Just crossed into Tijuana within the hour. The border headed south is like a ghost town. I have never seen it this dead. 2 PM on a Friday. Guess the town is still hung over. LOL.

Yes, but no one has pulled me into a room yet. It's just more questions than usual for me but I know how to spin a lie. The dental appointment excuse is way overdone and I'm not surprised that your friend got pulled aside like many others using that excuse. I just pretend I'm a technician for a local company or the college labs and I need to head down to my hotel the day before because I have to be at my "location" early. Unique excuse that the border agents have not heard before and Its not a complete lie since I am an engineer so I just have to speak technical and describe in enough detail for them to believe me.
