They go ape shit whenever their local Soccer Team plays. It's almost like a national holiday.

Believe it or not the celebrations for cinco de mayo are bigger in the USA Than in Mexico. The bigger celebration of independence in Mexico occurs in the middle of September.

Thanks. The map surprised me. I stay in Zona Central and walk to Zona Norte all the way down Avenue Constitucion during daylight. Mostly see families including the elderly and children. There are far fewer beggars and pick-pockets on Constitucion than Revolucion in my experiences.

The map is out of date. That part of Constitucion is fine, especially during the day.

Anybody have any positive experience with it. In the 16 + years of going to Tijuana, have yet to go in and pick one out. They seem to be the more conservative ladies. If that is possible. LOL.

The stretch south, between 1st and 2nd, on Ninos Heroes, shouldn't really be red. It's pretty busy these days, as is the section of 2nd east to Revu.

The map is pretty out of date. Hard Rock has been gone for years, as has Purple Rain.

Father and son owners of Madonna's have been arrested on charges of [CodeWord908], pimping and pandering. Similar charges as Larry O'Neal who owned Nikki's in June last year.

Looks like business has been down for strip bars in Revo for the last few years, so these guys promoted their girls aggressively in Facebook, with pictures of girls in chains driven like animals on the floor. I wonder if Madonna's undignified ways to present its putas pissed off the authority and kicked off their investigation.

It's to be tangled with these serious charges in Mexico.

TIJUANA The Attorney General's Office (PGR) documented that the Israeli Galor Shaltiel sex workers exhibited at the bar "Madonna's" in social networks, not only inside but outside of that business located in the downtown area.

The alien and his son Daniel are identified as business owners set on Fourth Street, between Avenues Constitución. Ambos Revolution and are arrested by the Attorney-General's Office (PGR).

Always take what taxi drivers say with a grain of salt. Drug related killings are up but it's closer to 2 a day, 44 so far in April.

Some people are just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

At one point, tourism was on the rise in Tijuana; but things are reversing that. It is sad because so many hard working people depend on the tourist and frequent visitors such as myself.

My taxi driver said it was due to the recent rise in killings. He said 4-5 per day because of drugs.

That section of Coahuilla East of Constitution should be red. I believe that one of our own was mugged in daylight there, implying that it's being watched by bandits. I see a lot of cars searched while the taxi takes me back to the border using this route. So one may want to avoid driving here as well. LOS Heroes going South is relatively safe because its highly crowded. But yeah, the West side do seem more seedy.

Other than that, the map remains unchange. Of course there is a general rule to avoid areas without people. The locals tend to know when and where the shooting starts. Its a good map and all of us should commit it to memory. Thanks gor posting it.

Yes you are correct HT. My MBGF pays $200 and something for rent. The only insurance she pays is some guy comes to the house once a month to pick up a life insurance payment of around $30. The life insurance thing is ridicules, I think it only pays enough for funeral expenses. Much better plans are available in California.

Last week we went for carryout pizza for the family at Pizza Amor the total came to $43 and some change. WTF for a minute I thought maybe she dates the guy at the counter and they are scaming the gringo.

IMO, the cost of food is cheaper in Mexico if ones eat what the natives eat. If ones want American food, then be prepared to pay a premium because there isn't much competition. That being said, some foods widely abundant in the states are going to be difficult to obtain. Basic foods like milk, etc. I often see Mexicans return to Mexico carrying Milk, presumeably for their kids. Its sad.

Often it seems to be elderly people who can barely walk with arms full of bags or they are dragging a cart full of very simple grocery store items. Like Jackie wrote, they must be things that simply aren't available in Tijuana?

Overall, food prices in Mexico are noticeably lower than the USA. However, some exceptions exist. Fast food tends to be far closer to USA prices than one would think. I suspect a lot of that is due to sourcing the proper ingredients, i.e. the ones specified by the franshisor. In the case of pizza, I suspect the cheese, although I have no evidence. Yes, lots of cheese is available in Mexico, but the European kinds are harder to come by, and I think they're more expensive. In any case, Mexican pizza sucks at any price.

I'm not sure why anybody would lug milk across the border, as here in the USA we pay quite a bit above the world price for milk due to Uncle Sugar's dairy price supports (another leftover of the Great Depression).

There are certain types of food available in the USA and not in Mexico, and vice versa. Stores like Costco have a good selection of "USA" food, but not everybody goes often enough to justify a membership. So, it's probably cheaper to send somebody shopping in the USA from time to time. Conversely, I know that the Tijuana Costco has a bunch of interesting foods and wines unavailable in the States. When I have time I try to nab a couple of things to take home.

The quality of other things, like shoes, clothing, etc. , tend to be a bit better in the USA. So, if one has access, I think it's probably (overall) cheaper to get these things in the USA. One can buy in San Diego and schlep the stuff across the border and avoid the duty that gets slapped on imported textile products. Mexico has a 20+% tariff on imported clothing (except for clothes manufactured in the USA, but that ain't much these days). The USA tariff tends to be less, although it's an eye-glazing task to wade through the Harmonized Tariff schedule.

Hotel de Santiago is in that section of Coahuilla East of Constitution, a nice hotel but best avoided?
