Gentleman I have completed my first long term trip to the Dominican Republic. My objective for this trip was to secure my apartment and get more familiar with my surroundings. February was the month of Carnival in the Dominican Republic, when I wasn't in Sosua I was traveling to Santiago or visiting Carnival sites like La Vega and Bonao.

Now that I live in the Sosua area I will view things from a different perspective and periodically report my observations for the benefit of the board.

Below I have listed my notes for your review.

    Inclement weather.

During my time in the United States I left home which was 25 degrees to visit my son in Ohio and I was greeted with 5 degree temperatures. Upon my arrival in the Dominican Republic it was 80 degrees but evenings were cool and at night the temperature dropped down to about 65 degrees, it rained almost every night and early in the morning during my stay.

    Victorian House.

Upon my arrival my apartment was not ready and needed some work so stayed at the Victorian House. I got the $50.00 special and expected a normal room; I follow the porter to the right side of the complex and discovered they booked me in a 1 bedroom apartment and I was like WTF?

The apartment is very nice with white appointed furniture in the living room and a small dining area. The major drawback is there is no functional kitchen because the stove does not work. The bedroom is spacious and comfortable. There is a view of Sosua Bay but it is obstructed by some of the other buildings.

I have had my challenges with Victorian House from intermittent internet to problems to a toilet with running water. The staff has always been attentive and polite with me but this takes the cake. Putting me in an apartment that generally goes for almost twice what I normally pay for a standard room is nothing short of OUTSTANDING!

Bourbon Street Restaurant at Victorian House.

Bourbon Street is the restaurant at Victoria House. The food generally is good however the prices are inflated. The same breakfast that would cost you 250 pesos in town could cost 400 pesos or more at Bourbon Street. I really can't blame them because their market is extranjeros and of course we pay more.

As always I love the staff!

    Super Bowl Weekend.

My trip commenced right after Super Bowl weekend. There were reports during Super Bowl weekend that chicas were quoting $100-$150 US or 6000-7000 pesos for ST. Not only are prices reported to be high but service is reported to be sub-par because the chicas are looking for high turnover in order to get as much money as they can.

Although there are generally many 8's and some 9's in town I personally prefer not to corrupt the market and stand on principle not paying those ridiculous prices. Does 7000 peso toto feel better than 2000 pesos toto? I rationalize my position by understanding that without people like us she would have to get a real job. The bottom line is I have to discipline myself to be able to walk away and not look back which is easier said than done sometimes.

    Chica Prices in general.

It appears as if prices are creeping up. In relation to the devaluation of the peso against the dollar therefore the increased prices can be understood. The Pedro Clisante chicas are expecting 2500-3000 pesos for ST and 3000-4000 pesos for TLN. 1500-2000 can still be had depending on the chica the time of day and where she is at the time. On the stroll in the middle of the day you might could squeeze 1000-1500 pesos but at Rumbas in the evening you would be hard pressed getting an 8 for less than 2000 pesos unless you have some type of history with her.

My concern about prices is the more you pay does not insure better service in fact for some the service is mediocre at best.

Pedro Clisante West update March 14,2015.

As it has been previously reported Pedro Clisante has gone through some changes. The street was closing at 6 pm to vehicular traffic and tables are put out in front of many of the establishments but now it has been re-opened.

The two major additions to Sosua night life in this area are Club X and Bronnffy's Bar & Lounge.

    Club X.

Club X is across the street from Classicos / Merengue it opens at the same time as Classicos but doesn't get busy until after Classicos closes. The club has a bar dance floor and 2 VIP sections. Those who are not ready to retire can cross the street and continue the party at Club X. After One is dead now so Club X has replaced After One as the after party spot.

One Saturday I was there they had live music and the cover was 200 pesos it was well worth the investment.

    The Winners Circle:

I saw a little crowd there each time I walked by but mostly people standing out front. The Winners Circle is next door to Club X and it appears as if Club X is taking some of their fire.

    Bronnffy's Bar & Lounge.

Bronnffy's Bar & Lounge is "The Spot" under new management. They painted inside but other than that it has the same feel and customer base. Almost nada. It makes for a nice place to do an interview and vibe with a chica if you feel so inclined.

They have a tout outside that will do everything he can to get you to come inside IDK maybe he gets a commission?

    City Lights:

I like the layout of the club in fact I think it is classier in appearance than Rumba as an open air bar but there may have been less than 3 or 4 people there every time I passed by. It is definitely an under used venue I have no idea what they can do to increase business.

    Rumbas:

Rumbas has become ground central for Pedro Clisante west. Rumbas is now a spot that stays active much later. In times past it was very active between 7-10 pm but now it can stay active up until 1 am. Rumbas has replaced the Latins as the go to spot on Pedro Clisante west.

Rumbas has a restaurant outside that is great for dinner and watching the chica parade. I have also used it for chica interviews because the music can be distracting inside Rumba.

    The Premium Disco Bar.

As mentioned in the previous thread apparently the authorities raided the Premium Disco Bar on Friday, March 13,2014. It is unknown at this point the exact reasoning for the closure but it appears as if previous incidents of violence and gun-play are a part of the reasons for the closure. I took pictures and could see no official notification from the government.

    Merengue:

They keep the door closed and serve snack food like chicken wings etc. It is a very chill spot and I love the staff they are always friendly. I also like being able to watch the chica parade up to Classicos through the glass partitions.

    Classicos:

The crown of Sosua night life. Right now if Classicos was not open Sosua night life for mongers would suck! I used to enjoy the night club atmosphere and air-conditioning. Sosua's best comes out even on slow nights you can find a few 8's in the house. They open at 11 pm and it is on and poppin by 1 am.

    Bar Central Hotel.

Bar Central is an indoor bar with a hotel in the rear. If you are on the Pedro Clisante strip obviously Bar Central is closer for a quickie if you decide not to go to your hotel room. The windows were closed unlike my last trip when the windows were open.

Pedro Clisante East update March 14,2015.

    Rancho Tipico.

I decided I would try to experience the west end of Pedro Clisante for an evening. I arrived at Rancho Tipico just before 10 pm and had the wings. Since I do not drink I ordered 3 bottles of water while I sat at my table. Just before midnight the owner approached me with a drink in his hand and said "amigo you can't just drink water" I replied "but I had dinner" and he replied saying "I don't give a fuck!" I then asked what I had to do and he said "I need the table I don't give a fuck!" and he pushed me aside as I was waiting to pay my bill. Given his speech was slurred and he was holding a glass of what appeared to be alcoholic beverage I suspect he was under the influence. I immediately left after paying my bill as I did not want any problems.

    Samba Brasil.

I have been meaning to spend more time on the east end of Pedro Clisante in order to break my Rumba-Merengue routine, I wanted to spend more time at Rancho Tipico but since that is out I tried Samba Brasil which is on the same side of the street and just before you get to Rancho Tipico.

The venue has a bar and an area in back with lounge chairs but every time I have walked by only the bar has been occupied. There is one flat screen TV that plays sports. When I was there the bar had about 5 camareras that made every effort to entertain the customers. I met 1 who was cute who was good at striking up a conversation with me and she was very pleasant. I may return for the digits we shall see.

My main concern was there was little else to do other than drink and talk to the camareras. There was no food chips popcorn or anything to munch on, if I were the owner I would at least keep some snacks on deck for those who get the munchies.

The infamous Fior works there but she has picked up a few pounds age and babies tell the story on a woman's body.

    Dulce Secreto Cabana.

The primary and best cabana option in the area is Dulce Secreto. Bar Central is available but the rooms are sub-par and it is understood why some chicas do not want to go there. Regular rooms are 600 pesos and jacuzi rooms are 800 pesos. Dulce Secreto has become my friend now that I have an apartment because when I meet a new lady on the street I would prefer not to bring her to a cabana than to my apartment in the event something goes wrong. The extra expense is worth the peace of mind of the possibility of having somebody nut up on me in my home. The problem is that Dulce Secreto has less than 10 rooms and on certain nights they fill up fast, therefore on occasion I am left with the choice to abandon the chica or take her to my apartment.

Dulce Secreto remains a great option for those who need a backup plan.

    Anecdotal thoughts.

I noticed an increasing amount of Sosua chicas smoking cigarettes which I had not seen before. As if they need another expense to have to keep up with. I guess cigarette smoking is their way of dealing with their stress.

Now that I will be doing extended stays in the Sosua area I have to transition from the tourist mindset to the ex-pat mindset. This includes paying more reasonable rates or changing the chica pool. It remains to be seen how many Pedro Clisante chicas I can get to give me ex-pat rates.

On this trip I spent an extensive amount of time in Santiago as well as visited La Vega and Bonao for Carnival. I also visited Cabarette a few times to break the Sosua monotony.

Previously my travel was by Carribe Tours, Metro, gua gua, carro publico, moto-concho or walking. Now that I have a car it will give me an opportunity to travel places I would not have considered before. I am excited to see what excursions I can take off the beaten path.

    Conclusion.

I am going home for a couple of weeks to check on family and friends and when I return I will keep you updated on changes on the ground.
    Great report Camaro!

With a few more hotel choices it would be the definitive guide for a newbie. Can't wait to hear about your experiences setting up house down there!

As a fairly frequent guest of Casa Marina, I can tell you that they only let chicas in who are registered guests. The tab for an additional registered guest is something like $85 per day, so it's not a viable option for a casual monger.

Because it's a sweet deal from Toronto, you get the all inclusive room for not much more than the bare air fare, and it's a regular 3 to 4 hr non stop flight. I can always give my regular DR chica a vacation for almost free, and she loves it.

A couple of weeks ago I was there and changed my routine up a little. Normally my chica meets me there and negotiates the upgrade from single to double. This time I asked Nolitours who run the tour to get me a single fare down, and a double room occupancy with her on the reservation.

This was great, cost me $1200 Canadian ($935 USA) plus a small internet charge. Not bad for Airfare for me and all inclusive for two in a great room, great beach, great location (with a very happy chica!)

(She's got a sense of humor too, when I mentioned our ground floor sliding patio door wasn't locking properly, she said, "That's OK, there's no Dominicans in this week)

As I posted below, depending on when you live, if you can get the hotel thrown in, more or less for free, it can be a good deal. Especially as Oakie and Frannie assure us it is now a decent hotel.

But by the time you have paid out for short-time accommodation (Rocky's or Dulce Secreto are the two most popular options) you won't have saved much, if anything. It depends how many chicas you want to fuck during your trip. If you are doing three a day, cheaper to book a room at Rocky's in addition to your hotel. If just one or two a week to spice up a conventional sun 'and sand holiday, then use Dulce Secreto.

Chill place. When I went it was only me, one other guy, and the girls who work there. The music is too damn loud as with most places there. And they do have wifi.

Some mongers claim to have local "intel" or "sources on the street", even "my eyes and ears on the street", as the source for a lot of the rumours, LOL.

I know people who work legit there, run hotels and bars there, are putas there, pro, semi pro.

When I'd hear a rumour, I'd raise the subject with them to try and get a jump on what's really happening. The latest bar closing? a deportation?

They'd generally wave me off, with a "who knows, who cares", "so what else is new" attitude, roll their eyes and act as if it's all beyond their control, not their problem and they just want to get on with their day. They have actual life to deal with, and they accept what comes, one day at a time. They are on autopilot prepared for anything, at least in Sosua.

The only place where heated discussions of rumors take place is at the tables of the mongers, and here on this board. LOL.

Other things that can disqualify you:

    Felony drug convictions.

    Certain other drug convictions.

    Child support cases.

    Unpaid federal loans.

Being a minor who does not have parental consent to obtain a passport.
LMAO, they are not fucking around with them student loans! You cannot even get them bytches discharged in a bankruptcy filing!

The washrooms are clean (you may have to do your business while the chica is mopping the floor in the next stall Lol)

I can more or less pick my room location once I get there, and we get extra special service in the restaurants from Francesco and Fabia.

Oh yeah, then there's that sweet deal!

When was the last time you saw it?
    Thanks, Oakie (and Frannie).

My information is clearly out of date and I was out of order posting it without checking further. Apologies to all here and to the new management at Casa Marina. Based on Oakie's update it does become another option for Jjbee.
