I hear ya. Colombia is big on my list but I also learned a bit more about it thanks to Luke's video he recently did. (see link below). Not only would I probably need to go with a wingman but. Perhaps get a driver or some local who can take you around. I really did not get the feeling that I could just go on my own. Or with a buddy and feel comfortable. (maybe I am wrong). But watch Luke's great video and see what your take is. Gringo's are big time minorities down there so just a bit more worried. And need to plan out the trip well.

You guys are spoiled living in San Diego and LA. Sorry Mexico is way better then MDE. Go to the other cities in Mexico first you will have a great time. MDE is way over rated, Bogota does seem to be better, but I was only there briefly.

Cancun is a very popular vacation city. There are lots nonstop flights from Cancun to most other cities, including LAX, everyday.

To minimize airtime and layovers, we can fly the long route non stop from LAX to Cancun, open jaw return from GDL to LAX:

LAX to Cancun, return GDL to LAX via Delta or Jet Blue $238.

Then take short Regional flights nonstop to cities in Colombia and Mexico:

CUN to MEDELLIN.

Medellin to Bogota.

Bogota to CDMX.

CDMX to Monterrey .

Monterrey to Guadalajara

GDL to LAX by delta or Jet Blue total $384.

Total $622 plus about $200 airport tax. We can visit 6 major monger cities quickly with all non stop flights. We can go in Sept or October when the weather cools down.

When I was on Midway in 1991 we were tied up at North Island Naval Air Station and at the time there were some fun local places not too expensive. I watched a dozen hours of live streaming of Colombia this year from gringos, who were hanging out where the woman work, but weren't into that themselves. Wanderer nirvana was out drinking in the street every night with any local he could find he can get along and drink with bums. He had a GF for a few weeks and a lot of girls were around talking to him, he did get jumped lost phone from that. Could you go and find girls yourself and not get attacked? I'm sure. But it's not as safe as HK and Adelitas. Just from looking I would equate it to the safety of hanging out on the streets between Hong Kong and the arch, after 10 pm. The water is murky, loaded with raw sewage and industrial discharges, washed up from the Tijuana river and La Playa. The sand is brown with organic waste. I would not even dip my toes into it.

There are plenty nice, clean, healthy beaches further North.

I don't know any surfers who ever talk about Coronado or imperial beach. Both are often contaminated with Tijuana river run off, although summer is the driest part of the year so if you want those beaches then summer is your best bet. The water may be polluted and Mexico won't tell USA of sewage leaks for a week or two. Most people do ocean beach San Diego, Pacific beach, or blacks beach.

In San Diego county, the quality of the ocean water is checked daily. Samples of water collected along the coast from Imperial Beach to Camp Pendleton in Oceanside are tested in the laboratory. In the event of a problem with ocean water, they send an alert to the webpage link here http://www.sdbeachinfo.com/ (green colors are ok and red is not good) and the beach and life guard puts warning notices on the beach. In Imperial Beach, there is sometimes a problem after rain. Near the fishing pier at Imperial Beach during the season there is an abundance of mackerel. One guy caught 50 mackerel in one hour! You can also see dolphins jumping and sometimes even sharks.

If you pop 3 or 4 girls a night, cost for HK girls and Cascada rooms can add up quickly. There are risks that some HK girls may be difficult and ornery in bed, restricting access, ending short, making session unsexy and unpleasant. I had three problems with the street girls. The first was practical. I do not like large women. "Mucho carne" (which some guys swear they love) looks like "una gran cantidad de grasa" (a lot of fat) to me. Hey all. Have any of you been able to cross boarder WITHOUT a passport recently without trouble?

Just found out my fuckin passport is expired and with covid delays, it'll take like 10-12 weeks to renew without me having to shell out an additional $500 to expedite.

Chances of it working with just a drivers license or something? Does Cascada enforce passport to check in?

Appreciate any help here.

Cascadas makes you pay for room at check-in.

They don't ask for ID when you pay for room with cash. They say they want to preserve your privacy, etc.

They only asked for drivers license when paying for room with credit card and they will make a copy of your driver license.

The beach in Coronado is mostly visited by tourists. These beach condos cost a million dollars and a night at the Del Coronado Hotel is over $ 300 / night. I prefer Imperial Beach, the more easy going beach. Lots of surfers, long fishing pier, two beer gardens like Hess / City tacos and Coronado. Several restaurants like: Thai, Mexican, Pizza etc. And a few bars. Even a new hotel. You can take the city bus ($ 2. 50) to Imperial Beach fishing pier from Palm Ave trolley station. (Beware of the stingrays sometimes in the ocean use the "stingray shuffle".

Last summer I had no passport and walked into Mexico 5 times. I walked through otay since it's only 1 line, Mexicans and non Mexicans. 1st time, nobody talked to me, 2nd, they wanted 20 bucks, made him walk me back to USA side as I wouldn't pay, 3rd time, 4th, 5th I paid the 20 each time in san Ysidro. So yeah if your going only once, for 6 months, better to say you left your passport home. Save 10 bucks. That's if your just doing Tijuana and not seeing other places in Mexico.

Yes. The bastards are still doing the shakedown. This whole Covid 'non essential' travel block is a huge income bonanza for them.

Laughing as I type this but the last time I visited back in May, I actually created a fake dental appointment confirmation e-mail to show the customs officials in case they required "proof" that I was going to see a dentist. Sent the confirmation from a spoof gmail account I'd just created the day before. Many of the dental offices in Tijuana operate gmail / yahoo accounts anyway. But they never asked for it and I was let through free with my valid passport.
