I've driven through downtown L.A. at night. It's mainly deserted with few bums and some shifty looking people walking around. Prep - I decided this was one of those plans that could be done from Brockton O'Tool's guide. It was very easy, the SD trolley is really just that close to the border, and all you need is a little time to spend there. You will attract a little attention if you're as Gringo as me, but it's easily brushed off - you aren't the first today or anything so rare. You won't be the first to speak so very little spanish. You won't be the first to try to set a WR for Chicas in one night. Just do it, as Nike will decline to display in relation to this post.

And I've decided you can buy me a beer in TJ sometime.

Armed with some information from here, I had a spare day in San Diego that I'd pencilled in for a Tijuana trip.

Never been to Mexico before, but I expect I'll be back.

I got the trolley down Monday afternoon, found the entrance to the ramp is only 100 or so yards from the stop.

Got across without anyone looking at me or suggesting I show them any documentation. I assume this is pretty much the norm? I bought some Pesos from the place between the two turnstiles, later discovered this was a fairly poor rate (12. 60), but I didn't see better than 12. 65 that day. The next day, 12. 72 was all over the Zona Norte.

I didn't really have a solid plan at this point, so I'd basically brought the bare minimum. Passport, wallet with a little cash, 1 credit and 1 ATM card, a bottle of water and a toothbrush. OK to stay the night if I needed.

Walked across the bridge in daylight. Based on the rest of the experience, I'm not so sure I wouldn't try it at night now, I suspect there's plenty of scaremongering involved there. And got to the Arch after a quick stop at one of the Taco Bell restaurants. One seems closed, the other's food is fairly good and the beer cheap. I took an interest in the myriad pharmacies around and bought some generic blue pills, $4 each seems the going rate most places, one place had yellow at 4/$10. Cialis is all brand name and consequently expensive, didn't look at Levitra. Took a blue.

Along the alley, I went for one of the non-lookers, nothing too ugly, just not as cute as they came, she said she'd blow uncovered and offer no-holes-barred action for $30 (so 300pesos). Fairly good, but my performance was lacking.

Decided to stay the night to get the full experience, I eventually opted for Hotel Santa Cecilia, right by the Arch really. Couple of nice looking *****s outside, but I decided to have a nap and by the time I got up again there was no sign of them. Best pickings seem to be during afternoon and early evening. The hotel is fairly basic, he tried to sell me the premium room (330pesos), but I decided the one for 230 would suit me. Bed, not much else, ensuite shower and toilet though. No towels provided, I possibly could have asked for one, but my Spanish is very limited. I had a quick gander on the way out, the "premium" room features a sort of open-plan wardrobe too, since there was considerable disrobing done, maybe it would be worth it.

Checked out the various clubs, Adelitas and Hong Kong were head and shoulders above the rest, Chicago completely empty, and the other places where the owners want you to "just take a look" aren't worth the trouble of even doing so. This was a Monday, however. Hong Kong had some real stunners, and the most girls dancing I've ever seen. And, as I say, this was Monday. Adelitas had many more predatory girls who come and sit with you and angle for drinks and to take you to the room.

Ended up being taken home by one of the good looking SWs, waiting on the corner by Chicago.
