Here's my issue, though. And I know I'm leaving myself open to flaming, but I've never been in such a "high-volume" environment, and I definitely have no experience with the hustle and slick negotiation with this kind of chicks.

So I'm not asking for a complete education here, you veterans have no time for that. But how about a word or two of advice for me, huh? Where's the best place to go for a novice? Where should I certainly *NOT* go? I'd really rather not get robbed or my throat slit.

IMHO, it does not matter where you go. Learn some Spanish, relax, take your time, and develop some rapport with the girl. As with anything, proceed only if you feel comfortable. If you get bad vibes, let it go.

I have travelled to several countries alone and utilize this. It has saved me.

Sosua's regular bar closing times have been changed to 3AM weekdays and 4AM weekends so the semi-monopoly of After One (and it'd reason to exist) was lost.

What else is new in Sosusa, I have seen places open and than close or have little to no business any more. The only places I have seen last in Sosua is Classicos, Rockys, and La Passions and the rest have falied. After One didnt even make it a year before it closed.

I guess the italian guy who owns After One did not want to compete with club x, which I have read stays open past the curfew. Before they opened After One, I used to head over to the disco in the Playa Chiquita Casino, when Classicos closed for the night. I guess the late night (after curfew time) places in Sosua are Club X and the disco in Playa Chiquita Casino.

I'm headed for POP and Sosua next week to scuba dive and get out of the cold for a few days. And while I'm not going specifically to pay for booty, I'm open to sampling what the town has to offer.

What if you are in POP and the girl you are looking at is in Santo Domingo? You have no way of knowing which of these girls are available in your area.

Sosua is small and generally safe. Classicos has chicas starting around 10 p.m., club x is across the street from Classicos, and after Classicos closes there is After One disco about two blocks from Classicos. After you walk around a bit and drink a few beers in different places you will basically know the scene. There are some pleasant, honest working girls there. As other members have stated stay away from the pushy tigresas.

Not sure what hotel you will be using and whether your hotel is chica friendly. If your hotel is not chica friendly, then there are places you can use, like calypso hotel. I have been out drinking in sosua until 6 a.m. and never had any bad problems. Beware of pickpockets. I usually don't get chummy with the motoconcho drivers, there used to be chubby motoconcho driver who used to yell and stop everytime he saw me, trying to sell drugs.

Passions Massage is ok, assortment of chicas, you can sit there and drink beers and watch the girls, or do a massage with one of the girls. Snorkeling around the Sosua Bay Hotel and Victorian House is not bad. There are a few places on Sosua Beach where snorkeling is good. Even experienced mongered sometimes choose a bad chica, but generally most of the chicas there are O.K. If you know a little spanish that is helpful. If your spanish is non-existent, then try to confirm the price with the chica before you exit with her. Have her write it down on a piece of paper. You can usually find someone to help with translation. Most of the time I pay the chica afterward, some chicas demand payment up front, that to me is usually a bad sign.

The chicas will ask for from 2000 to 3000 pesos (which is like 60 to 90 dollars). Just anout everything in the Dominican Republic is negotiable.

...But how about a word or two of advice for me, huh?

1) If you don’t speak the language, make sure the girl understands you pay after the service is rendered. Stand your ground always as there are lots of fish in the seas.
2) Make sure the girl understands beforehand if you insist on any bearback oral service.
3) Make sure before any price negotiations the girl understands you will be visiting for a long time. The light in her head will click on that there might be more dates after this initial one so she may you over you extra good, but never insinuate this to her.
4) By a phone for $25 at the large Playero market off the main hwy so that you can contact the girls you liked at a different time. You will need your passport to get registered for the phone. Get a fluent Spanish speaker to help you with this if you must. The phones can be switched back over to English language via the menu.
5) Day or night always know everybody that is around you for your own safety.
6) Never carry more money or documents with you that you don’t have to have while on the street or away from the hotel. Keep those locked up in your rooms hotel lockbox safe.
7) *Ask other gringo mongers while at the bar which girls to avoid or to go after.
8) Smiles go a long way and show then show respect with your eyes. Go out of your way to be non-confrontational if things start to feel sour.
9) There is lot of debate where to change your money. I still stand my ground that the local bank teller machines give the most competitive rates. They function in English. The guys changing money on the streets may pull a fast one on the real green tourists.
10) Bring your own condoms and sexual supplies.
11) Bring small gifts for the special girls.
12) Never get in a cab until after the driver gives you a price. Ask the hotel what the taxi price should be first. Write the number on a piece of paper with the location. I like to undercut the hotel recommended price by 10% then overpay by 10% to cover the tip.
13) Never take a taxi that is in front of any tourist area. Walk away to quieter busy areas.
14) Don’t walk around looking like you have money or valuables on you.
