But, there was a serious incident a while back. (Guessing it was about a year ago.) A few gringos were waiting around for uber and told some taxi drivers just that. Well, at least one ended up in the hospital. It was a widely reported incident and I'm sure you can find details with a google search. It led to some significant changes and ended a semi-monopoly for the yellow cabs. I never experienced anything like that but I was never a big fan of how the yellow taxis were very aggressive immediately after crossing the border.
I have used it a few times too. Knowing the problem with taxi drivers, I always waited in an area across the street that was away from taxi drivers.

Now, there is a taxi line that is generally observed. You can certainly get one outside the line but if you are looking for absolute safety, that's what I'd recommend. Uber saves you about $2. And uber drivers are generally less of a scam artist than taxi drivers. But I've never had anything but good experiences in the taxis. In fact, most are very helpful and interesting, in my experience. I think if you just converse with them a bit, even in my very broken Spanish, that helps. Don't advertise it's your first visit and you'll be fine.

    As Phordphan says, no.

However, taxis are available after a very short walk from the crossing.

While nothing is guaranteed, if you take the first taxi you see, you have great odds of getting to the hotel safely.

Request a medical fast pass for the border. Hit HK or other favorite clubs to gargle with alcohol and disinfect your teeth and throat thoroughly a second (or more) times. When sober the next day, leave your hotel with the fast pass, go to the special bypass lane that takes you to the front of the line. For those who need to cross quickly and need their teeth cleaned, this method works great!

Three times northbound in a car for me so far. Once was 45 minutes (Fri early evening), the next 3. 5 hours (Sun eve), the time after that exactly 1 hour (Tues lunchtime). When we were in the 3. 5 hour queue we were next to the medical lane and it was moving at the same rate as us. So not always quicker.

    Cambios

I've done it numerous times in less than 1 minute.

Sometimes there's a line, and then it might take as long as 2 or 3 minutes. I would pass on a long line since, on my walks, there are always other cambios with tiny or no lines.
While exchanges in Texas and Europe just give me a funny look at best, a San Ysidro cambio took effort to go above and beyond on small things. Once.

I handed over a was of $20's to a ypung lady who probably marked me as monger right off the bat. She counted, crunched her calculator, and instead of finalizing the price, does more crunching looks at me and says in English.

"Sir, do you have a quarter, because this as-is is going to give you a peso amount that ends in #996.90 mxp and that's a LOT of small coins and bills you probably don't want. If I can get an extra $0. 17 I can round it up to an even amount with straight big bills. ".

So I handed over a quarter, in one pile she gave back $0. 08 and in another pile she gave me a stack of 200 and 100 peso bills. Again only in SY / Tijuana do they aid in your exchanging.

Aging Prostitutes Find Champion in Mexico City Mayor.

Critics Say Populist Trying to Curry Favor.

Mexico City- Cataracts cloud her eyes and arthritis stiffens her spine, but Maria Luisa Torres, 70, still walks the streets of the Merced selling her body, as do many elderly women in the downtown neighborhood, where just about everything is available for a price.

"Would I like a change in life? Yes," said Torres, with a lipstick-stained cigarette stub in her wrinkled hand and her beige stockings held up with rubber bands. But after working as a prostitute for four decades -- or maybe five, she can't quite recall -- it is not so easy to stop now.

Maria Luisa Torres, 70, has worked as a prostitute for four, or maybe five decades -- she can't quite recall. She looks forward to living in a new public shelter. (Mary Jordan -- The Washington Post).

Among the thousands of prostitutes in North America's largest city are hundreds of women in their sixties, seventies and eighties who continue to sell themselves to earn cash to buy food or medicine, according to women's groups. Now, an unusual project to house some of them in a public shelter is drawing attention not only to their numbers but also to the social policies of embattled Mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who recently turned over a building to the prostitutes.

Lopez Obrador has built a huge base of support among the disenfranchised since he took office in 2000. In addition to building houses for the poor, he has established monthly cash payments and public transportation discounts for the elderly, medical assistance for the disabled and economic support for single mothers. He has fixed streets and parks, spent lavishly on public works projects aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and even turned over the spacious city-owned building to aging prostitutes.

    Fast Border Crossing Without Sentri.

    To Travv.

When that Medical lane is manned, it would put users somewhat ahead of the long waiting lines, but into the Ready lanes to wait. Most times that post is not manned. I have not seen anyone use it for years.

If your passengers have no SENTRI card, the SENTRI driver can drop them off near the pedestrian lines to walk across while they drive over and wait near the J I be. After midnight the SENTRI driver would cross in 5 minutes and the pedestrian in 10 to 15. In the morning SENTRI would take 10-15 minutes and pedestrian 15 min to half hour. It would still be much quicker than waiting in the car in the regular or ready lanes.

I started to ask that when I was there a couple of weeks ago. After not being able to figure it out, I just hopped in a taxi and paid the usual 50 pesos.

Great information, I have done the same thing several times, but driving. Does it work walking? I have a Sentri Card, but friend does not.
