gringos comes a distinct lack of bullshit. Yes, the ficha prices are the same. But there is no cheese plate, sneaking in a bag of chips, dollar tips for every swinging dick who comes by. Meseros seem genuinely grateful for a 10p tip. As in a normal club, you almost always have the same mesero. Nobody is constantly hustling you for drinks. So, while the prices aren't much better than the Zona, the attitude seems to be much further ahead. I've always maintained that locals wouldn't put up with 10% of the bullshit gringos visiting the Zona put up with. That's why I do most of my partying outside the Zona these days.

I have never been to any bars outside zona. Mostly because I often go during the day. Are there any talent in these bars during the day also?

When I got tired of one bar I had to cab it to another bar vs just walking to the next one (next door) like I do in centro.

These bars are for people who don't live close to centro or for people who don't want to be seen in the zona. There is nothing unique about them.

A regular to Tijuana might be able to arrange an offsite date but you need to work it. The average guy who goes searching for new and exciting won't find it in these bars.

I went down to La Cueva Del Peludo about a month ago. It's kind of a far taxi drive from La Coahuila. Interesting place, kind of low key, no hustle and a cool place to relax. The quality of girls is akin to that of Chavelas. There are a couple of cuties here and there. It's worth checking out. Kind of nice not to have them damn meseros bugging you for a beer every two seconds like Chavelas, Tropical and Hong Kong.

Find which red collectivos run down Agua Caliente. That turns into Diaz Ordaz. It's a bit slower than a cab, but will only set you back about $1 per person.

Yes Rojo taxi is the cheap way to get there. Just look for the 5 Y 10 sign in the front window of the red cab and thats the one that will get you there.

We were in the area of La Cueva on Saturday and I was looking for a bar to watch the Final Four. Checked with the guy at the door to see if basketball was on tv, he confirmed Si basketball no problem. So we parked the car $4. 50 up front to park in there lot. We were greeted by a masero upon entry and told him we wanted to watch the basketball games, by now I noticed every tv had soccer on. He said come on and took us upstairs to a booth. Anyways we order a bucket and sat there for an hour trying to get someone to put basketball on, but nobody would help. Finally took the last 2 beers and shoved them in my pants and we left the car there and jumped into a red cab headed for the zona.

As we got close to Centro police cars were coming from everywhere with lights and sirens going. It was crazy they were driving on the wrong side of the road nearly crashing into on coming cars. We did learn later there was a gun battle involving AK 47's sounds drug related but the police claimed it was traffic related.

Finally we did have no problem finding the games on in the Zona. Of course to much drinking led to to much drama. On one of my walks around the Zona to escape the drama I did run into Artisttyp who seemed to be enjoying a nice night chilling in the zona. He did end up meeting up with us for a drink. Of course I must apoligize to Art for dragging into him into the drama. She latched on to his ear and the tears started flowing. I could read his mind, "this is no way to spend a night in the zona." So lo siento my amigo. And I understand your rapid departure.

And then if the night wasn't bad enough my MBGF narrowly avoided what would have been a financial disaster in her life. I better not say more. But a note to myself not a good idea for us to spend a nice night back in Zona Norte.

started off at chavelas to grab a couple 2 for 1 beers. met a little cutie and bought her one drink. she started at $65 to go arriba. i said 50. she said 55. i said ok 50 and if you are bueno i'll give you 5 propina. well it was a dream and she earned that propina. it's possible she is a squirter because there several wet spots on the bed when we were done.

next stop hong kong and after one beer i see a girl i know from my last visit. when i visited a couple weeks ago i did her twice in one night simply because the pickings were so slim on a monday. after a drink i said let's go arriba and i was able to witness her having a couple orgasms which i really enjoy seeing. this set me back another 50.

on to ab where there were a few lookers. i chatted with a 9. she started at 85 and wouldn't budge off of 70. i said 60 or i pass. ok pass. 5 minutes later i start in on another and i was able to negotiate 50 including bbbj. she looked good in the club but she was a bit thick when up in the room. i guess i had my beer goggles on by that point. regardless, by this point in the night i really railed her good for the full 30 minutes. i kinda regretted it though because the first girl at ab said i could go as many times i want within the 30 minutes. but we all know how that goes.

i've been going down about every 2 weeks and actually have become friends lol with a few girls. even facebook friends. this works out for to stay in contact and find out when they are in town. plus i get to look at all their pictures haha.

I was a bit curious and wondered if anyone else has been there. Next time by buddy and I cross from there we will check that out before heading over to the Zona. Sounds like it could be fun.

La Cueva del Peludo is located in the La Mesa area of Tijuana. There are clubs located further Northeast in an area bounded by the Otay Crossing, Blvd 2000 and Macro Plaza. They make for interesting bar-hopping excursions, but are distributed over a wide area. If you're not driving, taxi is really the only way to visit them, especially late at night. (Most of these clubs don't start the action until after 10:00 PM.) My favorite of these is La Botana, located in Plaza Tigre.

For those of you who liked the way Las Chavelas used to be, you may like going to La Cueva del Peludo. It's located on Diaz Ordaz, past the dog track. We took a red collectivo from LVZ and it was something like 25 pesos for two. Sweet. But they offer border pickup and have a nice web site. Google it and it'll come right up.

Anyway, they have a long bar where loads of the chicas sit and wait for you to pick them up. A large dance floor where they alternate strip shows with $1-a-dance dancing. Beers are 17 pesos each (equivalent to the zona's 2x1 offers, but you don't have to buy 2). Ficha drinks are 85 pesos, don't know what arribas are, but Rocky speculated they were equivalent to the zona. I suspect they'll be cheaper than the silly $80 being bandied about HK these days.

We got there around 9, IIRC, and the place was jumping. Had to wait quite a while for a table. As far as I could tell, zero gringos (except for one). The girls ranged from young to mature, from more "local" tastes to a couple of knockouts. I think there is something for everybody. It had a much more laid back attitude than the zona bars, no hustle by the meseros and, interestingly, the chicas didn't demand a tip when they sat on your lap and allowed a quick grope. I did anyway, but it certainly didn't appear to be mandatory. Except for the heavy smoke, it was an interesting place to hang.

I hit town Saturday. Rocky the Flying Squirrel and I hit a few places I'd never been, so I thought I'd share.

First, I came without reservations. And learned the hard way that none of the nice short-time hotels will let you rent overnight. At least not until rather late. An exception is Motel Otay, but you have to pay in cash, no credit card. I needed to conserve my cash, so that was out. We wound up at the Villa de Zaragoza, $60 was the walk-in rate. It's OK but certainly not great. But it was quiet and clean.

Next we took the collectivo back and went to La Malquerida, a place she likes to hang out with her friends. Half a cubeta later and it was time to move on.

She really wanted to hit El Premier. OK. It's near the SW corner of Coahuila and Revolucion, near La Tropa (which looks like they've done a remodel). Anyway, it's a gay bar and they wanted a 100p cover for men and 30p for women. Grrr.

It has a rather long, skinny stage in the middle of the place and it's populated by some seriously studly male dancers. Several of the guys looked like they stepped out of some magazine. They did nothing for me, but Rocky was thrilled. We ordered a half a cubeta, I broke a $10 bill and handed her the singles. Then we started waving the dancers down to give her lap dances. I will say that the girls get a helluva lot more action in their $1 lap dances than we guys get from tipping the HK chicas $1. Dayum. There were a few ladies in there, enjoying the scenery, a few fag hags and loads of guys. I entertained myself by watching the two guys across from us kiss. The couple next to us (guy and girl) kept buying lap dances for the guy. Interesting bunch. Not a place I'd hang out, but Rocky really enjoyed it.

I have never experienced any problems in Tijuana and don't want my luck to run out. I am planning on heading down there next Wednesday afternoon around 4:00pm and will be gone well before dark. My plan is to take a cab directly to Adelitas and likely not wander around anywhere this time to be safe. Taxi back to the line. Is it worse than usual and would I expect any problems?

I live in San Diego. I have been going to Tijuana for years. I too know the bullshit the scared / racist people are in San Diego. Not all but a lot. Good. Keep them out! As for crime- I have not seen any from the locals. I have seen what the CRIMINAL policia can do though!
