Yes, you need to be careful. I have going over on my data, and it gets expensive quickly. I have not had any issues with the calls, but they slow my speed and then you have to pay $50-100 for more data. Verizon does the same.

One tip I came up with is if you have T mobile phone you can download the DIGITS app to another device. It allows you to receive your Tmobile calls on another device. In my case I have the app on my Tijuana burner phone and it works really well. I get notified when I receive calls or messages on my US phone via the app on my Tijuana phone. The only caveat is it sometimes it asks you to log in with a pin code sent to your USA phone! I think you can do that once then bypass it for awhile. Still working on that end of it but the DIGITS app is worth looking into.

Are any of you guys using <Google FI> down there and how is the connection?

This isn't about Google FI, but my experience with Google's customer support has been pretty bad.

Yesterday, I found a $5 mystery charge on my credit card bill. I spent hours trying to figure out which branch of Google it came from: Google Pay, Google Play Store, etc. , etc,. Their Manila-based technicians, using garbled phone lines, could not be made to understand the question.

But I don't really know. Maybe Google FI is better.

My concern though is if I move down there permanently my Mexico usage will be over 50% which Tmobile views as a breach of contract and they will terminate my account. I have received messages before from them giving me warnings about this. It seems like Google Fi would be made for someone like me or specifically for a Nomad Traveler. The concept is great but wondering how it truly works out for people.

One drawback that kept coming up is lack of brick and mortar support. Have you needed any support and have they been responsive to your needs? I find customer care with cellphone carriers to be a huge indicator as to overall service.

Is great in HK and Cascadas and no effort required to switch when entering MEX. It does it automatically. Also is great in USA Or anywhere cell phone coverage is spotty. I am using Google Fi via a Verizon hotspot now in an area in Central Texas where my regular Google Fi cell service is bad.

Yesterday Friday night was extremely sparse. I think this is the annual summer break for the Chicas where they go home to see their kids on their summer break and come back in the Fall. There was some weird outage and the alley was kinda dark when the street lights failed to work. It must have been preplanned because many of the businesses in the alley closed early. So by 11 pm, it felt like 2 am. Without proper lighting I suppose a lot of people were kinda scared.

Well regardless, the USA Department of State alert for Rosarito / Tijuana did stem directly from that incident (and resulting arrest). Maybe they felt retaliation for the attempted assassination in Rosarito could extend into Tijuana, I don't know. Also my understanding is even though he was arrested in Rosarito, he's currently being held in Tijuana, so maybe a potential attempt by the cartel to free him (in Tijuana) could get violent.

Where is the jail that is most likely holding him so we know which area to avoid?

Maybe my judgement is swayed by desire for Tijuana pussy, but that's not a Tijuana cartel boss that was knocked out. That is a Sinaloa boss, probably a captain snooping around in Tijuana cartel territory and was taken out. The Tijuana cartel still has control of Tijuana so there isn't going to be a big turf fight.

300 casings probably came from the 4 sicarios and also the 1 bodyguard means that each shooter emptied only 2 mags. (5 shooter x 30 round mags x two mags each). One reload each is pretty low in a firefight.

To be pedantic, the bodyguard wasn't roaming the mean streets of Rosarito with an AK on his shoulder. So that eliminates two 30-round mags from your equation. I'm not sure how many firefights you've been in, but this hardly seems to qualify. The guy was exiting a barbershop and had a few yards to walk to his armored truck. He got jumped by several "hitmen," presumably with automatic weapons. They sprayed lead all over the joint and took off. In your scenario they had time, in these few seconds, to reload and spray some more. And the results of this was the bodyguard was killed and a little boy wounded.

So, were they really, really bad shots? Or maybe they were just sending a message? Get out of our territory? Dunno.

Interesting article. The cops had no idea this guy was running around in their fair city until he was accidentally handed to them on a silver platter by the hospital. I think the fascinating thing is that there were 300 shots fired and they only killed the bodyguard and wounded one kid. These "sicarios" are either really bad shots or "assault rifles" aren't quite as deadly as everybody makes them out to be.
