Rizo de Oro is quieter at night, but that is because of how they house their guests.

In the original four story structure, the rooms are all to the east of the oficina. These older rooms are typically rented to the chicas.

They built a separate two-story annex to to the north. To access the north annex you go up a half stairway, take an interior bridge that goes over a back alley, and then walk down half a stairway to the second floor of the annex. Very few, if any, of the rooms in this north annex are rented to the chicas. So when you stay in these rooms you are less likely to be woken in the early morning hours as the chicas talk loudly and clank their zapatos as they return to their rooms after work.

Just around two years ago the Rizo de Oro hotel expanded again when the owner acquired the seven story tower that was built on NE corner of Coahuila and Nino Heroes. The seven story tower has an elevator and its rooms located behind (west of) the oficina and each floor only has six or seven rooms. The tower rooms are probably the quietest late at night and many of the rooms have terrific views.

By comparison, Cascades seems to behave like a three ring circus with much activity and noise in their large hallways during all hours.

Sounds like the Rizo is actually a nicer place to sleep over (noise wise). Now it looks like one has to juggle whether it's more important to have a quiet sleep but have to walk across the street at night (which might not be a big deal) or put up with the noise and just go upstairs with the HK and SGs.

My AT&T iPhone gets pretty good cell phone / data reception in Tijuana near the boarder "zona" area. I've even used it to communicate with locals via Google translate. However, you must call your phone company to disable international roaming, so your signal will always bounce off an USA Tower near the boarder. You can always ask phone company to turn it back on when you are really going aboard.

Phordphan has been on this site for years and has shared a wealth of knowledge about Tijuana and other parts of the world.

He tries his best to provide updated and correct information with his numerous trip reports. He travels and explores outside of La Coahuila. He is a respected and valued member on this site.

As far as your posts, they are really no value for people that are seeking accurate and solid information.

Take some trips to Tijuana, and outside La Coahuila, and then report back. Then, and only then, some other members will respect your posts.

I type this as a recommendation, not as an attack or argument.

You sound like you have to stick to Tijuana and have no experience in good eating but McDonalds and AM PM. Does all you know to eat is "TACOS"?

Let me show you what's having class means my friend. I had the best Peruvian, Argentinian, Italian, Spain and Chinese Mandarin, Chinese Cambodian, and best BBQ you can only dream about. I've been thru every casino restaurant from Reno, Tahoe down to Las Vegas with real chefs that know what fine eating is all about. Eating tacos and tortillas your whole life is what you call great food, sorry but there's more than that.

I like when people think Mexican food is the best, yes maybe because you live in SoCal but sometimes you need to think outside the tortilla. There's no place o restaurant in Tijuana that can compare to a good Mexican restaurant in SoCal. The food there is cheap starting with the low quality cheap beef. Before you comment about good eating you need to educate yourself about world class eating.

Lastly I can give you 100 places for good food you can start by driving 5 and exit in Santa Ana which is little Mexico look around you and you'll find many great restaurants with handmade tortillas and great tasting food.

You keep asking me for my personal experience with Tijuana crime but I don't have one because I'm too smart and I don't walk outside the zona maybe zona rio but I don't wonder like a dumb gringo in a drug war zone. You Can find all Tijuana crime info you need under "Policiaca" section in frontera info, El Mexicano newspaper then maybe then you realize that you're not too smart.

Captain's, or Wing's, or whatever handle he's using these days, directions are a bit muddy. The Mercado de Artesanias is technically located on 2nd and Ocampo, although some would say 2nd and Negrete.

Here's a video link. It's in Spanish but they clearly tell you where it's located. The video is about 4 years old now, so who knows how many vendors are left. But it does give you a good idea of the objets the'art available there.

From the Arch, go 1 block south to 2nd. Go three blocks east to Ocampo. Or, if you're crossing by foot, the first main street you come to, after crossing the bridge west-bound, is Negrete. You can go south on Negrete to 2nd.

Thank you. I definitely did not come across this area last time I was in Tijuana. It was just the shops before the pedestrian bridge I saw, not after. I hope to check this one out.
