I figured rumba, chez real and merengue would be allowed to reopen at some point because they have kitchens. But I'm sure there will be new rules tha soont will be strictly enforced. Like Oak said, this really doesn't effect expats and vets, it hits the weekend warriors kinda hard. Looking forward to my next trip. No worries!
Rumba will reopen, soon! That's a Dominican "soon"! Lol.
I can't speak for the rest of the world, but in the U.K and Canada, at least, where I have family, Sosua has a reputation far out of proportion to it's lowly status as a small pueblo beach town. My main buddy was banned from visiting me by his wife and kids! I now tell folks I'm in PP.
A reputation passed on by thousands of sex tourists who come to Sosua every year and go back to share stories of their sexual escapades. They also come here from Canada like me, the USA, Germany, Holland and Scandinavia, and keep coming back. Cheap available and legal pussy always has a market, even for Europeans!
Also by newspaper "exposes" about the so called problems the Dominican Republic has with underage prostitution and sex tourists.
It's not the youtube videos, it's more like a bar with a bad rep. No matter how much a series of new owners spend to tart it up, it always fails, unless they tear down the building entirely.
It takes a generation to gentrify a bad zip code!
Sosua is stuck with it's rep, for better or worse! LOL.

Ask MrGogo about when a known monger, BBBC, was roving all around the north coast and didn't even know Sosua existed. He was just passing the place by going from Puerto Plata to Cabarete. I didn't even know it existed until a coworker told me about it in 2006. And I had already been to Boca Chica twice.
It is only people that are already involved in the sex tourism that are viewing these posts anyway. Hell, I am involved in it and the only time I would even see one is when someone posts it here and I click on it. The average person like my aunt is not at home mistakenly running into these posts and saying shame, shame, shame, no more than I am accidentally running into posts about heart transplants or how to take care of a ficus tree.
We'll have to agree to disagree bruh. When the outgoing president was running for reelection he spoke of cleaning up prostitution on the north coast. Then he went further and mentioned sosua specifically. So the attitude of making change in sosua isn't a new one.
Go on YouTube and type in sosua. A lot of videos will come up. I was sent one this morning of a dude who filmed the protest in sosua last night. A lot of videos have chicas in them. The powers that be don't want that image. All the youtube video dudes don't help. Just my opinion.

It would be great if they reopened Rhumba's, my favorite of all in Sosua, it would be good to visit Sosua again.
I respectfully disagree. I think Santo Domingo has been wanting to shake the sex tourism label since the outgoing president was running for reelection. The YouTube videos with chicas, Facebook posts with chicas all add to the reputation they want to shake. They still want our money, but they want it all quiet. Next they'll crackdown on anything with a flyer on IG or Facebook. Just my opinion. Time will tell. It really doesn't affect anyone with contacts all that much. I'll be back soon. Can't wait!
I can't see how they can keep the restaurants closed. I think at some they will reopen, but with restrictions. Rumbas does have a good kitchen. The goat with veggies is the bomb! Peace to all!

Doesn't affect us regulars and ex pats, in any way.
Nothing really changes for us.
I for one already got more pussy than I can handle! LOL.
The big change to Sosua for me already happened years ago, when they closed the corner Bermuda Bar, and turned the Happy Bar batchata dancing bar into a pizza joint!
On another note my buddy at Rumba says they are going nowhere.
They are "negotiating" to re-open the restaurant soon!

Yep. In the short time since bourbon closed I've seen way too many videos out of ahnvee. The powers that be want things quiet. I don't see things being allowed to continue. The video dudes are drawing to much attention. I'm staying out of ahnvee next trip.

My local bars are now on the monger radar, too! Cops have laid back, too!
It's all good!

Let Them Eat Cake!
The mayor of Sosua is behaving like Marie Antoinette! Her cake is the dream that Sosua will be a family Disneyland instead of the DisneyLand that attract men and women to Sosua that has ben paying the taxes to allow the pueblo to have the semblance of a town. Look at the second photo. Sosua can't even adequately collect its trash, causing health concerns. Also, Sosua has children stand in front of the bars on PC every night when they should be safe at home, yet the police and politicians are not concerned about that. So as the first photo depicts what Sosua looks like, it also says Pranitium Bar location will be a fashion store! What? For Who? LOL! The girls all shop in Puerto Plata where clothes are inexpensive, and they buy from the Haitian girls! Tourists will not come to a beach town for fashion, if they come at all!

There may not be many things to do in Sosua, but if you only visit over three or for day trips, it's adequate for the trip, especially in the US is cold in the winter. I agree! I'm usually in town for at least 10 days, and I get all my action away from the clubs. I usually chill and sleep off jet lag my first night, then the next day I'm early at the beach or walking around town for semi-pros. I have my ole reliables who only do call out service. There are some nice girls who have regular jobs in Sosua, or even POP, who will keep me company. But the police and politicians will never stop me from going to Sosua. In fact, I hope the fools close all the bars to let Sosua be a ghost town.

That's what I mean when I say the Chica union has got out a hand. They can't even tell OG's or season vets when they see them. They're pushing to establish the price and hourly tone. They are so used to getting paid by us gringos they're not even asking for pesos. What season vet makes it a habit of paying in US dollars?
IMO It's going to be a while before the dust settle.
