Trying to get the best deal for rooms on my trip. I have time sheduled at Sosua suite but I was thinking New Garden could be an option. I have two wingmen with me. New garden includes breakfast. My budget is very tight this trip. Every thing helps.

I understood what you meant. Not being a "chump" reduces your chances of being scammed, but certainly doesn't make you immune.

IMO this is another good reason not to overpay. Overpaying and throwing your money around in general increases your chances of being a target of a scam. Of course in theory if you go to Passions or CMP, you are overpaying, but you get some security in return.

Boy I'll probably get blasted for this one! However. It seems to me that one way to avoid being a victim of these scams is to pay a little more and get girls from the club. Sosua has Passions and CMP. After 10 at Passions you can get a girl for the night for 3500rd, thats about $87. Expensive by Dr standards, but not bad for a tourist. Everytime I hear about someone getting in trouble it involves a freelance puta. Not a club girl or a non pro. Just my 2 cents.

Better yet, try them out first on-premise at Passions or CMP. If you have a repoire with them and they perform well, then take them for the night. You not only won't get scammed, but you won't waste a night with a weak performer either. Just walking into CMP or Passions and taking a chica out for the night IMO is risky. Not for getting robbed, but for wasting a night with a dud. It costs 2500 DP (about $61. 50) to "sample" them at the establishment.

He will be your friend, promise you the world, and what I learned- Lie, Cheat Steal. Stay away from him. He lives in Purta Plata, and comes to Sousa to look for those white guys traveling alone. He stole money from me, and I will get even. This trip, next trip or the trip after.

This is very unfortunate but, it makes me think of a golden rule. Did you come to Sosua to make friends with some dude or did you come out there to get your balls licked. In other words, there is no need to make friends with any guys in Sosua anyways. There are no special perks that you will get out of befriending them. Most of the girls can lend any help that you need and you can fuck them.

Arrived in Sosua today to find Happy Bar closed. What happened? The bar has been open since at least 2006 with largely the same personnel. I am curious to know what caused it to close.

Being a "chump" and "poor judgement" were not contributing factors in the incidents I am personally familiar with. I'm revealing this "dirty little secret" to create some awareness so that if by chance someone here gets snagged in this stuff, they can be prepared. Maybe less than 1% are affected, and less than 1 in 10 will report it doesn't mean it's not happening and very personal to those it happens. Calling people that have gotten targeted by these scams names, or judging their behavior without even knowing them is not useful or beneficial advice.

FYI: The $3500 that they paid to "get the guy out" or "drop charges" won't be given back, it is Civil Court where this stuff takes place. In addition, some of you are confusing a 3500 peso fee to a chica with $3500 USA Dollars paid to the Fiscal Court.

This is the most interesting part of your post. I don't think many of us need warning never to trust a Dominican, especially one you meet in Sosua. But if you can teach us how to get even without dropping ourselves in the shit, then you might win some friends.

A lot of these situations occur because of poor judgement.

Women will happily take advantage of any weakness shown so be decisive and clear about the price, what you want and what's expected of her.

Be alert, use common sense and stay away from any shady or unruly chicas.

Personally I only go TLN if I have a good rapport with the chica or I'm taking her out from Passions

I have never had a major problem. If you vet your girls a little you should have no issues. I think there is to much parnoia over scams / Guys are scared of there shadows. Follow a few rule and you will have a great time. For 3500 I can have 3 girls or very close. If you can make the girl relaxed you will get a good performance. Learn a little Spanish and few few dance steps and she is your date note your puta for 2 hours. It works for me, I make them feel like they can come back and it will be fun to return. If you want a stick run they will treat that way. You bust your nut they put panties on. I have an after sex conversation and laugh a bit. Having a good relationship can lead to some benefits later. An unexpected real 3 some or just some to chatting later. It is what you make it. I am having fun and I like the girls I sleep with to enjoy the experience. some may slam you, but this is good advice, however when it comes to the "trade craft" of the monger, it does fly in the face of the basic idea of "mongering".

places like blackbeards, which are rare, control that environment and there is accountablity of the women involved in p4p. the temptation to venture out is too great for the masses, and the low low percentage of guys getting netted in this trap will not affect p4p in numbers. it's just the few that end up coiled into the scheme that pay up and then never go back. the problem here is that this scam is becoming perfected and used much more frequently in the d. r. and the officials that should do something about these "false arrests" won't do anything about it.

keep in mind, this is a template and does not just apply to accusations of abuse, but includes fake car accidents and other such methods of being able to arrest and detain a gringo. it begins wth an "incident", moves to an attorney, the attorney determines the value of the scheme and whether they will recover enough money to pay for the national police to go and arrest them, they then draw up paperwork (enough to convince the fiscal that an arrest is necessary) , and then they grab the gringo "ambush" style. he then is run through a battery of procedures, told he's in big trouble, placed in a jail with a mix of crazy, violent, naked, overdosed criminals in a cell that were it a kennel in a civilized world would be considered animal abuse because of the conditions. the smell and the heat alone causes one to consder whether he will leave alive. then, if the "officers" don't confirep001e everything valuable, the "inmates" will, and daring to resist them would certainly result in exaserbating the situation. at the point when you realize you're in jail for an indeterminate amount of hours, days, weeks and even months, you manage to speak to an attorney. that is when they determine just what your threshold is and your ablity for a payoff. there are usually "hearings" where they will ask you more about your job, how you pay for your trips, how much money you have, and how frightened you look, than whether you are guilty or not. guilt in these situations does not matter, their only concern is how much money they can extract from you.

on the other hand, if you have really committed a crime, then good luck.

advice: never become financially important to any of these prostitutes. never hand over your passport for any reason. i know many disagree, but hiring a driver may cost more up front, but the down side of a car rental scam can be exponentially more expensive and happens more than you think. another bit of advice is don't buy real estate in the d. r, i've seen this scam on 2 occasions where men were involved with women and before it was over they had to leave everything they owned and get the hell out of the country.

now, i'm sure i'll be slammed, but the evidence is overwhelming that these things occur regularly. i also don't deny that there are many expats that defy these situations, however what a lot of them won't tell you is that they too have paid the extortion money for these scams and just seal their lips to continue living amongst these thugs.

Postal workers hired before 1984 didn't make social security contributions, so there will still be people retiring from the post office without full SS benefits. I know a postal worker in his 60s retired in Florida who does not receive social security benefits. I was very surprised, but he told me that postal workers got the government pension instead of ss. I think when the system was changed and postal workers had to start paying in to SS, those who were already vested into the existing system were allowed to choose whether to opt into SS, so at the present time there are two tiers of post office retirees.

I don't know specifically about postal workers, but I do know about other Federal retirees and we do have a two-tier system.

The Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) was semi-replaced in 1984 by the Federal Employees Retirement System. I say 'semi-replaced' because those employees who were already working for CS were given an opportunity to choose between the old program and the new one; anyone hired after the FERS was instated, was put into the new system. FERS was a combination of SS and a 'Thrift Savings Plan' (TSP) to which you'd contribute a certain percentage of your salary; CSRS holdouts could put money into the TSP as well, and many of my same-age colleagues did so.

I'm under the CSRS, and my pension is a percentage of my "high-three" salary (the average of the highest-earning three years of my career). Plus annual cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) , same as Social Security. I'm not rich, not for the USA, but I'm comfortable.

That is the standard rate for this ongoing and refined scam: $3500US. First they scare the living shit out of you, ask for 1 million pesos and charge you with all kinds of crazy stuff. I (and they) don't know one gringo monger that can't come up with at least $3500 to $5000 to get out of that POP kennel. They try to hand down charges push the alleged "incident" to a higher level requiring detention (by law I'm told it can be up to 1 year) until they are investigated. The only way out is to either pay up a negotiated "ransom" or get accustomed to jail / prison life in the D. R. Until they decide to let you go. Lesson: Once you're targeted with the scam, do like this man did and get someone to negotiate the payoff and get out of there. This is a planned and well orchestrated event and the girls, the chulo / pimp / etc, and the attorneys are in on the game. Once one has been there, experienced the whole scenario, it's doubtful they will come back. In my opinion as a guess, the monger in question left on his own. The officials in question wouldn't send him home, they want them to stay there in their "system" and each time he wants an answer it costs $1250 more. The guy does them no good if he leaves the country.

As far as avoiding this situation, most of the guys here who haven't been through it will tell you ways you can, but the one'sthat have been victim of the scam will tell you it's just a matter of whether your turn is up. It's happened / happening to nice guys, old guys, young guys, whatever. The scam gets refined with each victory and failure, I liken it to one of those video games that learns your skills and becomes harder and harder to beat the more you play. I for one refuse to return to the D. R. Again.
