Pica Flora is indeed closed according to a brother I know on the scene. Don't know when it closed I never went there. But as I stated in my last post the goal is to minimize to the tiddle the current scene. A change is a comin'. Will it last? Your guess is as good as mine. I never envisioned a world without Help Discoteca. Now this!

Throw in beautiful weather and dining at affordable, high-quality restaurants that would easily cost a small fortune in the United States and Europe, and you'll be eager to book hotel and airfare to GDL.

Heheheheh, true! I visited Rio de Janeiro in mid-2015 but didn't monger. My Brazil visa is still valid for a few more years so I definitely need a return trip to that country sooner rather than later.

My record of experiences in Sosua is that 100% of the Haitians I have been with have given me good service. With Dominicans it is far lower.

Thanks, TTM, you and I always have the most pleasant interaction whenever our paths cross on ISG.

I was in Sosua for a week in April 2015. It was before I knew ISG existed and therefore I don't have a trip report posted on my experience in Sosua here on ISG. And my experience is why I keep an eye on this forum and weigh in every once in a while.

I have an unwritten rule that states I won't visit the same place twice because there is simply too much of the world to see and too little time to see it. But I broke that rule when I made a return trip to Guadalajara last year (strictly a mongering trip) and I can see myself breaking it again for Sosua. I think what I would do is fly into Santiago (like I did previously), spend two or three days there seeing the sights, then grab a taxi to Sosua and spend the remainder of my time in the DR there, say like Thursday through Monday. Or, instead of Santiago, I could do Puerto Plata for a couple of days and then finish up in Sosua (the teleferico in Puerto Plata looks interesting, as does the old San Felipe fort). I have a pretty full travel schedule for the rest of this year into early 2019, but maybe I'll have time around mid-2019.

True story: I actually ate at Picaflor when it was a newly-opened restaurant run by a guy from Belgium. Now, apparently it's a mongering spot run by a guy named Elvis. The only constant thing in life is change.

I figured out why the sneaky mfs put it into the ticket now. It is because they doubled it! Roundtrip taxes from USA to DR used to be $91 plus the $10 tourist card for $101. Now the taxes are $111.

Something else is out of place Mr. E because I assure you that they did not double the price of the tourist stamp.

They didn't do away with it, it is included in the price of your airline ticket. If you look at the breakdown in the fees and taxes you will see the $10.00 charge, it won't be obvious, I know on an AA ticket the charge is listed as "L8".
