I like Bailey's for certain foods. That goes for a lot of restaurants in Sosua. Everyone has their favorites for whatever reason and there are a lot of them to choose from. Explore and make your own conclusions.

Baileys IMHO is overrated. Only thing I liked there is eggs Benedict.
That would be Sinatra's, on Pedro, on your left before you turn down to the beach. Lots of flags!

Steve has specials on lobster and steak, 2 for 1 price Wednesdays and Saturdays. Decent food, decent price, but much better service than Baileys. He's from my home town in the U. K.

At night he sings, too! Lol

You are right! I visited that spot. Up the hill on the other side of the traffic light, a few years back, for a couple of times. The fish has no taste and I found out why. Most fishes, cotorra (or parrot fish) and Tilapia are frozen stiff in the freezer, who knows from which year.

I am told there is a place beyond cabarete, where they have a fish tank and live fish to serve but I have never been there. May be next time, but it is far. In the meantime, it is good to know the beachside Sosua places that you listed, I presume all of them have fish?

    Thanks.

The small bars that catered to europeans seemed to be doing much better. Ehnvees location and facilities work. IMHO the mayor has it right.

We can coexist. I loved classicos but it was hurting the towns image.

I was at super pola yesterday and witnessed a mother with 2 small children trying avoid a pro doing the walk of shame in black see threw spandex. I feel bad for business owners who were shut down but their time has run its course. A portion of sosua could not enjoy thier town due to the large numbers that flooded the streets. The current venues are fine. I think everyone is benefiting except the closed clubs but I can live with that.
Have you tried going to Ahnvee Resort Hotel? It's pretty good too.

On the way to the beach? Coming from where? I can think of 4 paths that are on the way to Sosua beach. Walking past Baileys make a quick left at the little park, you run into Sinatras which is on the way to the beach. Then you have Pedro Clisante a main street, and there are several restaurants there. One closed briefly because the owner died. It was called Brittania, I think it had British Flags. Now it's owned by Mateo from Midtown Restaurant. Not sure if any flags are still there. There is Jolly Rogers, but don't recall if they have British Flags outside. Thats funny you recall the flags but don't recall the name of the place, or the name of the street you ate at. BTW when were you there last?

Unfortunately for me, the taste of their cooked fish does not appeal to my taste. I feel the same way about going to Maimon for fish. The fish they have indeed has great prices. But in my opinion and experience they don't taste the same cooked, like several restaurants I go to on Sosua beach. And for me, I'd rather pay 600 pesos for a meal I'm enjoying fully, rather than saving 200 pesos, but missing the flavor I like.

Also, I tend to like the option of having yellow rice (with beans if you want it) they serve with the fish on the beach. Whereas that restaurant across from CT I believe only serves white rice. With beans if you want it. I also like the garlic sauce I get from some of the kitchens on the beach. And the steamed veggies are available. Not just salad.

My favorites on the beach are Aris Restaurant #67, Mofongo King #74, Jorge Mayra Rest #64 , Fast Freddies #164 Bear in mind. Jorge / Mayra, Mofongo King, and Fast Freddies have their own kitchens. Whereas Aris, Joselito's Restaurants and a few others, share a kitchen that is located in the alley behind Aris Restaurant.

I haven't had that problem but you never know and it's always good to check. They have another fresh fresh outlet in Cabarete and I've had good service there the couple of times I've gone. Another place worth checking in Cabarete is Mojito bar on the beach.

Examples of the seafood you had, and the price? I learned a lesson at Baileys about their fried chicken wings. They are the worst wings on the planet. They taste like they were boiled in hard water, then fried. Look great on the plate. But no flavor and no taste. No sauce in the world will make them wings taste good. But that's just my experience over the years.

Fresh Fresh on the main road, food is good and tasty. Only problem I had, is 3 attempts by one not to give me back my correct change. Two different occasions I paid my bill with a 2000 peso bill. I get my change back minus a 1000 peso bill. And I swear that was no mistake, it was intentional. The 3rd time, I order a beverage (were sitting in the courtyard area) , pay the chick, and she doesn't bring me any change. I wait and wait, to see how long its going to take for her to bring change. Never comes. So I finally get up to call her over because she isn't trying to come anywhere near us.

I say, did you forget to bring me my change? Then she jumps to it immediately. Chick didn't forget. They can act like they are busy, or act like your change was a tip. Some locals at restaurants don't expect some foreigners to count their change for accuracy. They see us used to being engaged eating and talking, not always paying attention to our change when it comes back. Sometimes forgetting it entirely.

Anything they do to shortchange you, they can just act like it was an honest mistake. The sincere act is very phony. They are willing to take that risk. It's a common practice. Always check your change, they can shortchange you 20 pesos to up to 1000 pesos. Every little bit they hustle supplements their pockets / purses. It aint theft to them. It's just business. If you don't check your change, the loss is on you.

A shout out to Mr Flip Flop bar / restaurant too

I was there a few times in the past week, and even there I noticed the diversity. Haitians and Dominicans working together. A decent but not perfect wait staff. I do think the staff gets a little more in house training than what is common. A diverse crowd patronizes Mr Flip Flop on the regular. Food and service is good. Nobody there is disgusted by who is sitting next to them. Unless they are rooting for an opposing team. LOL. Again, Mr Flip Flop is a great host (like Sherman at The Tree House) that makes sure his customers are taken care of.

Some people take what Sosua has to offer for granted. But can you imagine spending all your time at resort being treated like cattle? Having to go to their restaurants on a schedule. Whereas in Sosua you can wine and dine all over the town and vicinity, or even buy your own groceries and cook your food.

    Chicas are filling up Sosua

Super Bowl Week is almost here. I see a lot more non regulars (Chicas) in town this last week. Many at the beach and Ahnvee. Many chicas seen in packs walking in the vicinity of the strip. Usually looking for stray clients, and making their way to the rooming houses and hotels they are set up at. I expect there will be more showing up in the coming days and week leading up to SBW.

Now for the bad news. In spite of the chica invasion, there is an invasion of mongers as well. Groups of guys. Quite a few guys look like it's their 1st time or they have been to Sosua a couple of times. Then as what was pointed out. I do notice a lot more Europeans in Sosua on vacation. At Ahnvee there is a blend of patrons enjoying the scene.

I do tend to notice that the downtown strip area from Sinatras to Chez Montreal is looking more European now, with some exceptions. Even with pay for play on the strip, you see more couples where the client is white, than you do with any others. Black guys you see out and about tend to dine more at mixed crowd places like-Flip Flop, Terra Linda, Baileys, New Garden, Kings (new location), Sinatras, Ramonas at Europa, and definitely on the beach.

I strongly believe that some of the restaurants on the strip (that have mostly European customers) prefer certain patrons not come. They'll be served, but I believe some patrons don't welcome their presence.

I like the ambiance at The Tree House #112 bar/restaurant on the beach. It can be a mixed crowd one moment, or black or white and locals separately. Either way everyone enjoys it there. Good music ( sometimes adjusted for the crowd ) , good food. A decent but not perfect wait staff. ( hard to find excellence in the DR when it comes to customer service ). Even with the wait staff there is diversity. Haitians and Dominicans working together. The owner a great host aimed to please his customers.

    Agree to a point

First and foremost. The closures were not legal. These people have invested a lot of money in those businesses. They can't just shut them down like that. Prostitution isn't even illegal there bruh.

Secondly, the Europeans do the same thing everyone else does. Bar central, the German bar, city lights, these were full of Europeans chasing chicas, mainly Haitian chicas.

I agree that everyone needs to be discreet and respectful. Mainly discreet, and stop the YouTube videos.

But again, I enjoy downtown, with or without merengue. I DO NOT want to create a situation where Europeans feel downtown is there's and we should be at ahnvee. We have as much money as them, and we also enjoy a quiet dinner and a glass of wine. They do the same thing we do. Let's not start the "apart" stuff. Peace.
