Posts: 603New Ped East Building is Nice
It's been open about 3 weeks now. Not sure if it was mentioned here but if you have been using the Ped West and tired of walking the extra distance back over the freeway to the trolley give it a shot. It was a breeze crossing back even on Labor Day around 4 pm.

* 11/20/2011 9:00:00 AM TIJUANA. - A security guard from the Hong Kong bar in the North Zone died when he was shot this morning by a man who showed up as an employee of municipal judges of the City Council.
The attack occurred around 03:00 hours in one of the entrances to the building located between the avenue and the Coahuila alley.
The employees arrested the person identified as "El Bazuca", a former boxer, who was seized by a 9-millimeter pistol.
The Municipal Police arrived at the place and was at the disposal of the person in charge, who revealed that around 23:00 on Saturday he wanted to enter the bar by force.
He was denied entrance and when he got angry, he was stopped by municipal policemen who are watching the area, but at dawn he returned "El Bazuca" and attacked the guard who was taken to a hospital, where he died later.
Unofficially informed the authorities that the person responsible said he was an employee of the City Council to try to enter the bar, which is why he was arrested the first time. The place after the incident is closed. (sba)".

To Asting,
May be 5 years ago, a guy, who claimed to be a big shot at City Hall, showed up at HK's back door and was refused entry by the young security manager. He was insulted, threatened the guy then returned after midnight with a gun. He shot the young guy to death at HK's back door. Policia immediately arrested him as he ran East in the alley. Never heard how that case turned out.
HK's security guys know their targets. They are well trained and very good at keeping bad guys out of the club, stopping fights, restraining and evicting aggressive guys so everyone can have good, relaxed, sexy times. If a fight breaks out in the club, within a split second half dozen security guys and meseros would be piling on top of the aggressive parties, tackling them down on the floor, put them in head locks and drag them out of the club. I have seen it happen a few times right next to me at the stage.
There are dramas around the clubs occasionally. You should see a bar girl with a big bump in her stomach, crying hysterically, trying to get inside the club to pin it on some guy. The burly security guy was calm and quiet, gently blocking her entry with his big belly without uttering a word hehe. I admired the guy for his grace in handling such an emotional situation hehe.

Posts: 657Tijuana Ranked 22 in Violent Cities.
"Four USA Towns ranked among the world's most dangerous, according to the council's ranking. Some had higher murder rates than non-USA Cities with notoriously unsavory reputations (at least among some Americans), such as Cali, Colombia; Kingston, Jamaica; or Tijuana, Mexico. (St. Louis, MO is ranked No. 14, or much more dangerous than Tijuana at No. 22) https://www.cheatsheet.com/culture/m...the-list.html/.
As far as being normal, the area in and around HK are "Gun Free Zones" which are what attackers prefer, according to the Crime Prevention Research Center. 97.8 percent of mass shootings since 1950 have taken place in "Gun Free Zones" https://crimeresearch.org/2018/06/mo...ass-shootings/.
If you are worried, you can buy a cheap bullet proof vest on Ebay, which you can also use when visiting St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit, Juarez, Caracas or other adventure vacation cities.

Of course HK management tried to deny it, not good for the business. After that incident they're starting to implement the pat down patrons policy.

I assume the jealous lady came out onto the street because the exchange with cops definitely was outside. After it happened it was hard to see what was going on.
Still not great to think of bullets flying in the street and clubs!

Was having dinner in Azul's (restaurant attached to Cascadas) sitting on the terrace when I heard five shots crack out. Loud not far away. Everyone ran for cover, crouching behind the bar.
I had been chatting to an American guy opposite me and he didn't see the first one, but said he saw two policemen return fire, two shots each.
Don't know what happened but seems some guy shot at the police they tokk him out. On the street behind HK. WTF!
Ton of police cars arrived after that closed the street etc. So I figured it was about as safe it gets then.
I like a walk on the wild side but. There are limits!
Is this normal for Tijuana. Its only my second visit!
