I also try to avoid the ceviche stand that is on the street during the summer months. 90 degree temperatures and ceviche = blah

Also, long time vegetarians are best to not give up vegetarianism for the first time with a street side chorizo taco. TRUST ME! That sh*t will run right through you.

In all honesty though, you could get sick at a Sanborns if you are ordering something that is a rarity in Tijuana. Like Surfnk9 says, look for the crowd, not only does the turnover mean the food is fresher, but they have their system down. (ie the person making your food is not the one taking the money)

I did visit Tijuana once before but stayed north of the border mainly because of the fear of the food. A man has to eat. I'm a guysy guy except when it comes to food in Mexico.

Good question Joe. It's been discussed here before but you would have to go back a ways to get it.
Montezumas Revenge mainly comes from dirty water. So that means tap water, ice cubes from tap ater, vegetables rinsed in tap water, hands washed in tap water without soap or heat, and dishes not properly washed. Also meat not heated enough.
There are several ways to avoid stomach proplems.
Eat at busy restaurants and stands. Where there's a crowd, the food is fresher.
Don't use tap water for brushing your teeth.
Drink bottled water and avoid ice unless you know it comes from a safe source.i.e. bagged.
I take a Peptol Bismol tablet before I eat a meal. It is a technique I have used all over the world and it has never failed. If you plan to use Levitra or Viagra, take the ED pill 45 minutes before taking Peptol Bismol.
All in all I feel it's safe, but you do need to take precautions.

Interesting report. HK and AB are not more "up market" in terms of price compared to the "less than $100" that you spent at Playboy. They generally cost about the same (girl: 60 + room: 12) plus drinks which for us are the same price ($4).

I had not been to the "Zona" for over a month and wanted to check out the action. For me it is only w 20 peso taxi from my condo, I never drive at night unless I have to.

There was very little to be seen on a Monday night. Went to Hong Kong and Adelitas, but, they are to up market and not to my liking anyway,

My usual, have not seen any mention in these reports, is the Playboy on Constitution. It has been recently remodeled but not improved as I liked it better when it was more lower class.

There are some very attractive girls working down stairs performing 2 or 3 dance numbers stripping down to bare upper torso. All of the dancers will go to the "vip" rooms downstairs and it will cost around $65 more or less, this is $40 for the room and the rest for the girl, I have had some great times in the "vip" rooms. The furnishing leaves much to be desired, but, who of us is a an interior decorator?

The upstairs has a dance floor at just above floor level. The girls try very hard to please and are generally attractive, they also can be taken out or into the rooms in the rear. Prices are about the same. Drinks are US$4. 00 on either level. I hooked up with one of the dancers and took a room. No GFE, but, this is not available in Tijuana, or if it is I have not found it except when I operated a bar there. The performance was very good. Cost for drinks, $23 plus the room and girl came out to be less than $100.

Later hooked up with my regular, on the wall south of Coahuila about 1/2 to the alley. About 11:00 PM.

WE usually go to my condo for what would be in Bangkok a long time. She will accept whatever I want to give her and I brought her back at 6:00 am the next day, cost was $40. 00.

My experience is: go early, look around as there are some real finds for the patient and experienced monger. Stay sober and bargain.

day 3

we left the hotel around 11am and headed up toward the arch. we decided to walk towards the border to check out the area around there. we decided to get breakfast at taco bell which is a couple of blocks away from the arch heading toward the border. it was good food and something different than tacos and seafood. after breakfast we did some more souvenir shopping around revolucion. i wanted to go to vivamex spa to have alexandra give me another great massage. she wasn’t working wednesday, but we still went for a 90min massage for $55. after the massage we went back to the hotel to freshen up before heading out.

Day 2 Part 2

It was around 8pm as we head back to the hotel to freshen up after the massage. I was determined to make this trip a good one so I planned to follow some advice I’ve read on the forums here. Day 2 Part 1

We start off by waking up around 9am and are out the door around 10am. We walk down Revolucion heading toward the Jai Alai arena to explore picking up coffee on the way. After seeing nothing much we decide to head back up toward our hotel and head into the restaurant directly across from our hotel to get breakfast. We relax and plan out what we should do next. We finally decide to try a SW. We head toward and the zone to check out the girls available. My friend can’t decide, but I’ve had my eyes on this girl in a school girl outfit I saw the day before. So we enter the club and I get a bad vibe right away as there are only 2 other patrons in this club with the rest of the girls sitting around. Right away we get asked what we want to drink and also a girl starts to give my friend a grinding lapdance. I have a girl try to get up on me but I push her back as she is ugly with black teeth. I told my friend to take off but he wanted to wait for a few minutes for the guy. Of course he did have a girl dry humping him. I told him I will wait for him outside so it will force him to leave. After doing some shopping we decide to check out Aztec Massage, but they had a 2 hour wait, so we headed back to the hotel to relax a bit. On the way back we hit up the Casino and lost 100 pesos each. We played some kind of bingo slot machine, but lost it pretty fast. So after relaxing at the hotel, we headed out to Aztec Massage to get our massage. We run into the same guy who try to sell my buddy some percocet and says he spent his own money to buy it and we left him hanging. So my buddy follows him to the alley behind the Casino to buy the percocet and popped them right away. I still can’t believe that we were buying drugs in TJ off the streets. After that we get to Aztec and just wait a few minutes before getting our massages. I got the basic massage and shower for $25/hour while my buddy got that plus the body shampoo for $40/hour total. For the body shampoo the girl washes you in the shower. He ends up with a not so hot girl so it wasn’t all that good, but the massage was pretty good. My girl was cute and I got a good massage, but not as good as the one at VivaMex Spa. Overall it was worth it for $25. Only if massages in the US were as good and as cheap.

day 1

i just got back from a 4 day trip to tijuana flying into san diego with my good buddy. i’m from the east coast so the last day was just spent on traveling. i’d like to start off by saying we had a great experience and it was all due to the advice and reports i’ve read here for the past 2 years. with all the reports, brockton o’tools guide and efjayel’s map, i felt like i knew tj like it was my own neighborhood. thank you very much. i’ve been planning this trip for the past 2 years and finally had the opportunity to do it now. i’ve been good since my last monger trip to montreal in 2007, but more because it’s not worth it on the east coast to monger.

the reports are going to be long and as detailed as possible. too bad if it bothers you. just don’t read it. i’m just trying to give back to all my monger brothers. i’ll break it down by days, so only 3 reports. we mongered like newbies the first day, but quickly figured things out and it all turned out to be a great experience. my buddy can’t wait until we go again. although we both have mongered in asia (my buddy in thailand/cambodia and hong kong, china for me), this is the best on this side of the planet. nothing beats asia, but tj is good, closer and a lot cheaper.

our trip started on monday and after landing at san diego airport, we found our way to the bus stop to take bus 992 and headed into town to find the trolley. after finding the trolley we decided to walk around the area to find a bank which was across the street. i decided we needed to take some pics of the city to show our significant others that we did some things in san diego and before visiting tj. after walking around and taking some pics of the city we jumped on the trolley heading to the border. after about an hour’s ride, we arrived and followed the crowd heading up the ramps. we joked about not getting killed and getting shot as we walked up the ramps and over the bridge. i noticed the clanking of the gates as we were walking down the ramp on the other side and knew what everyone was talking about that familiar sound as they head over the border. my friend was a little worried about the guards with the automatic weapons. we got out the gates and had the first taxi driver take us to hotel espana which is 2 buildings from vivamex spa. we checked in and paid $40/night + $10 deposit.

after showering and freshening up we headed out to explore the area by heading towards the arch. riding in the taxi towards the hotel everything seemed so overwhelming with people all around and buildings looking run down. while walking towards the arch, it felt similar to chinatown in nyc with all those shops and touts outside trying to get you inside. we walked towards the zone and found ourselves on the corner with the seafood stand and taco stand by hk. we were hungry so we stuffed ourselves with a couple of beef and pork tacos. they were awesome. after debating we decided to head back to vivamex to get a massage to recharge after our long travels. i got the therapeutic massage for $39/hour and my buddy got the deep tissue massage for $49/hour. i drew alexandra who was pretty and ended up giving me one of the best massages i’ve ever had. great technique and made me feel so relaxed. of course no he included. it just hit the spot.

I live in Texas and I am hearing some really bad thing about Mexican border violence. As long as one sticks to mongering, how bad is it? I haven't been since December.

To tell you the truth, I think that things have gotten better since the turn of the new year. I mean people are still dying, but the random shootings in public places are no where near as frequent. The military is out in force, and it sounds like Calderon is starting to clean up the police depts, but only time will tell.

As for the zona, the only difference that I notice is the drop in tourism. Just seams like there are less people, but that could just be that my last couple trips were during the day, instead of the night.

Re Violence in Tijuana:

As far as I know the Red zone is being protected by SWAT teams who travel in groups of 8, in two seperate trucks but always in visual contact. All armed to the teeth in body armor and assault rifles. All wear facemasks. If you watch them closely, they all patrol like military personel. They don't bullshit with each other, their eyes continuously roam the streets in different direction. If they weren't wearing blue, I could have sworn that these Mexican military.

To me it does seem safer with these guys around. On the other hand, you do have to wonder why these guys are needed in addition to the ordinary police.

After driving all the way down to San Ysidro and realizing that I had forgotten my passport, AGAIN! , I want to get that new passport card so that I can just keep it in my wallet at all times. I printed out the application, and am almost ready to send it back in, but I also have to send my regular passport with it, and I tell myself, "one more trip, then send in the paperwork"

Has anyone actually got one of these cards yet? And how long am I going to be without a passport while I am waiting to get it back in the mail from that delightful bureaucracy?

By the way, for all or you still using a birth certificate and DL, you too are coming down to the wire. Unless the gov pushes the date back again, you are going to NEED that passport this summer. I think that I read about some deal on getting a passport card and book for the same price, for first time passport applications.

Never tried Greyhound. How is the Tres Estrellas? How often do they make the trip per day, how much do they charge roundtrip and do they make stops in between? Intercalifornias Goes straight from the Santa Ana bus depot straight to the border with no stops.

Tres Estrellas is identical to Intercalifornias regarding prices, times, and services, except that Intercalifornias can take you to the TJ airport but Tres Estrellas is more punctual.

I just came back from Tijuana lot of fun in Hong Kong bar and adelita no problem at all price are still same as 3 months ago and passport are not requier for perminent resident yet.
