It's not up to the cops to enforce the health card requirement. There's a city agency Municipal Medical Services SMM in spanish that does that. The cops provide back up when the inspectors come around.

With the monthly pressure to pass the health test can someone just generate a "fake sticker" easily and drop-out of the monthly checks ? Any special tag marking on the sticker?

Does not seem like it would take much with a computer unless it has a raised seal.

Knowing that it is actually hers and not a friends is another concern.

Where there is a will there is a scam.

All considered, it is far better to see a health card than not see a card.

You have a good point. The sticker is nothing but a round piece of blue or red paper with manually written date of the next checkup. But I also think that the date of a checkup is automatically incoded into the card's magnetic strip. The cops are supposed to scan the cards through their hand-held device to verify the information. But again, I ve talked to some girls who hung out right outside the police station and did not have cards at all. Seems like the cops are not that bent on enforcing.

Yes, there is a colored sticker on the front of the cards, indicating the date of their last checkup. The sticker is replaced with a new one after the checkup. So, if you're checking the card you must also check the sticker.

Professor Katsulis research was in 2001 period over a two month period without the effect of drug cartel violence issue, H1NI, current TJ practice or the current recession. This part of her PH.D program.
Katsulis is a medical anthropologist with extensive and impressive credentials and exceptional training, and currently an Associate Professor in Women Studies as ASU. A Ph.d and Master from Yale puts her over the top on the research subject of Sex Workers in TJ.

I don't know. But interesting that you brought this up cause I've asked a few bar girls if they started on the street since I figured they all start at the bottom as SW. But surprisingly they all said they started in the bars. One told me she started at Chicago Club but got penalized cause she refused to work over time so she left and joined AB. She then moved to HK cause AB had too much competition.

Another girl was a Mexican-American girl that surprisingly lived near me about ten years ago. She then moved to Italy with a sugar daddy but when that finished, she ended up in TJ where she started in HK and has been there ever since.

An AB girl told me she entered prostitution because her friend used to do it and made good money working at AB. So she decided to do it as well. She applied for AB and was accepted.

A girl from Tropical Bar told me she had only been working there for about a week. She answered an AD in a newspaper and got the job.

I've asked many other bar girls and they all had similar stories but apparently none of them started on the street. Maybe the street girls preffer the street or maybe they are stuck there cause their pimps(the ones that have them) don't want to share their profits with the bars and decide to keep them on the street.

I also asked a few times why a SW was working on the streets instead of inside a bar. Most of them told me that being your own boss on the street is more appealing that working inside a bar where one would be subjected to many rules. Plus, I also gathered that many simply might not fair as well working at AB or other places, just because they simply cannot compete with the beauty queens who work there.

Can not imagine a chica wanting to be a paradita.

The different weather conditions and the clientele has got to be worse at times.

My experience in HK is that the girls do not carry their cards. I assumed that management held them. I accompanied one, a while back, to get her exam and renewal. Afterwards, she gave the card back to whoever was in charge. I've also seen a HK doorman checking girls in at the beginning of their shift. He had a whole thick stack of health cards.

OTOH, I've had chicas in CC pull them out of their purse.
