    Pre emptive strike?

Has anyone just been upfront with the chicas before you head to the hotel? While you are doing the negociations, just tell her "I am going to pay you 2500 for TLN. But if you leave early with a stupid excuse (Baby sick, friend is in jail, dog ran away. Etc.) then I will only give you 1000 pesos." That way she knows upfront that if she pulls any BS, she will not get the entire amount.

Another technique I would use if a female is causing a scene, get her out of the room and pay her in front of the security guard. Say out loud in front of security "Here is 1000 pesos for your time! Goodbye!" That way she can't go to the police and say that you didn't pay her. I don't think the police will bother you over the amount you pay, just as long as you paid her.

I thought most guys' primary reason for mongering was to avoid the drama you would have with a girlfriend or wife. If you are going to get all these problems and have to go through all these changes is it even worth it? Now I have to have a police/lawyer friend, now I have to feed/tip the security guy, now I have to hide out, now I have to change rooms/hotels. What the fuck B?

There is no such thing as a trusted moto driver. When push comes to shove, they will side with the chica. To think otherwise is naive.

    Trouble with Chicas

I get to my trip the more advise I will ask you for it woul be much appreciated.
I do not know if my advice will help but I will give it a try. Terra Linda originally was trying for a family environment and did not really want the monger crowd. They quickly realized that this was killing their business so they accepted the monger crowd but tended to charge more than other hotels as an attempt to avoid problem mongers. Two brothers own Terra Linda and one of them, for sure, does not really care about helping mongers out of problems. Terra Linda is quite nice, and has a restaurant attached to it (quite overpriced, if you ask me. They should have specials for people who stay at their place). If an owner does not help a monger out just go to another hotel.

I avoid these headaches by only doing short term (unless I really know the chica). As I always say the less time you spend with the chica the less headaches.

Next, I always get to know security. Buy him food, and ask the guard for advice. I'll pass along 20 pesos or so. When shit hits the fan the guard will defend you.

If I was in that situation and on hotel ground I would stall while obtaining advice on how to approach this matter. Have police pretend that you are not there. Prostitution is a domestic issue and almost always the police cannot go onto hotel ground since it is private property! This is why the police always try to trick the tourist into going outside or in front of the hotel, in which case they can arrest the person. Any good owner can easily stop the police from going onto their grounds.

One time I was translating for a monger. Once I left he kicked the chica out without paying her. The chica called the police on me, while I was walking down the street, to try to shake me down for the money. Long story short, the police was harassing me until I got on hotel grounds. They backed away. I later talked to the owner about this and he explained that, legally speaking, the police could not go on their property.

Another occasion my friend wanted a chica for TLN. She stayed less than an hour and cut out. He only paid her for short term. As he returned to the hotel, later on, there were police in front of the place. Long story short he paid alot of money to get himself out of this predicament. When he explained the situation I mentioned that he should have contacted me and could stay at my place for the night. The next day I would have made arrangements for him to stay in my hotel room and I would have stayed in his. Go to his hotel, ask for another room, move his stuff to the other room, and slowly take it to my hotel room (also pay the workers a little something for the headache).

Do not give the chica your real name and do not show her your I'd (this is where being called by a nickname helps). If you have a problem with a chica once she leaves just ask the hotel to change your room. The better hotels will not give out information of the customer who was in the room with the disgruntled chica. I once had a chica and she tried to shake me down for money. It did not work so once I kicked her out she made a scene at the front desk. The owner later talked to me and said that they did not give her, or any outsider, any information on me (the hotel is used to this type of behavior). The owner of the hotel I was staying out happened to be friends with the police commissioner (so the police would not even think of pulling a stunt on the owner).

One of the owners for Terra Linda is good friends with a lawyer who was a former police commissioner of Sosua. For whatever reasons the owners did not hook this guy up with this former police commissioner.

Some of the other advice given to you by the other mongers on this board is quite helpful. I learned something. I need to start carrying a camera with me.

    Good Report

Well guys here is my comprehensive trip report. This trip to the DR was radically different from the disastrous trip I had years ago where I was miserable. I think my experiences in Thailand taught me a lot about what to do and what not to do. The trip was fantastic and the DR is my new stop for all things mongering (and more).

    I. Getting There.

American Airlines, Spirit and other airlines have many daily flights from Miami to both Santo Domingo, Santiago and Puerto Plata. A flight from Miami to Santo Domingo is always around $250 dollars and is only a short two hour flight. With a flight time like that it is barely enough time to watch a movie on your tablet and bam you are there.

I followed the advice of a guy named CubaDave who has several videos on Youtube.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwB1DGuz8B8

I went ahead and spent the extra money (about $250 dollars more) and flew into Puerto Plata. Guys this is the absolute best way to get to Sosua. Don't fly to Santo Domingo and take a 4-5 hour bus; don't fly to Santiago and take a 2 hour bus; fly to Puerto Plata and take a 15 minute taxi ride. The extra money, in my opinion is well spent. It makes things so much easier. The airport at Puerto Plata is under construction in the area where you enter the receiving area after you disembark the airplane. You actually stand outside for a while until you get inside. As soon as you depart don't stand outside in the long line. Go straight inside the building and pay your $10 USD tourist fee. Most of the people standing in the line outside do not realize they need to get that card. Once you get that card you get in line and the lady takes the tourist card you just paid for and glances at your passport. You then go through immigration and you are in Puerto Plata.

Once you exit the airport look to your right and there will be a taxi stand across the small street. The taxis are not like normal taxis. Some of them are minivans and some of them are cars. Just walk up to the guys sitting in front of the taxi stand and tell them where you want to go. If you don't speak Spanish write down the address and simply show it to them. Its $25USD to get to Sosua. Don't * about the price. Just pay it. Its not worth it. Get to the girls! Its only a 15 minute ride and you are in Sosua! I personally was in a nice minivan from the airport to my hotel. It was uneventful and smooth.

    II. Hotel.

I thoroughly enjoyed staying at The Mary Rose suites.

    http://maryrosedr.com/

The Mary Rose suites are owned by the same man who owns Rockys and Sosua suites (Rick). I cannot say enough for Rick and his extra efforts to make my stay fantastic. Mary Suites is a bit off the beaten path so to speak. But I think it being off of the beaten path is the beauty of it. My room had a new 32 inch tv and was very new and clean. They had excellent wifi. There are several rooms at Mary Suites-some are more luxurious than others. There are 2 bedroom suites, an executive suite and more. There are several rooms that have their own private entrance where no one can see you coming and going-perfect for the discreet mongerer. The swimming pool was very clean and well maintained (I think its 11 feet deep) and there is a bar right beside the swimming pool. Every night the owner (Rick) (who also lives there) had a BBQ poolside. The staff was very friendly. He has a young man who seems to be running things and he is professional and friendly. I always tipped the cleaning lady (50 pesos) and she in turn always made sure my room was perfect. The entrance to the hotel is a large black steel door. I was allowed to park my motorbike (I'll get to that) inside every night. It There is a small store a 5 minute walk away. From Pedro Clisante its about a 10 minute motorbike ride and its along a nice wide road. I really enjoyed my stay there and will repeat.

I did consider staying at New Garden which is on the same street as Rockys but declined due to the fact that they were full. I am actually glad I didn't stay there as I think Mary Rose was a better deal.

    III. Logistics.

There is always a debate about where to exchange money. Outside of the street money changers (who you never use) they are all damn near the same. I personally changed my money at a shop on the west end of Pedro Clisante on the south side of the street near Duarte. The storefront is white in color and a few doors down from a barbershop. Exchanged my money (he gave a fair rate) and I was off.

As far as internet is concerned nearly every restaurant and club on Pedro Clisante offers wifi. I brought my phone I used in Thailand and I was going to buy a SIM but decided not to because everyone had wifi and I just used Skype to talk to everyone.

There are places to eat everywhere. If you get the right girl she will show you the cheap hole in the wall places that are inexpensive with good food. One of my girls took me to a place on the corner of Dr Rosen and the highway just a stones throw from the Texaco station. Its open 24 hours and it very inexpensive and very popular. Check it out when you are there. It is a whole and the wall but its good.

I ate most of the time at two places on Pedro Clisante- The Brittania Pub and the restaurant next to it named Resturante Bar. The Resturante Bar has excellent Italian food and the owner always asked if everything was ok. The Britannia Pub had excellent breakfast and I ate there every morning. Both were inexpensive and had great food.

I highly recommend you visit Big D's BBQ stand on Sosua beach. Big D is an African American who opened a BBQ stand on Sosua beach. And its damn good BBQ. He sort of reminds me of a funny Fat Albert. Really nice guy and I had some great BBQ there twice. He also is a good source of info on how and where to do and get things done in Sosua.

After living in Thailand I wanted a motorbike to get around despite the fact that in Sosua you don't need one. I just wanted to be very mobile. I am glad I did. I rented my motorbike for $20 a day from a Italian run shop just down from Rockys (on the same street) named Scooters for rent (809-571-2588). The Italian guy who runs it is very professional and thorough (which I liked). Insurance card, helmet everything. He even saw me once and told me to put my helmet on as the police were around the corner handing out 1000 pesos tickets! The motorbikes are ok-they are a brand called Argo which I have never heard of. It did its job just fine for me and my girl though. And I really got to see Sosua and all around. It was great. There is nothing like a hot chick (I'll get to that) holding onto you tight while you are rolling down the road. And when you find a girl you don't feel like having 20 moto guys staring you and your nightly choice as you tell them where you want to go. You just get on your own bike and leave.

We actually rode the motorbike to an ajoining town called Cabarete. It took us about 30 minutes but it was a fun ride in a very countryside type setting. There weren't many cars on the road to Cabarete. We rode past a horse farm, some really nice resorts and even some ocean views. There is even a massive billboard of a Russian guy who is a realtor LOL (I thought the Russians had taken over only Phuket but it seems like they are in Sosua now also). The beach in Cabarete was lovely. There were really nice restaurants on the beach there. They had a lot of water activities and the beach was much nicer than Sosua. There weren't any of the pesky vendors like you have on Sosua beach. If I had a car I might have stayed in Cabarete and picked up girls in Sosua and brought them back there. I wish I had brought my own helmet and googles with me. When riding to Cabarete you really need to cover your face but that's just me. The helmet provided did not have a visor. If you leave Sosua and ride in the direction of the airport on the main highway you will come upon your first stoplight where the Caribe bus drops people off. Make that right at the light and you will go into a small town where there are small shops (especially clothes).

There is a very large supermarket across the street from the Texaco on the main highway. It is sort of a mini Wal Mart / Tesco Lotus and you can get everything you need there. I frequented it for all of my needs when I was there. FYI-The police station is almost right next to it.

    IV. Finding girls.

If you are an attractive guy you will have NO problem finding girls day or night. I got hit on more times than I was actually looking for a girl. Most of the girls do come out at night however during the day they are all over. You can especially find them shopping and walking around the area south of DR Rosen and Pedro Clisante. In fact they all seem to live on the side streets in these areas. They will make eye contact and will make comments and things go from there. I picked up a girl in the day time who was working in a store but she worked 7 days a week, had no cell phone and a 2 month old baby. Too much trouble to try and hook up with. She was pissed when she saw me with another girl days later LOL.

If you want to find the best girls-they are almost ALL at Rumba and D'Latin. They are next to each other. D'Latin however had multitudes more women than Rumba. D'Latin for me was the place to be for my trip. The girls were prettier and in greater numbersand would seek you out.

    The girls in the small various 'barber shops' and massage parlors are all available in the day and night. The massage place right in front of Rockys is a BJ shop. There is a legitimate barber shop next to it. The girls will approach you as you walk down the street. I never was interested though. There is no comparison in the world to Star of Light in Bangkok &61514;

I never saw any signs of working girls in Cabarete. It seems like a legitimate vacation spot.

I never went to Passions. I rode by it several times (its too far to walk to it from most hotels).

    V. The girls.

The girls at D'Latin and Rumba in the early evening and early night were heavily Haitian. Now most of these girls have great bodies but are unattractive. They try to make up for it by dancing provocatively but it was a no go for me. But when you see an attractive Haitian girl she is definitely attractive. Tall, very dark skin and beautiful faces. I actually think the most beautiful girl I saw during my trip was Haitian. She was with a group of guys. Around 9 the Dominicanas start to show up. There are all types. Lovely, skinny, fat, ugly, overdressed, underdressed. Anything you want is there. I stuck with D'Latin exclusively. In fact my strategy was to simply sit on the rail along the sidewalk so I could see the girls coming and going. That was an awesome strategy as nearly every girl makes eye contact with you as they come in and out and I got approached atleast 20 times this way without me saying a word. Some of the girls walk from one side of the street to the other to get attention. There is one girl who had ridiculously large butt implants. She looks ridiculous but to each his own. The other girls would laugh at her. Some of the girls are absolute pests and won't leave you alone. One girl I had to finally aggressively tell her no after ten minutes of telling her no. Don't forget there is a lot of desperation with these girls to get their next meal. If you have mongered enough you can sense it. Sosua believe it or not has dedicated prostitution police according to every girl I talked to. These guys ride two to a motorbike and wear white shirts. The girls despise them as though prostitution in the DR is legal they randomnly arrest these girls and put them in the jail next to the supermarket on the main road. The girls actually fear them.

The one girl I spent most of my time with- I went to her place. It was amazing how similar these girls live compared to the girls in Thailand. In fact there are alot of comparisons between Thailand and Sosua as it pertains to the girls and their lives. Small cramped rooms, single moms, drug use (and a lot of those girls do use cocaine in Sosua; in Thailand the girls use whats called Ice) and abuse drive these girls to prostitute. Every girl I met had a similar story. And I never had a problem with them lying or stealing. I think this is in part because I will not go with hardened pros, girls that are very aggressive trying to get your business or girls in pairs. I prefer as 'real' of a girl as I can get.

    VI. My girls.

My first girl was sweet. She approached me and wasn't too aggressive and was cute. She was a little plump but I wanted to get my first nut so I took her back to my place and did the deed. Nothing to write home about. She told me all about her life-typical story. Single mom, dad took off, she was from Santo Domingo. I paid her 1500. And before we get into the pricing debate, I don't think there is a hell of a difference between 1500 and 2000 pesos. If your on vacation and you are that stiff with money the girl will sense it and tell other girls and if you frequent Sosua you will get a bad reputation. These girls all know each other-don't forget that.

My second (and last) girl of the trip was a gem. She was 'older'-27 years old. But she was real if you know what I mean. We made eye contact at D'Latin and just talked for a while. We stayed with each other the whole trip. She not only fucked with enthusiasm she really wanted to please me. She made me food a few times, folded my clothes and showed me all around. You see I think after a day or two of mongering you need other things to do. This girl fit the bill. She took me everywhere, negotiated everything from my haircut in Sosua to my motorbike rental to shopping for us at the supermarket. She did a great job. And guys in addition to the sex I told her I wanted frequent BJ's. I got atleast three a day in addition to the sex. We enjoyed the pool and the patio at the Mary Rose and she introduced me to a lot of the other girls who were her friends. I actually spent time at her place with some of her friends and it was a lot of fun. She of course was single mom etc but she saw it is a business and constantly addressed us mongers as clients. She fell in love with me though. It was not a problem but we genuinely had a chemistry. I paid her 2000 pesos a day and she was happy. She never left my side. She made a difference in my trip to Sosua.

    VII. Conclusion.

I think the combination of experiences gained in Thailand, flying to Puerto Plata rather than SD, the right hotel and the right girl made my trip fantastic. I know some guys go for quantity rather than quality but for me the quality girl that can do more for your trip than sex is the perfect find. Spend your time at D'Latin, get a motorbike and don't be cheap and all will be well in paradise.

I'll be going back in a month for more.

    Showdown
Good Report, I just have one disagrement under section IV finding girls. I'm Ugly as hell and I have no problem finding girls day or night. When these chicas look at us they don't see attractive or ugly they just see pesos. LOL.

Did the men get theire 3500 back

Friday night in Sosua a monger (not a vet, but not a newbie either) agreed a price of 2500 pesos for TLN. Took the chica back to Terra Linda for the night. After one pop she pulled the old "leave early" stunt so he would only pay her 1500 pesos for ST. She refused to leave and he threw her out. There was no physical fight as such and she left quietly enough though obviously in a foul mood.

She came back later (early next morning?) with bruises, a cop and a lawyer, and the guy was arrested and taken to a Puerto Plata cell for the night. The security guard who had let her out said she was in good state when she left so presumably the bruises were inflicted by herself or her chulo.

Next day some of the friends he had made on his trips here, plus some very experienced ex-pats, arrived with a lawyer. Eventually they all chipped in to make up US$3500 to get him released and (I think) the charges dropped. The monger left for the US (either because it was his last day anyway or because he was understandably so pissed off with the DR, or because he was now broke, or because it was a condition of his release, I don't know which). I guess he won't be back in a hurry.

I would like to go to sosua for the first time this summer how would I avoid this situation happening to me?

The helmet is stored under the seat of the scooter which locks so you don't have to carry it around.

    2. I gassed up twice but only because I rode it around alot and went to the other beach about 30 minutes away. I think I spent 200 pesos.

    3. It left no smell at all. If anything, when you are riding on the main highway your face will get a little dirty. But no big deal.
Appreciate the info and quick response!

Thanks for the excellent report Showdown. Just had a question about the scooter (I've never rented one before) :

-Where do you park your scooter when you get to the Pedro Clisante (when you are about to go to D'Latin or Rumba Bar)? Did you leave the helmet with with scooter? Or did you have to walk around with it while bar hopping (so it didn't get stolen)?

-How often did you have to gas it up? How much was it to fill up the tank?

-Does it leave a loud gasoline smell on you / your clothes like you get from riding on the back of motos (motochoncho)?

I think the combination of experiences gained in Thailand, flying to Puerto Plata rather than SD, the right hotel and the right girl made my trip fantastic. I know some guys go for quantity rather than quality but for me the quality girl that can do more for your trip than sex is the perfect find. Spend your time at D'Latin, get a motorbike and don't be cheap and all will be well in paradise.

I'll be going back in a month for more.
