Posts: 606It's been a while but where's the action nowadays.
Last time I was there was like 6 years ago.
Quick question.
Is classicos still a hot spot on weekends.
Where's the night time action?
Thinking about a quick weekend so price watching won't be my thing.

Posts: 239Wow. No comments from Super Bowl Weekend
Nothing here but bus advice and hotel tips after Super Bowl Weekend? There were lots of girls but I do have to say that the median rating on the girls did seem way down from last year. Mind you I haven't pulled one off the street yet this year so I might not have been scanning the herd all that closely.

Posts: 107Just rebooked my stay at Casa Valeria directly with the hotel and saved a few dollars on the booking based on what my reservation on Agoda was going to cost. They also had private transfer from STI to the hotel for $81. I went ahead and booked the taxi to save the hassle.
The only downside booking direct with the hotel was a 10% deposit that is 100% refundable if reservation cancelled before 30 days prior to checkin. Within the 30 day period, less and less is refundable. With Agoda you could cancel with a full refund up to the day before checkin.

Posts: 271The staff at Garant will get a cab for you in less than 10 minutes.
Taxi cost appx $25 from Garant to Metro Station in Santo Domingo.
Both Metro and Caribe are very reliable. My only complaint is that there's no overhead storage area inside the bus for your luggage.
Your suitcase must be stored underneath the bus.

There were several hanging around helping people get their luggage out of the bus. They try to pressure you to get in their taxi so be on guard. I think a couple of years ago the taxi to Boca Chica was around 1000 pesos ask before agreeing to anything.
It looks like the buses are arriving in a timely manor at the Caribe Tours station so the detour around the bridge is not a great problem. The biggest problem was when on of those big trucks broke down and shut down traffic for quite a while.

Metro and Carribe are very similar so take whichever suits your schedule better. In Sosua, the Carribe Station is by Charimicos at the other end of the beach where you probably aren't staying. Metro drops off right across from Playero supermarket and you could walk to any of the "downtown" hotels / bars from there if you wanted. Easy enough to get a Moto or taxi from either so it hardly matters.

I usually go to Costa Rica or Panama City but decided to return to the DR as I had some Air Canada miles to use before the endo of March. Flying into Santiago and returning from Santo Domingo as the flight availability, schedule and cost into POP was horrible.
A few questions:
(1) How much trouble will I have finding an Uber in Santiago to go to my hotel in Sosua. I should be through immigration about 2 pm if all goes well. I have read about taking the bus but it seems like a lot of hassle and time cabbing to the station and then catching the bus. I would rather bite the bullet and just pay the extra dollars for the Uber or worst case a taxi.
(2) I booked at the Hotel Garant and Suites in Boca Chica. I stayed before at the Frio Hot and frankly wasn't thrilled with it. Anyone have any feedback. I do realize it is a block or so off the main drag but I don't plan on being out too late.
(3) I am going to take the bus to Santo Domingo from Sosua. I see two options. Metro and Caribe. Anyone have any feedback on which might be better as far as comfort, convenience, proximity to downtown Sosua or Boca Chica, etc.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Does a domestic exchange spot offering 51.1 Dom pesos to USD beat what you actually get after fees if you wait until in DR?

Posts: 271The New Garden security is good plus the location is excellent.
My biggest complaint about New Garden is the noise level being generated from the morning breakfast crowd, motor conchos and the Little League baseball field spectators.
