Holy cow! I also read Mr. E's link. Just plain scary and to think, last year, when I flew to the DR in July, once the flight freeze was over, it was a breeze with middle seat empty etc.

For the longest time, I have been flying Jetblue, essentially because it is non-stop to STI and yes, paying top dollars even without a checked bag but I guess, it is better than having to deal with what you guys and Grown Man described.

My biggest concern is maintenance and customer service. Spirit has terrible customer service and if they skimp on the basic shit to make a profit, it makes me wonder how they approach maintenance.

American Airlines has quietly re-certified the 737 8 max and released it to the fleet. JetBlue has phased out the Brazilian 190 aircraft (my favorite) and went with new airbus jets.

BTW Spirit just cancelled all flights to Tampa and cancelled more at FLL. To each his own but I wouldn't fly Spirit even if it was free.

The line up at Baylee had nothing to do with how we were dressed. Just that the place was packed.

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone goes to Bailey's -It is absolutely the worst service on the entire island.

Spirit airlines cancelled 34 flights August 1 and left people stranded at FLL. Orlando also had problems with Spirit cancelling flights. Not to mention the ugliest flight attendants, rough flight and extras cost money from water to peanuts.

I have made 6 flights on Spirit 2 on American this year. For me the bottom line is price and convenience. I get both from Spirit. I live in DC area my arrival time to the DR Santo Domingo is 1 to 3 pm which is excellent for me. Departure times are early afternoon which is also very good for me. I do not need free peanuts or water. I have the Spirit credit card which gets me some decent perks. Once you learn how to fly Spirit you will have few problems. No cancel flights so far. I will be flying them tommorrow.

American airlines has been pretty bad lately. I flew american airlines 4 times this year and for all 4 flights I had long delays. My flight to puerto plata got changed to santiago now.

I wish delta was flying to puerto plata, I rarely get issues with delta.

I'm in AA platinum card holder. I also have the Citibank card. I usually roll with them because I get priority boarding (for me and my friends) plus one free bag. Last vacation they completely dropped the ball. I miss my connecting flight due to the pilot stating they were waiting on a part for the plane. I get into Miami and they said I had a eight hour wait and the only thing they could do was give me a food voucher.

I wasn't by myself apparently about 80 other people missed their flights. We were all in a long line waiting to get rescheduled. When I finally got to the attendant after waiting in the line for two hours, they wanted to fly me to Las Vegas or something like that. That was going to be another 10 hour delay. I argue with them and told them I'm not sleeping at the airport and I should have a room. I told the flight attendant the pilot came over the intercom and apologize for them not having a part for the plane it had nothing to do with the weather. She then gave me a voucher for a hotel room in Miami. Mind you my flight was just 4 1/2 hours away but I didn't care I wanted to sleep even if it was for two hours.

They put me in a $250 room a night. They gave me a meal voucher however the only thing open was subway (It was about 12:30 AM). When I looked at the line in the airport it was probably 85 people deep. They are going to run out of food because there are about 60 people behind me waiting to get their voucher.

I had to book me a flight the next morning from Miami to the DR. Get to the DR and American Airlines doesn't have my bags and will not have it until the next day. Two people I travel with both left on separate times with American Airlines and both experience cancellations and delays.

Given the choice I will still take American Airlines over Spirit.

American cancelled my last flight and rescheduled me for 2 days later without even offering a cash voucher. I remember once the over booked the MIA to POP flight and gave me a 800 usd voucher for flying over the next day, plus a hotel room in Miami. This was many years ago.

How is the Spirit flying experience? I fly Jetblue because it is non stop but way more expensive and I am peeved because they have now started nickel and diming. That is why I am curious about Spirit and if I recall you always fly them.

As you and I talked about recently Tempo, JetBlue is the best but their prices to the Dominican Republic have gone from 220 usd rt, to 600 usd rt. Free baggage carry-ons plus one checked if you have the True Blue credit card.

I was there a few weeks ago. Baileys is ground zero for hooking up with the girls. I am not sure how busy the sue really is but there are not many places to hang out other then the beach. In order to gt into Baileys girls have to be dressed properly. The skanks tend not to have the cash buy a beer or a meal. I have no clue what the night life is about now. The Casino at playa chiquita is open.

Yesterday, decided to take my long suffering GF who cooks all my food and does my laundry to a rare decent restaurant meal.

Went to Baylee's but couldn't get in, not even a table at the back.

They had them lined up for a half hour wait at the side door. This was at noon Saturday, in the middle of summer, fer chrissakes!

Walked over to Don Andres, past Bologna and Romano. All were busy.

Food at Don Andre disappointing.

But yeah I've been talking to her and she was tellin me that the tips are hit or miss for her because theres so many ladies working there. But I'm hoping it gets busier for her. She honestly has great customer service skills. If she could master learning english she could easily double or triple her salary working at a resort etc.

Owners and entrepreneurs are betting on a pent up demand for travel, particularly from Europe and Canada. They are renovating old properties, and derelict bars are reopening, notably, Captains Table and Rancho Tipico which is drawing a good crowd in the evenings. The old CMP is now a new apartment hotel. Bars in the area include the aforementioned, plus Cheers, Plan be, Jabila, with live bands and and DJs so there's a good mix of music and dancing. (Note to CoolieHigh, one of your harem is new manager at Rancho Tipico)

Spirit nickles and dimes with the best of them. They charge for both carry on and checked bags. I have seen people show up with carry on bag told it will cost 90 dollars to take that bag on the flight. They go nuts and Spirit sticks to its policy, However once you learn how to manage your travel this will not be an issue. The good, Spirit has excellent departure and arrival times. They get me from DC area to SD by 1 pm. Departure from SD is around 2 pm which works well for me. The cost of the Spirit flights 150 less then most airlines. I have a spirit credit card so my miles add up. You can get a round trip sometimes for 10,000 miles. So far this year my miles have gotten me 3 free trips. I do not need to be wined and dined on a plane. I can buy own snacks and 2 hours sitting on a plane is not a problem. And closing I make Spirit my B@tch because I know how to use its perks of which there are plenty. I once flew to ATL for 50 dollars round trip.
