My guess is that hiding money in the socks is the best way. I have been searched several times and have not searched my socks etc.

You think the cops never heard of money belts? Obviously they'll show up in a pat down. If the cop suspects you of hiding stuff on your person they will search your socks. Both I, and Artisttyp, will attest to that. Don't carry large sums and hold the money in your hand when you are searched. And always pay in pesos.

They are always going to pat you down. It's standard procedures from keeping their nuts shot off by a CC perp. I simply carry what I think I will spend + $100 for emergencies. Likely worst case, I get a free limo ride to the border.

I've read many of your posts and you've got to be the unluckiest monger to ever set foot in Tijuana. It's borderline tragic. The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is the character in the movie "The Great Outdoors" who'd been struck by lightning so many times he could barely say the number. Hang in there dude because things have to even out at some point, right? You might have the greatest run of luck ever for a monger during the next few years, or not.

Atoyac Leather on Calle 3 between Revo and Madero has them or you can bring your own belt and have them add an inside zipper. Cost is like $35. Seriously though those are well known in Mexico. They work GREAT in other countries where they don't sell them.

Look on Etsy like I mentioned below. Zipper money belts are super common in Mexico. They are sold at the curio shops on Revo. I've had my belt removed as well as my socks on the street by police. Several years ago they even dropped my pants on Primera in plain view. I was super drunk though. My fault 100%.

Money belts must have money in it. So Polciia will be sure sure to search it and will try to steal from it.

Don't tell policia this, but the easiest and safest way is to wrap the chunk of bills into the bottom of your shirt, then tuck it into your pants and tighten the belt around it. Policia will search pockets and shoes but would never ask anyone to undo the belt or zipper. If they do I can scream sexual molestation hehe.

Leave a few loose small bills in the wallet in case policias turn into assholes and have to steal from you.

Money belts are so easy to find and are typical. You need to get more creative than that.

The key is to hold your wallet and cell phone in your hand when the police search. Often times the police will object and insist they need to search your wallet. After this incident I am going to buy a money belt for traveling.

The cops robbed me $200 off my pockets a few years ago; since then, I don't carry more than $300 with me at a time; I leave the rest at my hotel.

I am interested in pointers from others on how to avoid robbery if stopped by the cops. When we are carrying several hundred dollars.

This is among my nightmare scenarios for Tijuana trips.

When stopped the very first thing you do is to take your money and put it into your hand. Cops do not need probable cause to stop you but they have no right to handle your money. They may search your wallet (why anybody carries a wallet in the ZN is beyond me) but you will have already pulled all of your cash out of it. BTW, they know all about hiding money in your sock and, if so inclined, they will make you take off your shoes and they will pat down your feet. This happened to me a few months ago.

Be polite but be firm. Don't offer a bribe, and if the cops start to discuss it will be up to you whether or not to cooperate. But do not start offering large sums. Do not agree to large sums (unless you really were committing a crime).

Don't carry large sums of money. Walking around with $1200 is just a death wish. Do not carry contraband. Do not give them an excuse to hassle you. Vape pens are an extremely grey area, so don't carry one. Don't carry an open container. Don't carry drugs. Don't get shitfaced and walk around. These are all common sense things that many people still ignore.
