Where are you planning on going? It's already been pointed out that you don't need an auto permit to travel in Baja California.

I plan on going in the next few weeks and will take my car. I'll see if they make me get a auto permit this time around.

I capische. But my question is why I wasn't asked about one upon entering and leaving Mexico? Could I have stayed longer than 72 hours and driven all over Mexico and they would have never been the wiser? Is this based on an trust system where they expect you to be a good citizen that follows the rules by filing out applications and giving them money because it's required but not checked?

Another questions I have on that link is that it says you have to pay for the tourist visa. Does this also apply to vacationers going to Cancun?

For land crossings, yes, it's a "trust system." I once drove all the way from LA to La Paz without one, with no problems. As Artisttyp said, you will only need it if the fuzz decide to fuck with you for some reason. So, in this day and age, it's better to waste $25 and CYA.

BTW, just to be a pedantic a-hole, it's really not a visa. You automatically get one if you're a citizen of a particular country, just by virtue of holding a passport. Others have to apply for a visa, pay, etc, etc. IMHO, it's a half-assed way to "keep track" of furriners running around the joint, and to extract a bit more money from them.

I haven't flown in to MX for years, but I believe they give you one of these to fill out before you land, just as in most other countries. I seem to recall them stapling it into my passport, but memory is too fuzzy. The point is, they don't have a good system in place to issue ones to people coming in from land crossings. So, you'll have to stop and get one.

Yes, it applies to vacationers going to Cancun. I filled mine out when I was on the plane and apparently my fee was included in the plane ticket. I foolishly didn't even know what it was for and almost trashed it on my way back thinking it wasn't needed anymore. If I remember correctly, they don't check it when you land in Cancun, they check it at the airport when you're on your way back to the states.

You only need one if you're going to be there longer than 72 hours, or if you're going outside the tourist corridor. In your case that would be anywhere outside of the Tijuana to Ensenada area. So, Tijuana, Rosarito, Ensenada and parts in between, if shorter than 3 days, you don't need one. Capische?

In the news today actor Michael Douglas said he was misquoted that he got cancer from oral sex (DATY). Well that's good to hear! We just don"t need any negative comments on my FAVORITE activity! I had a SG (who refused my DATY request ask me why "I" enjoyed it. I asked her if it was not in her job, discription did she like to give head? She said "yes" and I said "why". She said OK I get it. (no she did not get it!)

Must've been a slow news day when the media has to mis-quote Michael Douglas to get a 'titillating' story about how DATY=throat cancer. Here's a side story on the subject that puts a better perspective on cunnilingus and your chances of picking up a dose of HVP16 causing cancer in a proper light. As all exchanges of bodily fluids hold some inherent risk of STD transmission, it's kind of 'muff-divers beware'. But many, MANY other things we do in the Zona in Tijuana statistically carry an even larger risk it would seem.

Just personally speaking, 'diving' on a street puta or a CG seems a bit beyond the pale to me, but we all have our little perversions, I suppose. So to all you 'Y-diners' out there, keep on 'munchin'!

Also, I noticed they changed pedestrian entry lanes within the building. The Sentri is now on the right and the regular lines on the left. They also added new railings starting from the turnstile glass door. An improvement in my opinion.

It's been years since I've gotten one but unless things have changed you can only get one at the border.

I was checking the web cams on Bordertraffic. Com the past few days and there is hardly any wait at all in the pedestrian lines. The last few times I have been down there the line only extends to the pedestrian bridge and sometimes shorter. Heading down tomorrow, can't wait to see Jamie again.
