Don't spend too much on those Cuban cigars as they are 100 phonies. A friend disputed this because of the official looking cigar bands and government tax stamps on the box. Last time that I returned from Havana I brought him a few hundred tax stamps and bands so he could make his own like the Mexicans do. I posted this in the crimes thread but I figure it would be a good idea to post it here as well.

On May 3rd, a new law went into effect in Tijuana that made driving a vehicle with tinted windows illegal with nasty fines and major hassles if you are stopped.

"Tinted Window" means any car window that has surface applied plastic tinting material of any kind or color. This includes the back window and the rear side windows.

Standard factory tint is, of course, exempt but any type of pastic film applied tot he surface of the glass is now illegal.

It applies to every vehicle driving on the streets in Tijuana, whether it came from the USA or anywhere else. You MUST remove the tint, otherwise they will write you a $50 ticket and enter your plate into a database. If you refuse to remove the tint on the spot when you are stopped, you get the ticket. You can get another ticket 5 minutes later if you are stopped by a different cop.

As I travel around TJ, I encounter many checkpoints where people are pulled over and removing their tint. IF you have no plates and registration, the car goes to the pound.

This is serious stuff and TJPD are enforcing this new law, so think twice before driving into TJ with tinted glass. Leave the car State-side or remove the tint.

Have you heard any word about some of the nicer TJ restaurants being held up at gun point, and customers robbed? An interesting article about restaurants working with the TJ police to install panic buttons to get a quicker TJ response. Not sure if that'll do any good. Just curious if the likes of Cheripan have been hit.

I have not heard of any robberies at Cheripan, nor have I seen anything bad happen there. You are right about the other restaurants in the lot that surrounds Cheripan. They are all very good.

When I go by myself, I usually spend about $30.00usd. When I go with a chica, I spend about $45.00. Everytime I go, I have to have a doggie bag to finish my steak, the next day.

Like I said before, it is a little past Plaza Rio so it's best to take a taxi there. Like Alguem said, if you take a chica, make sure she doesn't dress like a puta. Very upscaled restaurant.
