I just had to chime in on Rio. Just got back from Nov. Trip.

Yes it has its ups and downs since Help closed, its expensive as hell, Balcony can be a joke, but the termas (4x4, Monte Carlo etc) and the casas would blow your mind. The toto from Copa beach alone makes DR look like a trash can (and I love and always will love Sosua. 50+ trips under my belt and 9 trips to Rio). Put this trip on your bucket list no matter what. I caution you that the depression you will feel upon return to the USA will be substantial. You could arguably go just for the food alone. It is that good.

If all goes as planned this part of the year, I definitely will be in Rio the latter part of it. Already halfway through Pimsleur's Brazilian Portuguese I.

4x4 terma aka quatro por quatro. I usually always arrive on Friday morning and train directly to 4x4 after getting settled. Closed sat and sun, so that Friday always pops.

OldKool, do your thing. DR is great. But know Rio has every shade from darkest chocolate to the lightest vanilla and all in between.

This webcam is invaluable. Hurts while here but tells me from my Rio apt whether the beach is poppin or not (rain or sun). I'll post in Rio section too, as we are sliding off the DR topic.

I will say this about Rio it is where you see a ton of dark skin girls with blue eyes. In the beginning that look although amazing would freak me out at first. There are some stunners but there is so many hot chicks there most of them think they are just average. They come to the states and guys as always would mess there heads up in a heartbeat. I had great time there I just like it so much better when help was around because the chicks came from all over the country to come and party there. I spoke to a taxi driver back in the day and he said the number 1 question when a person got off the plane was where was help. The freelance scene was sick on copacanbana, but not any more. Have to go to the Casa's. Back in the day you would have 10's fighting over you on the beach. It was crazy, but as life is things change and you keep it moving. I have been back and just not the same for me. Although I did change my game and hung out in the largest favela Rochina use to go to the gun party on Sunday nights that was incredible scene with hot chicks everywhere, but you had to be careful and not talk to a drug dealers girl. So, yea rio is okay, but I am glad I did it back in the day so much better.

I was in the DR for around 3 weeks and spent around 4 days in Sosua this time. The Satuday right before Christmas I was going to check into the Club accross from Classicos becasue Classicos was not open at this time. It was around 2am. My wingman and myself heard a few loud bangs and people started running out of the club. Around a few minutes later people carried a dominican guy out of the club and layed him on the floor. He was bleeding everywhere and a few minutes later a police truck came and they picked him up and put him on the truck and took off. Another Dominican guy was wounded in the shoulder. There is no way in hell that this one guy survived. What got to me is that the police did not interview anyone. It could of been an American or a European guy. I remember 9 years ago the REAL SOSUA and how it was. Sosua is not safe anymore and the tourist police are nice but lazy. Some of them are my friends. Remember one thing guys, you are in a third world country. If you look on youtube you can see guns pulled on people in the bars. They also took the chairs out of the streets because of a big fight there 4 months ago and a dominican guy smashed a chair on another guys skull. The chairs are now outside. I like Sosua or the SEWER but it is changing for the worse. Hatians get arrested now for no reason anf the Dominican Women keep says excused to leave early in the morning. I always tell them to shut off the phone and you are leaving at 10am after I wake up late and blow my load. After all, we are paying for a service and there excuses are I need to go to the dentist in the morning, my baby is sick, I owe money for rent, I need to take a bus back to my city early. Of course they do not tell you this till they are in your place. I think Europa is a great hotel for the price. I just think to myself if I was in that club and I was shot how the police handled the matter. They didn't question anyone. I will never stay out past 1am there again I feel. I also assumed like always that they search people for guns. Also, the Sosua Bay Casino has new owners. Do not fall for the Con-Game inside where they give you a free token to play a ball game. It is rigged and then they ask you for money to keep playing, you will never win. I find Santiago is the best place to be to pick up women in the street and offer them 1500 pesos, with a little Spanish it goes a long way. The Car Wash i9s great and so is Illusions and of course passions. For the people trying to save a few bucks. When Passion closes, wait outside the gate and the women are cheaper but you must give the security guy a little tip. You can save between 1000 pesos and 1500 pesos but you must think if it is really worth it because you can be waiting for an hour in the dark in your car.

I just can not see flying and paying that much for a good steak or pussy. I need one or two at a time that meet my standards. Everything else is surplus. I am a poor man and Sosua will suffice as my RIO. Right now I am so happy with the DR I do not want anything better.

OldKool, I hear you man. Rio can be expensive. I'd say what the others have said, just put it on your list. If you can get to it cool but if you can't well DR is nothing to laugh at either. I think the problem for a lot of mongers is financial but it's also their own minds. See so many folks just are not able to conceptualize something better than Sosua. It's def a great place but a lot of guys just have no desire to see beyond it. So the money coupled with the fact that there wasn't much desire to venture out kinda takes Rio off the list. I can't tell you how many guys I've had this Rio Sosua conversation with. It goes the same way each time. The guys that think Sosua has something on Rio are almost ALWAYS the guys who've never been to Rio. Those who've been to both know whats up. They know it's not even a discusssion.

Anyway, enjoy Sosua man. It's a great time. I'll prob make it down there sometime this year as well.

WOW! Man, I've been trying to tell these guys about Rio, but they don't want to listen. Ha! I'm going down in less than 3 weeks and I can't wait! Looking at your pics is just getting me hype. Put Rio on your bucket list, there is NO comparison to Sosua, yes it is a long trip and costs a bundle, but you only live once, and every GDP likes it in the bunda as part of the programma. How many Dominicanas have you popped in the corn-hole, one out of 10?

So please stop comparing Sosua to a place you have NEVER been. The steak in Brazil is better than anything I have ever eaten at The Palm for less than 1/3 of the price, so if you like to eat, you will eat like royalty for 1/3 of the cost of fine dining back home, and hump GDP's like a Prince. 4X4 in Rio make Passions look like a colmado.

I love DR as it is only a short hop from home, but there are other destinations that put it to shame.

I read some reports on the jamaica forum. I never knew there was so much action there. The guys say the talent really works hard. I was wondering if any of my brothers have done both places.

On the few occasions that I have used a taxi from POP to Sosua I have always paid 500 pesos. I just offer that, then buy a pequena and wait. Eventually someone will come over and accept the offer.

Before I was renting cars I would always try that bullshit, but those bastards know how to hold out and wait for someone who will pay the gringo rate. After that heat starts getting to you and you begin to think about those broads then you are just ready to go and will pay it. The rate I would always end up paying was $20 from the airport and $15 to the airport.

I had to pay 1200 pesos from the airport to hotel and 1200 pesos from metro station to airport. (30 $) May be I took the wrong taxi.

I was referring the price I paid for a taxi to santo domingo airport from santo domingo metro bus station.

From porto plata town to sousa I paid 50 pesos with other 5 people that paid 50 pesos each.
