Only Chihuahua is excluded because restriction now applies only to states with high coronavirus risk.

    Published on Tuesday, April 20,2021.

Starting Thursday, people in the United States will be permitted to enter Mexico for nonessential purposes via land crossings in all but one of the country's six northern border states.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) said on Twitter that the ban on nonessential land travel from the United States to Mexico will remain in place until 11:59 pm On May 21 but only in border states that are high-risk orange or maximum-risk red on the federal government's coronavirus stoplight map.

Of the six states, Coahuila, Nuevo LEand and Tamaulipas are currently low-risk green, Baja California and Sonora are medium-risk yellow and Chihuahua is orange.

As of 12:00 am Thursday, when the current restrictions expire, people will be free to enter Mexico from the United States via crossings in all border states except Chihuahua at least until an updated stoplight map takes effect next Monday and could result in changes to the border states' colors on the map.

Meanwhile, the United States Department of Homeland Security has extended its restrictions on nonessential land travel from Mexico until 11:59 pm On May 21..
    Then I stand corrected.

Tijuana is definitely not MDE. In Tijuana girls have no butt. If they do, it is either fake or very expensive. But in these times of covid, it is still better than the US.

Meanwhile, the United States Department of Homeland Security has extended its restrictions on nonessential land travel from Mexico until 11:59 pm On May 21.

"The restriction suspends the entry into the United States via land border, ferry crossing, rail, or through coastal ports of entry from Canada and / or Mexico, as immigrants or nonimmigrants for any travel that is not deemed essential," says a statement issued by USA Customs and Border Protection on Monday.

The SRE said that Mexico and the United States are in talks to ease cross-border travel restrictions depending on coronavirus infection rates on both sides of the border.

Some Twitter users expressed anger that people in the United States will largely be able to cross into Mexico for nonessential purposes while Mexicans won't be able to do the same in the opposite direction.

"Why can American citizens freely enter and leave our country without any restriction? Are they immune to Covid? Since the pandemic started, there have been no restrictions for them, only for us, the Mexican citizens," tweeted one person, apparently referring to reports that USA Travelers haven't been stopped from entering Mexico for nonessential purposes.

The SRE also announced that the ban on nonessential travel into Mexico via the southern border would continue until May 21.

While the restrictions on nonessential travel across the northern border were introduced more than a year ago, the southern border ban only took effect a month ago.

The difference is the rate of vaccinations. Very few people in Mexico were vaccinated whereas in the US we are at around 50% and getting closer to herd immunity. A third wave is in the forecast in summer in Mexico but not in the US.

    Why take the chance?

I checked on the Volaris Website and they state for domestic travel a valid ID is required, and for International travel a Passport. Still trying to see what AeroMexico's policy is.

So to rephrase my question, has anyone flown domestically within Mexico and shown another form of ID besides a Passport.

And thanks for all the responses thus far.
Surfer I have not traveled without my passport book. One time I was in a hurry and left the house without my passport book and was in freeway traffic when I realized it. I leave my passport card in my car all the time so I had a decision to make. Take the chance that I will be able to fly with just the card or risk being late and go back and get my book. I went back for the book and was happy I did as I had a feeling I would have a hard time getting on the plane without it. My opinion is that the people looking at passports will be confused by the card and not think it's real.

So my question is why are you so hesitant about the book? Once in your destination just keep it in hotel lock box or somewhere secure and use the card as ID to walk around with. That's what I do and never have been questioned.

Good luck and sorry I couldn't have a more precise answer for you.

Sucks because I only brought $100 with me so I ran out of money quickly with only $70 in La Zona.

The essential travel rule does not appear to be lifted.

There is no COVID test requirement for crossing the border by land.

If someone could answer this question for me and help. If I go to Tijuana whether walk in or by vehicle, then come back- do they do a temperature check? Or some type of screening? The next question is regarding the FMM, I used to get the six month one but haven't been in a while. Any advice on this?

    Thanks in Advance.
Since you are asking questions about official documents, your best bet is to refer to the official government sources that issued those documents.

I guarantee that you will get an up to date definitive answer.
