Unlike you, I have no fixed party in the DR but the whole island is a great play ground. That said, there is certainly something to be said for people you have built a relationship with and who like the idea of seeing you again and the sex is typically way superior. This stands in sharp contrast to the Sosua overnight pick ups.
Personally, and I have stated this unabashedly over my time here, I have loved Sosua (and the DR) since my first trip and though I have not picked up anyone from the bars in the last several years, and so do not care about the bars at all, I enjoy the place, the food in particular and the "let your hair down, all women are approachable" ambiance.

Also here is a report about the crackdown:
Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. -Justice minister Francisco Dominguez on Tuesday said his prosecutors and other authorities decidedly confront the prostitution affecting the North Coast, especially Sosua township.
He said the authorities have a new strategy to deal with prostitution involving Dominicans and foreigners in Sosúa, in coordination with the Tourism and Interior and Police ministries.
Dominguez said over several months Sosúa business leaders and representatives from social organizations have expressed concern about the increasing presence of sex workers on the streets of the town, so much so that it has affected family tourism in the entire North Coast.
The official said several businesses have shuttered in Sosúa during his tenure but acknowledged that this practice remains latent in the streets, despite the efforts.

I agree that this is not anything to get agitated about. As has been commented, it does not take much to cultivate contacts and not rely solely on the strip.
I've actually quite enjoyed previous instances, and there of been many, of "crackdowns" which tend to fizzle out because it tilts the market in my favor.
My only concern is the rumor reported by Mr. Gogo, whom I know and trust, that monger phones will be checked, which would be crossing a line that has never, to my knowledge, been crossed before.
I just returned from an awesome 3 week trip and do not intend to let this affect future plans.
PS: Damn, just saw Racshack's post about 200 arrests........ not seen that scale of crackdown either, However, since prostitution is legal, it should not affect my ability to call a chica to my hotel room, right?

This is a link that appears to be a report of this incident, but the report is undated.

Rumbas has been closed the last two nights, as others reported, and the girls can't stand out on the street. Previously there would be about 50 girls lining the sidewalks all night long. Classicos disco was full last night, and downstairs was pretty full. A couple of the girls I know went to Cabarete, but others stayed in Sosua and they said they had no trouble from the police to go into a bar. Classicos did seem to have a lot more guys last night (Saturday), and the girls wanted more. (one home-looking one demanded 200 US, WTF? I pulled a cutie for 1500, though, with no complaints. This morning two phone / whatsapp girls I contacted for afternoon sessions turned down 1500, wanting 3000. Maybe there is the weekend bump in prices.

I think that is why those of us who have been around Sosua over the years, or lived in the area, get rather critical of people who show up and instantly denounce the place and say that they are on the next flight out, and feel deceived by the good reports of Sosua that they have read online and give simplistic reasons like "all the women I saw were fat" without really revealing anything more about why they traveled to Sosua, what they expected to find, how much effort they made to locate non-fat women, and so on.
The other elephant in the room that is rarely discussed here is how attractive to women those potential mongers were in the first place. The truth is that if you were were reasonably successful as an amateur, you will probably have more success with pros, but if you were a complete failure in your amateur career, there might be something about you that is unattractive to women.
Having said that, I will also say that mongering is something that quickly gets old after a few trips, and that one has to move on and branch out, as Oakie says. Quite frankly I personally do not find the vast majority of women hanging out in Sosua attractive, but I have never found it hard to find one or two that I would like to get to know better--and really that is all you need.

Buses from Puerto Plata to Santiago are indeed cheap. Your only expense will be getting from BB to the POP bus station. The cabbies in Costambar are notorious price gougers.
Not sure what your arrival transportation is, but if a cabbie sent by BB, ask about the fare from BB to the POP bus station.
The process will be repeated in Santiago, so allow plenty of travel time for your appointments. The Caribe Tours bus schedules are available online.
It will probably take several days to get bored with easily accessible sex with a variety of women, but it will happen eventually. There is a small beach in Costambar, just 5 minutes walk from BB. Very quiet during the week, good place to rent a lounger, buy a beer, smoke a cigar in the shade, and watch the sea. You can split cab fare with your buddy to go to Puerto Plata. The Malecon, or seaside promenade is nothing special, but on the west side, there is a reconstructed Spanish fort from about the 16th century. There is often a local guide there, for just a dollar or two. At the hotel, ask about some of the activities available in cooperation with other ventures. Ask about the cable car just outside Puerto Plata. On some of these trips, consider inviting one of the girls whose company you particularly enjoy, to accompany you as your guide. Makes things easier sometimes, since they know the ropes, etc.
Oh, and since you seem to be totally new to this, the best place to change dollars is at Jenny's the small grocery just inside the gates of Costambar. As your cab enters, it will be on your right. Can't miss it. The pharmacy across the street sells the Dominican version of Cialis, called La Pela at very low prices.
