My question, once again, is, are the exchange rates on the US side of the border at ATM's significantly different.

They cambio rates were pretty consistent both sides a shade over 20 (as of last Thursday). No significant difference worth inconveniencing yourself chasing pennies.

Thanks, but not really what I was asking. I have bought pesos many times at the toursit exchange windows; however, I always feel like and idiot and prefer to get the always higher rate from an ATM, which usually disperse money at the bank exchange rate. There is a BER for both buying and selling currency. The mid market exchange rate is the mean of these. Usually, you get a better BER from a local (in this case Mexican) machine; however, I believe I'ver read on this forum that is not the case for the ATM's right at the border. I usually try to mostly use my credit card in Tijuana as the transactions occur in MXP and are resolved at the BER. The actual rate I pay is, of course, the BER minus any bank fees.

You bring cash to the windows of the money exchange places. They give you pesos. Get smallest denominations they will let you. Take a 20 to another window. You need small bills in mexico people don't do change like in USA. 500 pesso is tough to get rid of. Even hotels I owed 500 pesos to did t want it. The difference of each place is fairly minimal to be worried about. But more bang for the buck on USA side. But near hk is a place 500 feet away and if you just grabbing 100 bucks it's no big deal difference wise.

Below is a list of daily budgets and what you might get for you budget. All budgets assume your staying overnight in a hotel so your in Tijuana 24/7 from the start to the finish of your vacation.

$50.

This is a bare bones budget. You will need to stay out of the zona at a really cheap $15-18 hotel. You'll have a budget for 1 SG and will have to eat at cheap local restaurants or taco stands and have just a few drinks at cheap regular bars.

$100.

You can stay at either Jalos (Chicago Club) or Adelitas Bar hotel. You should be able to have at least 2 possible 3 SGs a day. You could have 1 meal at Azul or Al Capones and some taco from a taco stand. Still probably want to avoid the bars at this budget range.

$150.

This would be enough daily budget for everything above but you could have 1 bar girl a day in addition to a street girl and could do a little drinking and tipping, but should avoid buying fischas.

$200.

You could upgrade to a weekday rate room at Cascades or Rizo De Orzo. You could eat a couple meals at Restaurant Azul. You could do 1 bar girl & 2 SGs a day. You can buy a few fischas a day and tip more at the bars.

$300.

Your up to the point where you could do 2 bar girls a day and also 1-2 SGs. You could eat all your meals at Azul and even splurge for a steak or two. You can buy more discuss but still not too many. Your also looking at a room with Jacuzzi at a zona hotel.

$500.

You could do almost an unlimited amount of SGs or 3-4 Bar girls and could start to consider doing doubles on a daily basis. You can eat or drink whatever you want assuming you not intending to buy a bottle. Any serious arriba candidate could buy a Fuchs for. You can definitely negotiate extended dates at this budget.

$1,000.

You could basically buy any bar girl you fancy a fischa and make out with and grope all day and night long. You could pretty much take up a bar girl every couple hours and maybe even do multiple doubles in a day. Depending on what hotel room you get, how much you eat & drink, and how many fischas you but. You could have anywhere from 5-10 Bar girls a day. This budget & even the $500 budget is pretty absurd for Tijuana.

Generally I think a $200-$300 budget a day is good and enough to have ample fun in Tijuana.

I've had many nights where I went for my hotel $11 at the time, $7 for tips for girls, 2 $ cleaning room tip, $6 for tacos at night, then tacos at border crossing, 4 for 1 beer, 2 more free beers, $3 beer tip, $13 lap dance. So about $50. No sex but 4 hours of fun. Of course I wander to revolution for free. And that's with the vip card but I get my money out of that in first month. I think hotels went up in price right. Before covid though. I'll probably start driving and border parking and just going home after. I do spend money though at times, maybe 1/3rd time a bar girl and if I know the girl I'll buy her drinks and skip lap dance. If she's really good I'll buy her 3 drinks. Usually I'm bored anyway by then.

Question to the veterans. I am thinking of getting a apartment in Tijuana or near the border for 5 or 6 months. I don't see myself getting hired back at my job until next year. Is there a nice safe apartment complex or 2 that I can check out that is well known that I could live. I need american standards maybe gated community for 500 or less. Looking for the equivalent of a Hotel Ticuan for apartments. Not the cheapest but modern and nice. Are there a few well known places that comes to mind that all the veterans know about.

OK. Let's make sure we understand this. You're looking for an apartment, built to American standards, in a gated community, modern and nice, for $500/ month? Or less?? Surely you're joking. And yes, I'll call you Shirley.

You'll find nothing north of the border for under $1600/ month and that will be a dive shithole. Figure around $3 K / month for anything decent.

That leaves Tijuana. There are small, unfurnished Studio and 1 BR rentals available for under $500 near Rosarito, and, of course, in the further-flung areas of Tijuana. None will be built to "American standards. " Very few will be in a gated community, although some may have security. Nicer apartments and condos, in nicer areas like Zona Rio, will run at least $1 K / month, although that may include furniture.

I think you need to reevaluate your budget and do more research. Craigslist is a good resource for gauging the prices of rentals in Tijuana.
