It's a wise decision to stay away from Thailand. Trannies are everywhere, and they are aggressive in pursuing customers, at times very aggressive.

I think there's some kind insecurity / gay panic psychology that goes on with this kind of violence.

Sorry, it's not that easy to spot them, and their voice can sound very feminine. Many of them would not tell you if you asked them. My method is if in doubt just move on.
