Hi All:

Would welcome your thoughts / recommendations.

I have been reading the posts and the 2 options have pros and cons.

Walking, Pros: quick to get across both ways, don't have to worry about a car. Cons: The possible problems with FMM and cost, Cost of parking if driving to border, dealing with taxis, limited mobility.

Driving: Pros: seems to be easier to get through to Mexico, perceived more flexibility of getting around in Tijuana. Cons: Cost of mexican insurance, border wait coming back to US; and the actually driving in Mexico.

I may be missing something, but this is how I see it. Trying to decide which alternative makes most financial and time sense. Don't want to sit for 2 hrs coming back to the US but not sure if walking is that good of an option.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

An unstamped FFM is the least of your worries in Tijuana. I've been driving into Tijuana for about 40 years and I've never even had one nor been asked for one.

I agree that should be the least of his worries. I've never used an FFM, but it looks like that may change in future trips.

Working from San Diego for a few days so was in Tijuana Wednesday night. Had the online FMM printed out with a valid passport. For the first time since I've been using online FMMs, a Mexican customs official tried to pressure me into paying a "fee" to have my FMM stamped LOL (the official was a younger Mexican male that I'd never seen before). He wanted to charge $35, a "fee" denomination I'd never heard before (usually only hear of people paying either $20 or $30). I feigned shock that he would try to charge me and (truthfully) explained that I've always in the past gotten through customs without paying a fee with the online FMM if I was staying less than 7 days (I told them I'd be staying for 6). After just a few more seconds of polite back and forth he and the other customs official that was there let me go through without paying anything but warned me that "next time" I'd have to pay LOL.

The part that worries me about this incident is they let me go through without actually stamping the FMM. The last 2-3 times I've gone though Mexican customs they've now just been waving me through without actually stamping the form. I guess I'm maybe worried about the off-chance Tijuana policia stop me and use the fact that my FMM is unstamped as a reason to detain me. I'm thinking this doesn't actually happen in practice in Tijuana BUT I've heard horror stories on YouTube about an increase in foreigners being stopped by policia in other parts of Mexico (e. G. , Cabo / Cancun) and detained for days / weeks / months due to overstaying the number of days on their FMM or not having the FMM properly stamped. Presumably the increase of FMM enforcement is due to stricter USA Border policies over the past several years resulting in more Mexicans being similarly detained in the USA Again, I'm thinking in Tijuana they probably don't due this due to the sheer number of American visitors, and I've never been stopped / searched by a Tijuana cop before, but am worried that they COULD detain me if they really wanted to if my FMM isn't properly stamped?

I just get the $30 180 day FMM. Every time I've been pulled over in Tijuana, they just want to know how much money you have and sometimes just have to fork over a 500 peso note and on my way. Also have been to Cancun and Cabo driving and pulled over, but never asked for my FMM even though I have a 180 day FMM in my wallet. I guess if it was a checkpoint specifically looking for valid FMM, then could possibly be detained if you don't have valid one on hand, but not sure how they wouldn't just charge a "fine" to be on your way. They know once media gets notice and it impacts tourism, then the government will either have to better inform the tourist or be more relaxed on policy for tourists to pay the fee and get a valid FMM.

Ok I know what your talking about I think it's the green and tan vans then. I will try it in June when I finally move to San Diego. I only took the red vans that go down to the grand hotel from the Carls Jr but I'll start taking the 10 peso van outside the gate since I will be going more often when I move there.

The taxi van I took Wednesday night from the border was white and yellow. It dropped me off at the intersection of Revolucion and Carillo Puerto, which is right across the street from Mamut Brewery on Revolucion. From there a 5-7 minute walk to Zona Norte. Would confirm the van is going to Revolucion before getting in.

I am in 70's and mongered in Asia and SA and Europe from 40's. First time in Tijuana, and in half day with some Levitra had good experience with Two nice girls separately. For your first time just go to Hong Kong Gentleman's club or HK, I am sure you will find a girl that will meet your needs. Usually the lookers arrive after 7 pm and the chicas have to post up in Las Chevalas for on hour so you can go there or you can scout it out by the stairs leading upstairs o the dressing rooms next to the DJ booth. If you know the way, you can also make the 20-25 minute walk (a little over a mile) to Zona Norte sometimes if you're up for it. I've done it a couple times during the day and it's a safe, straightforward walk. Wouldn't recommend making the walk late at night though I've (very foolishly) also done that (without incident).

Don't recall the color of the van. I can check when I'm back in Tijuana later this week. But the vans are tough to miss. Once you get through Mexican customs and go through the outside turnstile into Tijuana, make a left and the 10 peso vans will be right there waiting to fill up their seats. Just confirm with the driver that the van is going near Avenida Revolucion. The entirety of Avenida Revolucion is Zona Centro, even the portion that's near Zona Norte. The van drops you off like a block from Revolucion and you can walk from there up to Revolucion and then down to Zona Norte. I've done this a few times during the day when I don't have luggage. Forget the best stop to get off at but it's definitely the most economical way to get to Zona Norte.

BTW if you want to avoid the border line come back at 3-5 am. The line starts earlier on weekdays. I have not done this in over a year so hope the info still accurate.

Yes people use to take advtange but the police enforce it. The police kicked a bunch of people around us out of the line. They knew who paid and the polce just walked past us.

I am offering the info up here. Take it for what you will. If you pay the police are cool with it. If you do not pay expect to be kicked out by the police. Have been told people were arrested for not paying and that is why non-payers stopped.

LOL. Hadez. The $20 to get escorted to the front of the line is a scam, bro. It's a scam that usually "works" as far as getting you to the front of the line, but it's a scam nonetheless. I fell for it once because I didn't know the details. Guy comes up to me last year offering to have me bypass everyone in front of me and get me through the line much quicker for $20. I countered with $10 and he quickly accepted. I'm thinking he's going to put me in a van or something like that so I can get through quicker but he simply escorts me to the near the front of the line and then walked away. I mean I guess it worked as far as me getting to the front of the line but all he was was some random guy and we were cutting the line without any approval. Felt bad about it afterwards and haven't done it again, though I guess it worked. But it's not something that's allowed and you could in theory get sent to the back of the line or perhaps even arrested for it.
