Anyone think of or actually move to Tijuana? How would one look for and find a cheap apartment?

Look on Tijuana craigslist real estate section and trovit.com. You should be able to find a decent, low-American standard 1 bedroom for around $200 dls / month. You can also walk or drive around Tijuana looking for "SE RENTA" signs. You'll find quite a few if you look. First thing I recommend doing is changing the locks. Those Defiant brand locks and deadbolts that everyone uses down here are beyond cheap and useless. The insides are all plastic and you can break into one in less than 3 seconds with zero tools. You might as well use Scotch tape to secure your door. Bite the bullet and pay $200 for a Medeco which is unpickable.

My experience: 100% provided GFE, including DFK and BBBJ. Only my opinion, but I put Greys, Foxy's Queen's and Adult Baja on a notch below the others. I do not regularly frequent them and maybe I just had a bad apple. But those experiences did not quite match other agencies. Others certainly have preferences but just my two pesos. (Keep in mind, many other agencies do not go to Cascadas).

And if you rent a room at Cascadas, it's yours. Then it's up to you to negotiate time with the chica. Read this forum though. There is some information on punitive actions against the chicas if they are gone from the club for an extended time.

* Food: Had all my meals at Azul or Caesars. Both exceeded expectations. Didn't try taco stand due to fear of stomach issues.

* Escort trial: Picked a girl from Grey's girl for afternoon fun (Fernanda). She was amazingly hot and quite young. However, there wasn't much passion and she was very passive. She wasn't ok with LFK / DFK or DATY, both of which are requirements for GFE in my mind. Paid 1500 pesos for an hour including tip.

Thank you all for the wonderful information on this forum. I finally got a chance to spent a night in Tijuana last month, and had a great time. I had only 1 day, so tried to maximize the activities. Next trip should be more focussed.

* Adelitas: Club was significantly more darker than HK, and I didn't like the vibe. Girl selection was nice. I picked a tall girl with perfect proportions, and paid 1300 pesos. Service was ok.

For next time, I am definitely going to stay in Cascadas due to proximity and savings on room charge. A couple of things that I am still curious about:

- What fraction of girls actually provide true GFE from these escort agencies? I'd like to try Foxys or Queens as they send girls to Zona, but want to be sure about service quality.

- If I stay in Cascadas (say, Master Suite), can I hope to keep the girl in my room longer than typical 30 minutes, and preferably in the jacuzzi? How do I negotiate for this?

I have used it a few times too. Knowing the problem with taxi drivers, I always waited in an area across the street that was away from taxi drivers.

I'm an Uber driver here in Tijuana, if you stand on the designated area for pick ups and drop offs you shouldn't have a problem with the taxi cabs, the area is the one around the corner from the taxi line which would be right in front of you when you're coming from San Ysidro.

As they say, YMMV. And I know I'm probably on borrowed time when it comes to trouble. But there are times I've sat around for an hour in the area right around the border crossing. (Old pedestrian. East).

I would sit around and wait for my "GF" to pick me up. Had a blast people watching and have never felt unsafe there. (NO monger activity there, but just interesting, to me.) There are a couple limited hotspots if you walk to the farmacia right there. You won't watch netflix there but for me it's been just enough to send off a few emails and get an uber.

Keep in mind, cell service at the border can either not work or take 25 minutes to convert. Due to this I've never been able to use user from border to anyplace. I have to jump on the bus go to revolution to get away from the border. And you do not want to be standing outside the border for long. If you want the bus, go to the trolley border the bus is every two minutes. The other bus can take 25 minutes. Anytime you are standing still outside in streets in Tijuana you are noticed, by everyone from drug dealers to police to beggars, to muggers.

Chose to park in $15 a day lot across from san ysidro new border crossing. So the street parking options downside is busted windows LOL. Otay Mesa $10 lot and Groupon SD airport deal looks like best options to save on parking unless you own or know someone that owns a parking spot in San Ysidro that you can use LOL.

But, there was a serious incident a while back. (Guessing it was about a year ago.) A few gringos were waiting around for uber and told some taxi drivers just that. Well, at least one ended up in the hospital. It was a widely reported incident and I'm sure you can find details with a google search. It led to some significant changes and ended a semi-monopoly for the yellow cabs. I never experienced anything like that but I was never a big fan of how the yellow taxis were very aggressive immediately after crossing the border.

Now, there is a taxi line that is generally observed. You can certainly get one outside the line but if you are looking for absolute safety, that's what I'd recommend. Uber saves you about $2. And uber drivers are generally less of a scam artist than taxi drivers. But I've never had anything but good experiences in the taxis. In fact, most are very helpful and interesting, in my experience. I think if you just converse with them a bit, even in my very broken Spanish, that helps. Don't advertise it's your first visit and you'll be fine.

However, taxis are available after a very short walk from the crossing.

While nothing is guaranteed, if you take the first taxi you see, you have great odds of getting to the hotel safely.

For those without a Sentri Card, you can still cross without waiting hours in line. Go to Washington Dental Clinic on Revolucion across from Sanborns and park in their lot. Washington Dental is authorized to issue medical fast passes to their clients, which I believe are dated when issued and are good for three days. Have your teeth cleaned for $20. Request a medical fast pass for the border. Hit HK or other favorite clubs to gargle with alcohol and disinfect your teeth and throat thoroughly a second (or more) times. When sober the next day, leave your hotel with the fast pass, go to the special bypass lane that takes you to the front of the line. For those who need to cross quickly and need their teeth cleaned, this method works great!

The big problem is the delay for crossing back. If you have SENTRI / GLOBAL ENTRY it takes only 5 to 10 minutes, but usually 3 to 4 hours in ready lanes at all time day or night. I always see the long lines of cars waiting at 2, 3 AM and shudder how people can live with that.

Three times northbound in a car for me so far. Once was 45 minutes (Fri early evening), the next 3. 5 hours (Sun eve), the time after that exactly 1 hour (Tues lunchtime). When we were in the 3. 5 hour queue we were next to the medical lane and it was moving at the same rate as us. So not always quicker.

How long do you think it takes to walk into a Cambio and buy pesos?

I've done it numerous times in less than 1 minute.

Sometimes there's a line, and then it might take as long as 2 or 3 minutes. I would pass on a long line since, on my walks, there are always other cambios with tiny or no lines.

While exchanges in Texas and Europe just give me a funny look at best, a San Ysidro cambio took effort to go above and beyond on small things. Once.

I handed over a was of $20's to a ypung lady who probably marked me as monger right off the bat. She counted, crunched her calculator, and instead of finalizing the price, does more crunching looks at me and says in English.

"Sir, do you have a quarter, because this as-is is going to give you a peso amount that ends in #996.90 mxp and that's a LOT of small coins and bills you probably don't want. If I can get an extra $0. 17 I can round it up to an even amount with straight big bills. ".

So I handed over a quarter, in one pile she gave back $0. 08 and in another pile she gave me a stack of 200 and 100 peso bills. Again only in SY / Tijuana do they aid in your exchanging.
