I believe Sosua Main Street will slowly die off. Some brave establishments will move to new area hoping. Right now there are no open bars there where people can easily go in and out. When and if it happens I am sure more girls will come looking for money. Maybe few hotels will open in that area. Transportation is not an issue because of motos. Although people like to stay and walk around.
Only way Sosua can survive is by staying as a brothel town. It will never become a tourist town because there is nothing apart from the beach. Beach road survives only because of casa marina.
If the mayor thinks Sosua main will become a tourist town she is not thinking straight or does not care. With the all inclusive resorts tourists will not go to Main Street restaurants and hang around there.

Some of them were out marching the streets in protest, a couple nights ago! They need their jobs to support their families now, not at some future time when the "family tourism" business is supposed to kick in!
Mayor Ilana is a politician, above all, and she has to give these folks some real answers, if she's to be re-elected!

On Tuesday evening, 19 November, a few hundred dismissed employees held a protest March through the streets of Sosúa. These are employees of the bars and restaurants recently closed by order of the government. They are former employees of Bar Central, Bourbon Street restaurant, Bar Pranitium (El Flow), the Merengue Bar, the Rumba Bar, discotheque the 'Clasico, discotheque Citylights, the Blue Ice Piano Bar and Chez Montreal. It is not just about bar staff, but also maintenance, cleaning and security staff. The taxi companies and montoconchos (motor taxis) saw their number of customers decrease considerably.
But also the fashion stores, hairdresser's, massage and beauty salons and other restaurants saw their turnover fall. With torchlights they marched through the streets, with protest signs with slogans and chants, they showed that they are now destitute. 'The holidays are coming and how should we feed our children and sick mother?' The activists we spoke to said that this is just the beginning of the resistance, more protests will follow. Wednesday afternoon there was another protest March in the streets of Sosúa, this time against prostitution. Extra police had been brought in from Puerto Plata to prevent calamities.

Posts: 2490Different groups for the Sue. IMO.
1. These are the people that say they're tired of the Sue having a bad name. They wanted to have a good standing reputation. They want to end a prostitution in the area. They want it to be a well-known family Destiination or anything other than sex tourism. They believe they can stop prostitution in the area. They feel business in the Sue will not skip a beat or continue with minimal repercussions. They include Politicians seeking election or reelection and the majority of voting citizens. They have enough influence to recruit the local police and military on their team.
2. These are the people looking to relocate the action. They understand that they cannot stop prostitution but profit big from it being relocated. They see major profits from land being sold and developed from the new location. It's all about the numbers to them and they have Allied themselves with group 1 because they want change of the old Sosua.
3. These are the people that already have an interest the old location. To them, the cops arresting the SW is no good. They want the harassment to stop and let things continue. They are current business owners and their employees. Haitians and Dominicans that hustle in the area, The Minority of voting citizens, and a large majority of its regular tourists.

Rumor is Rumbas will reopen in the old Mouri mai location, which is across from the casino. Interesting. No word on what will happen to the old location or what the new rules will be. Stay tuned!

I can't speak for the rest of the world, but in the U.K and Canada, at least, where I have family, Sosua has a reputation far out of proportion to it's lowly status as a small pueblo beach town. My main buddy was banned from visiting me by his wife and kids! I now tell folks I'm in PP.
A reputation passed on by thousands of sex tourists who come to Sosua every year and go back to share stories of their sexual escapades. They also come here from Canada like me, the USA, Germany, Holland and Scandinavia, and keep coming back. Cheap available and legal pussy always has a market, even for Europeans!
Also by newspaper "exposes" about the so called problems the Dominican Republic has with underage prostitution and sex tourists.
It's not the youtube videos, it's more like a bar with a bad rep. No matter how much a series of new owners spend to tart it up, it always fails, unless they tear down the building entirely.
It takes a generation to gentrify a bad zip code!
Sosua is stuck with it's rep, for better or worse! LOL.

It is only people that are already involved in the sex tourism that are viewing these posts anyway. Hell, I am involved in it and the only time I would even see one is when someone posts it here and I click on it. The average person like my aunt is not at home mistakenly running into these posts and saying shame, shame, shame, no more than I am accidentally running into posts about heart transplants or how to take care of a ficus tree.

Like Oak said, this really doesn't effect expats and vets, it hits the weekend warriors kinda hard. Looking forward to my next trip. No worries!

The cops arrested a whole bunch of chicas as they were leaving the party!
They got to decide if they want a party scene at that end of town, or not!
Doesn't affect us regulars and ex pats, in any way.
Nothing really changes for us.
I for one already got more pussy than I can handle! LOL.
The big change to Sosua for me already happened years ago, when they closed the corner Bermuda Bar, and turned the Happy Bar batchata dancing bar into a pizza joint!
On another note my buddy at Rumba says they are going nowhere.
They are "negotiating" to re-open the restaurant soon!
