On my last two trips however I discovered Hotel El Rancho, 3 minute walk away and I like this place better. It was recommended to me by the owner of Casa Valeria when he was full and I couldn't get a room. My future trips will forever be at El Rancho. Here's why:
1) Rooms are $45 a night and the place was just built less than a year ago.
2) Located on a much quieter dead end side street with its own private and protected PUBLIC beach about 100 yards away. Just walk into the adjacent all inclusive and follow the clifftop to the stairs to the beach. No riffraff at all on this beach, none. Trust me, its public.
3) The entire town is within easy walking distance to everything from El Rancho just like Casa Valeria.
4) Exchange your dollars at the street corner with the money exchangers right there. Safe and convenient and they offer the highest street rate. I would exchange exactly $100 USD every time i needed it and be on my way.
5) Chica friendly, they hold her ID card ("cedula") and she doesn't get it back till you walk her out. Strict security guard always on duty at the desk 24/7.
6) Little bar/rest out back serves a decent, cheap breakfast. After the beach just jump into their little pool to cool off. You can eat dinner there and watch them cook it for you.
7) Everything works in the room, A/C, ceiling fan, TV, hot water, and its clean. I was just there for 3 nights several days ago after a 5 day bangfest at BlackBeards.
