I have heard that the trip from Santiago to Sosua go through mountains. How about is the trip from Santo Domingo to Sosua then? Do you still.

Have to go through the same mountains?

Can someone also recommend me a taxi driver in Sosua. I speak almost no Spanish.
I recommend http://www.yellowcabdr.com. They will send a Spanish speaking driver or a girl who speaks Spanish along with the driver. Cost is $100 U$ dollars. You can even pay using Paypal. They will be at the airport holding your name plate when you arrive. From Santiago the trip in a Cab is about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Santiago is about 75 miles from Sosua. Santo Domingo is a lot further.

Yes you will be going through the country side. Two way to get there. I believe they mainly use Hwy 5, which will take you through Miamon and Puerto Plata before Sosua. The opposite way is through Mao & Cabarete. Enjoy your trip.

Carib tours is 150 pesos cab ride from metro. Carib tours leave every hour at the top of the hour and is the same 380 pesos to ride to Sosua. From the Carib tours station in Charmicos outside of Sosua the cab care is 150-200 pesos. The metro stops at the top of the hill by the highway.

Take a jacket because the bus us very cold. Also try to catch one of the early buses and get there early. The 4 pm from SD to Sosua on metro sells out quick. One time it sold out on me and I had to hop a cab over to Carib tours. Also SD traffic can be hell.
    Very helpful post, Mr Gogo.

Unclear post. Are you keen to experience the mountains for scenic reasons or keen to avoid them for safety reasons?

Either way, nothing to get excited about. They are not really mountains, just hill country. Evidently you are not renting an auto so you can let the bus or taxi driver worrry about the mountains. There is one possible route from Santiago to Sosua via Yasica which does go through the hills and is quite scenic but it can be quite a tricky drive in or after bad weather. If you want to avoid that, tell your driver to take the main highway via Navarrete and Imbert. This is the road the buses use.

Coming from SD there is a new toll road which only uses the flatlands. It is a much longer trip.

I'll be back in Sosua in December of this year. I visited Sosua in December 2013 and May 2014, and both times I stayed at the Sea Breeze hotels. The first time was at the recommendation of Cuba Dave. However, I found that I liked the friendly tourist groups that congregate at Sea Breeze. Also, the hotel staff has done right be me on both visits. The fixtures are old and the cleaning crew could do a better job, but once I'm liquored up it matters less to me; I stay liquored up for most of my time in Sosua. Frankly, I spend very little time in my room.

Sea Breeze is 40 USD / night. It has a decent bar with pleasant staff. I know the owner and the long time bartenders, and it's very familiar to me at this point. When I look around, I find very few hotels at the same price point w / equal amenities. For better amenities it appears that I need to spend 60 USD-80 USD per night.

What's the consensus out there? Is there a hidden jewel out there that I'm missing with cleaner rooms and friendlier staff, for 40 USD / night?
Here we are again with the College dorm room hotel. I think SB is a rip off compared to Europa. I did SB back to back in June and July. I have stayed Don A, Casa Angela 1 &2. NG, and placed my friends in different hotels in the area. I like the location to the strip, however, I wouldn't give SB $25 to stay there again.

The Dominicano is king to her and to not interact with him would be selling out her culture in her mind.

Now take the Asians; they have loyalty to culture but are also allowed to think outside the box if presented with an opportunity to better themselves. They are also more traditional and understand that a wife has to be loyal, cook, and take care of her household first with her foreign husband. She won't risk a good thing to be loyal to her culture. Why do Fillipinas come to America with there foreign husbands and have strong relationships as they relocate but the Dominicana can't?..
Really like what you said and agree! Was in DR and have a GF there now. She has a big thing for trying to get me to be Dominican. I've been to Colombia a few times and have two friends how married through cupido. Both are still married and doing well, but they also have a good job and are great guys. But if their finances take a dive, I can see maybe a change happen slowly.

You're right to a degree, but once fed and watered, she is still a woman, and you would have to have to devote a good part of your time to keeping HER happy, if you want to have any life with her at all.

Which is the direct opposite of what most mongers want.

I think I have gotten close to it. We've been through all sorts of life and death experiences topgether, all over the island with family and friends, so that when we're together anywhere, we are in sync. In a crowd of friends, family (her family and mine, we've done it all) or strangers, one look or raised eyebrow or a half smile says it all.

    We don't need to talk.

If we got together permanently, I would feel responsible for keeping that smile on her face, but at my age I need to be a little selfish.

I don't think you will find a consensus here. I heard too many bad things about the the hotel, but I will admit, I have never stayed there myself.

The only two hotels I've used was the New Garden and as the last 4-5 trips, Casa Cayena. NG got to noisy for my taste. CC is off the main street and is quiet.

If you stay at the SB, please write about the place so others will know.

It's all about your comfort level. Cracked tiles in the bathroom, poor wi fi, or not enough hot water can be very upsetting to some (read the reviews), but when you walk out of that airport into the summer breeze, you need to know that you'll be comfortable there, with the stuff and people around you that you canrelax with.

When you get bored, tired of fucking, whatever, you can walk up the street and check out the other places for next time.

    That's how it works.

Think of hotels like chicas. We all have our favorites, but seldom agree on one.

Look around here and you'll see lots of recommendations.

Then explain why Dominicanas have problems adjusting to other cultures? Explain why they some say " I hate Dominican dudes because they beat us up and impregnate us, cheat on us and take what money we have", then turn around and have more babies by them? Explain how a Dominican mother cooks three meals for her grown son living at home that doesn't work and doesn't take care of his six kids? Explain how a Chica can fuck tourists for money and give the money to her Dominican boyfriend? If you can't understand this is loyalty, you just don't want to believe what is obvious.

If these girls were the independent thinkers that you betray, guys would be snatching them up to be perfect wives. Again, they are brainwashed by the culture.

    Not sure

I have not seen the dominicano loyalty you speak of. Poverty trumps all that stuff. Dominican men impregnate and skate. The option of not being tired and hungry is a no brainer.
