Rio De Janeiro changed for ever when these type of people started going there in flocks. The City started to enforce its dormant anti prostitution laws (yeh, they do exist in Brazil!) when these thugs tried to turn the affluent Copacabana neighborhood into S. Central LA or Harlem. As a result, sex clubs were turned into museum, massage parlors into theaters, etc. (get the irony!). Those places that were left open still get a monthly 'visit' from the popo.

Will Sosua be next? Time will tell.

Oh! It had nothing to do with Brazil getting the World cup in 2014, and the Olympics in 2016? I'm sure they wanted the world to view Brazil as a sex city. Blame it on the brothers if you want, but 99% of the people know it was because of getting the World cup and Olympics.

Normally I recommend using publicos everywhere but, if it is the place I am thinking, I have a friend living there and she has been mugged twice (and slightly injured one of the times) while waiting for and getting out of publicos on that lonely stretch of road.

Thats the one, stayed there twice. Its a nice place, with a big pool and good food. You can have girls there, they need to check their cedulars. I did a report on this place years ago. The second visit they upgraded me to the penthouse that had a wrap-around balcony and sea views. They gave one of the girls leaving the wrong ID and created a storm. They didn't seem to care and the girl without a ID was with me.

I always walked down to the road and motochonchos pass every minute. You can ride to Sosua for 50p-100p.

I have no sympathy. If you read this (or any other board) you would know there is a risk of that happening. (I say "risk", because it is not always like that there. You take pot luck). Plenty of other good places to stay. I am not blasting those guys. If that is their idea of a good time and the management welcomes their custom, so be it. You and I can always go elsewhere.

If people are spending a lot of hard-earned cash on a vacation, it is worth investing some hours on research first. If you had read up here or elsewhere you would have gone somewhere else.

I enjoy the expansion of my horizons that my cloistered suburban life does not afford me and find it ironic that I relate to my fellow countrymen of all stripes more closely abroad that I do back home. Having said that, I do realize that it can get wild and crazy at all hours but have found that it does not always originate from any particular demographic and that a good natured "shut the F. Up!" usually quietens things down.

The flip side is that, when you're not dipping your wick (which is pretty often at my age!) , there is no shortage of newly acquired "brodders from another muthas" around to hang out with, compare notes and exchange intel. The bonus for me is that I can work on getting schooled in, and acquiring an appreciation of, rap music which, after years of being stuck in a 60's time warp, fascinates me.

That is what you are likely to find at the New Garden Hotel. Not always, but they tend to get that kind of clientele. The good news is that all the other hotels are much less likely to be playing host to this demographic at the same time you are there. It is not always wise to pay for a week upfront, because they are very unlikely to refund your money if you want to depart early.

This is the prime reason why I avoid this spot. Back in the day, it wasn't as bad but the crowd you described has increased considerably in Sosua. Too bad because the rooms are decent and I used to like to eat breakfast there.

I must be getting old because I can't relate to the Timberland boots in 90 degree weather look, or the dudes that brag about how many days in a row they popped bottles in D'Latin.

That is what you are likely to find at the New Garden Hotel. Not always, but they tend to get that kind of clientele. The good news is that all the other hotels are much less likely to be playing host to this demographic at the same time you are there. It is not always wise to pay for a week upfront, because they are very unlikely to refund your money if you want to depart early.

I presume from this that you are not staying in one of the usual monger hotels. If a loner, good places to meet guys are:

(1) Rocky's Bar for late breakfast from 11. 30am to 1. 00pm. Ask the manager Rick to introduce you to helpful ex-pats and other experienced mongers.

(2) On the Beach, assuming decent weather, from 2. 30pm (sometimes earlier) at casitas#144 (Ruby's Vulkan Bar) and #145 (Siempre Sol). I am not sure if I got those numbers exactly right, but that is near enough to find them. Usually a few ex-pats and regulars hanging out at these two adjacent bars if you need some pointers for you trip.

I will be there 25. The first nights I will stay at Don Antonio. At daytime I go to the beach Siempre Sol with Herman and Tropica with Jos.

In the evening most time in Bar Central. I think that are good places to meet girls.

It is exactly 11:00 pm and I am getting a nice buzz from drinking brandy and listening to Reggeaton all by my lonesome before heading out to the clubs. One thing that bothers me is the younger members who comment negatively on the middle aged punters. I just crossed the 50 year border. Runner, good shape, ex frat boy and I read some of the comments about the drooling middle aged guys. Now, these guys probably never paid for pussy in their 20s or 30s. They had to work hard and get it free, especially in North America. They get the last laugh. They look at the young guys and think, I never paid for this. People get married, get stressful jobs, gain weight, loose family members. Shit / life happens. There was no internet, cheap flights so all I am saying is, if you are lucky to live long enough to middle age, show some respect and no ageist remarks. In Asia, older guys are viewed positively, and even here in Sosua no one asked my age even when I asked how old the chica was. This is very much a North American phenomenon-the ageist thing! That sucks. I think my Haittian girl just tried to contact me, and my wife and daughter are missing me. Life is complicated, short and good-as it should be.
